It's a lifestyle car for city slickers I think which is perfectly fine, it doesn't need to have any appeal to tradies. It's a car you can drive to and from work during the week for low cost and take your family camping on weekends. I think there's a lot the average person can do with such a vehicle.
It's perfect for the tradie that spends all day in the burbs, carrying a small amount of kit in the back. Which is 90 percent of dual cabs I see on the road day to day.

This ute will do all that in comfort....it really is perfect. I'm practical not stuck to one brand or tech...it seems to me this is the future

I've owned 3 utes Ranger, amarok and at the moment a GWM, had them all for 3 years. To my surprise the GWM is the only ute that hasn't broken down out of the 3 still the same as when I bought it new. Granted it's probably not as comfortable as the other 2 but it's not far off. Before the GWM I wouldn't even look at a Chinese ute, now I'll be ordering a BYD this year.
Call BS on GWM falling apart after 3 years. Ours had a hard life just towing and going great. Lost less money than other mainstream brands because it is cheap to start with
Ah, the old, “I’ve got a friend who…..etc” I own a GWM cannon from new. It’s a second vehicle in the family and has done 50,000 kms and is used for farming. Does a bit of bitumen work but not a lot. I did change the springs and shockers as I wanted a bit more clearance and firmer ride. I tow with it but usually under 2 tons and also tow a boat about 1500kgs. Not a single problem so far. Not bad off road and at least as good as the BT50 it replaced.
Its a great car on paper, but my guess is that it will only really be purchased by private individuals or owner operators. I just cant see it threatening the Hilux and Ranger as a company car. Fleet buyers love Ford and Toyota. I just cant see the Shark threatening those. The main issue with the Shark is that you need to plug it in to get the best fuel range and performance. Bazza the electrician / plumber isn't going to plug his company provided work ute in at his house using his own electricity when he gets home at the end of the day. They typically have a company fuel card. On the flip side Bazza is going to love being paid to sit connected to a public charger for an hour on company time. The other foreseeable issue is second hand value. I wonder how much value the Shark will retain after 5 years of ownership compared to a Hilux / Ranger? Might be better to get it on a lease...
The resale value of all new energy vehicles will drop significantly due to battery degradation. Hybrid cars are best suited for suburban areas where you have solar panels at home for charging, and your daily commute falls within the electric range. Gasoline can be used occasionally for long trips.
I still want to see how that little engine goes pushing 2.7t when the battery is depleted need someone to do expand on the testing Paul did on carexpert where the shark struggles to go over 70kmh
It's a PHEV where the engine is a generator. The battery has a minimum so of 25% but this can be increased up to 70%. You will only deplete the battery if you run out of fuel.
The 3kn dynotrailer test doesn't represent a single road scenario in Australia as per John cadogans analysis. Set a high SOC and you won't deplete the battery unless you run out of fuel.
@@lukeowen3660plenty of reviews of spirited driving. If you are not towing the performance is quite insane for a ute at this price point. Having driven one I can attest to that….
@Johnno1979 i get that but putting the vehicle in a high SOC kinda defeats the purpose of having a hybrid in the first place as the 1.5lt engine will be working harder and for longer. Thats what i want to see tested, how well does it maintain the 70% SoC, especially in a fully laden ute when you got things like bullbars and other weight. Especially if towing something like a 2tonne hybrid camper. So far this ute looks good for the money and does a lot right. But for that small % of us who use utes for towing and touring, I just want to see some real world testing done first. And thus video aint it.
This is basically an electric dual cab Chevy el camino, its a car with a tray. It cant do offroading. That may not matter to some people who wants a tray and do city driving. Its fast for what it is as well , but it definitely cant replace a , triton , dmax or hilux.

A very ordinary review. Take it out of the suburbs. What about fuel consumption once you’re out in the country where there’s no charging opportunities and it’s running on combustion. Couldn’t you have found an off-road track or even a gravel road to try it. If this is the best you can do, don’t bother.

