A Panoptical Take on Makeup Tutorials

Do you wear makeup? If so this post might not be for you.

If I offend anyone that truly isn't my intention. I am simply trying to combat some of the insecurity, feelings of unworthiness, and body dysmorphia I see in so many of the young girls I work with.

I have gone through phases in my life where I wore a full face every day. Yet, when I really delved down to the bottom of why I felt the need to put my 'face' on, all of the reasons were rooted in patriarchy and the male gaze.
.
So I stopped wearing makeup regularly, and even though I haven't turfed my makeup collection, I wear makeup less than once a year. There are probably, at most, 5 pics/videos of me on my platforms in any makeup, and in general I prefer to be the original me.
.
It's a pretty time consuming process. I'd rather be doing asanas and making flowetry during my morning, and wow is it expensive!!! 🤯😵‍💫

Which brings me to another issue I have with makeup: the makeup industry itself. An industry built by preying on insecurities, that rakes in billions of dollars, is not always kind to animals or the workers in their own companies, and creates more pollution for the planet.
.
Some companies are better than others, but overall I get nauseous thinking about it, and I don't want my money or time to go into supporting it at all
.
As I said, if you really feel like you want to wear makeup for you, that's great. There really is some amazing artistry in what some people are doing out there.
.
But also, embrace who you are naturally. Spend your time nourishing your body and soul, and with people who love you no matter what your face looks like.
.
Women are so often socialized to put everyone else first, and if you ask me that hasn't gotten any of us to such a great place. I hope to someday live in a world where women get to take up just as much space as men, and where people won't comment as judgementally on how women look while they are doing that, but we aren't there yet, so here is my makeup tutorial.
