This is a great jam tune and for busking on a street corner. One thing I like to throw in there is a couple of slide variations. Not necessarily every time, but maybe at the beginning and the end. They take place in the first and third measures. After the E downbeat, slide from the C note to the C#, then down again on the C#. Next play a down on the open A, followed by up on the 2nd fret of the A string for the B note. Same thing in the third measure, except play open D, followed by a slide from the C# at the 4th fret on the A string to the D note for two downs, both Ds, with an up stroke on open E string to complete the 4/4 measure. Don't play these every time, but when the notion strikes. Have fun with this tune -- it was one of Doc Watson's favorites.
What is your story with this tune? Are you used to adding variations to the pickup line?
That is a beautiful sounding octave😊

Not necessary to change the 2 note pick up. Down on the A note, up on the F#, followed by the down beat on the E in the next measure.