We don't have domestic car brands/manufacturing in Australia to protect so why tariff Chinese cars? Putting taxes on Chinese cars just shows how the US and Europe can't compete with China, on one hand the West says Made in China = low quality then need to put tariffs on Chinese cars because US/Europe aren't confident that their own domestic products can succeed in a market with Chinese made cars.
The US/EU have domestic car manufacturing/brands to protect hence the tariffs. It just shows how the US and Europe aren't confident in their products succeeding in a market with Chinese cars.

Granted it's probably not as comfortable as the other 2 but it's not far off. Before the GWM I wouldn't even look at a Chinese ute, now I'll be ordering a BYD this year.
@@tk6009 you ordered a ford and a VW... really???
Not bad off road and at least as good as the BT50 it replaced.
if its turbo powered engine it'll be driving the wheels at some point
The engine does drive the wheels, it was a mistake, look at his pinned comment
It’s be odd to put a turbo on a generator engine if it didn’t lol
See how she goes on the corrugations.😂
next facelift might be near latest bronco styles😂
Very poor review. Doesn't even know about the 3 button swipe. Do you research.
Not quite correct engine will engage front wheel drive over about 70 kph in certain conditions
aye? Talk aout misinformed. It's a hybrid, not a straight EV.
The shark 5 is $40k cheaper than a raptor, $30k cheaper than a platinum. Combined with the fuel savings that makes depreciation a non issue.
@@Johnno1979 plus, if you buy a vehicle specifically with depreciation in mind... why are you really buying a vehicle?
I still want to see how that little engine goes pushing 2.7t when the battery is depleted need someone to do expand on the testing Paul did on carexpert where the shark struggles to go over 70kmh
It's a PHEV where the engine is a generator. The battery has a minimum so of 25% but this can be increased up to 70%. You will only deplete the battery if you run out of fuel.
The 3kn dynotrailer test doesn't represent a single road scenario in Australia as per John cadogans analysis. Set a high SOC and you won't deplete the battery unless you run out of fuel.
I agree, just pootling round the suburbs is not much of a test. I would like to see more spirited driving in these tests…..
BYD need to provide a 2 liter engine turbo charge option for not everyone is interested a hybrid or EV
they do not make ice vehicles any more, all are hybrid or full ev.
No, like a 2L Diesel Hybrid
To change fan speed use 3 Fingers left to right. To change temperature use 3 fingers up and down. Do your research first
Well that's a dumb system. Why not just put a switch in there to make it easy for all. Trying to be cheap again i guess
Some people can't evolve. Stick to your switches and knobs that were designed in the 70's.
Good
ALL RHESE REVIEWS BUT YOU Cnt buy them in north america🤔🤔
This champ needs to get his info correct in exactly what the ICE does.

This is basically an electric dual cab Chevy el camino, its a car with a tray. It cant do offroading. That may not matter to some people who wants a tray and do city driving.
Its fast for what it is as well , but it definitely cant replace a , triton , dmax or hilux.
Why cant it 'do offroading'?
And how many hilux drivers never even see mud let alone drive through it.
Mate lack of veriaty? 3 colours if you wanna more door just wrap the car make like a rainbow 🌈 😂Dr car is less than 60k wow people are expecting what that give you quantas points and flybys? Hahaha
Seen one broken down in the left hand turn lane inala ave blunder rd Durack today around 5 on the way home from work today 20/01/2025.maybe the hype is just that. Hype.
I don't even own a suv but seen a lot of this in the so called automotive media...
Driving light is out at 20:00
It has self cornering lights to help guide you through the direction you're turning.
Obviously you have seen it, this is a luxury car feature, the light auto turns on to the direction you are turning
Take it through water and hard use good luck there.
Someone is struggling to find reasons to hate. The South Americans have been hammering their sharks for 6 months.
The ranger and amarok have a better designed interior. I just see plastered screens in the shark.
I love it when the car reviewers don’t even understand the way the driveline operates. Embarrassing
There’s one very BIG drawback in the way they’ve set it up: not even dumb cruise control when towing. That’s extremely disappointing, and a very big negative!
I also agree: servicing costs are way over the top, very disappointing.😢
If it was smaller yes
Don’t try and park in a standard carpark. It’s too big….
Cannot even climb man made obstacles 😅
If you are referring to CarExpert test. TH-cam search, “2nd attempt Shark 6”.
The second ute with updated software walks up the same hill like it’s nothing.
Weird to add 'man made'... like all man made things are easy to climb or something?
Not up to diesel utes
A very ordinary review. Take it out of the suburbs. What about fuel consumption once you’re out in the country where there’s no charging opportunities and it’s running on combustion. Couldn’t you have found an off-road track or even a gravel road to try it. If this is the best you can do, don’t bother.
Hilux and Ranger are reliable and tough, which the BYD is not. It is a city only Ute.
Buddy… you just be joking… Hilux and rangers are cheap cars for those who are not very well educated
look underneath it looks like it’s just quickly put together

I see my last coment has rattled the cage of some of the sheep rushing in to order a new BYD Shark 6 .I hear the number of Sheep is now almost 6000 ,I call that pretty Stupid without a test drive. The Chinese Auto maker will be rubbing their hands with glee as you won't get your money back when it turns out to be a Lemon.
Did you take your meds today?
@@glennO-e9r Did l hurt your feelings Princess. My guess is your going to buy one,Maybe the dealer will throw in a bit of Covid for you ha,ha.
Oh dear
Some are happy to be a sheep clearly
Time for your tapioca pudding and nap, grandpa.
😂 Chinese state-owned agent?
Did China 🇨🇳 buy Australia 🇦🇺 🤔
Whilst the rest of the developed world will tariff Chinese made cars 100%
How long will it last 🤔 How's resale values going to be 🤔
We don't have domestic car brands/manufacturing in Australia to protect so why tariff Chinese cars? Putting taxes on Chinese cars just shows how the US and Europe can't compete with China, on one hand the West says Made in China = low quality then need to put tariffs on Chinese cars because US/Europe aren't confident that their own domestic products can succeed in a market with Chinese made cars.
Developed Norway, Switerzland and UK for example, do not impose any tariffs on Chinese evs.
The US/EU have domestic car manufacturing/brands to protect hence the tariffs. It just shows how the US and Europe aren't confident in their products succeeding in a market with Chinese cars.
Resale will be zero but let them learn the hard way
Carsguide-useless infomercials for the commuters on public transport…zero new information or proper testing of the Shark. This vehicle is upending the market on price and expectations-Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi will need to rethink big time!
Imagine the mess on the screen if it was a work Ute
They are banning these tracking devices in the USA but go ahead and buy one if you like. Of course there’s nothing to see here 🤫
Your Ford and every other car will do the same tracking. Put the tinfoil hat down and lay off the fox news.
It's all good in the city. Just stay away from hills otherwise it will go to limp mode.
Your brain is in limp mode
the design is not quite there yet. looks Chinesey.
As opposed to japanesey😂
@@jeppo1185😂
I think it looks pretty good actually.
Looks great in person, it has a lot more road presence than Tritons, Hilux etc.
After the early adopter rush this thing will be a flop.
Rubbish!
@FutureSystem738 Yes they are rubbish.
Max Load is less than 800kg useless for a ute.
80% of ute owners wouldn't ever carry more than 800kg payload.
Ford raptor is only 758kgs load capacity....
@TheBopper77 don't come at us with facts please. I need to carry 1000kg at all times. 😂
Over 5500 orders without test driving it or even physically sighting one of these Ute's made in Chinah. I can just see the sunarmi of complaints when these Cheap Chinese Ranger copycats don't live up to expectations. It will be just another Cheap Sht Box from Chinah that you can't get rid of.There is an old saying, You get what you pay for !
I dare you to go and test drive one. Then hop back into whatever ute you currently drive and not have that feeling you paid way too much for an inferior product. The legacy manufactures also have an old saying, a fool and his money are easily parted!
@ferraltech old mate here thinks more expensive = more better. Imagine paying heaps of money for a sht box. Gotta keep up with the Jones though.
You get what you pay for.......yep, and Toyota and Ford love this philosophy, too. And they make you pay more and more every model😂
Old grandpa trikpony is really struggling to cope with awesome new tech from China. He once said the same thing about Japanese tpuotas and Taiwanese Kias.... Hell come around.
Better build quality than any American made car though.🤷♂️
