The initial costs won't matter all that much if the return on the investment in the form of arable land that produces useful agricultural products is greater than other investment options. If this is the case, then this project will be a sustainable and common sense example of how environmentalism should work.

The belt is stated to be planned as 8'000x15 Km (5'000x10 miles), or 120'000 square kilometers to host 11'000'000 trees - around 90 trees and 67'000$ per square kilometer. 750$ per tree is the figure. But that includes the salaries! The operation is jobs-based. EDIT: scrap the data, as one user noted the 11'000'000 should be the value /for Senegal only/. If the area for Senegal will be of 500x15 = 7'500 Km, they plan to plant 1'500 trees per square kilometer, in a virtual grid of a tree every 25 meters. So the rough estimation for the total amount of trees is 180 million, or less than 50$ per tree.

entrepeneur well, building a wall that is physical, really won't deter people from Crossing, this is not the Middle Ages, so building a sheet of tin foil around a certain border can't stop people from flying over it with planes or tunneling under like El Chapo and Pablo Escobar, however a diplomatic and legal will would be a much better solution, meaning that the only work that illegals can get would be poor jobs, which has already how the system works and those legals take up the jobs that most people don't want like Farm labor and coal mining, in fact illegal immigration could actually benefit the us, if it wanted to reinstitute a slave class

Who cares, Matt. As long as she stays there, I'll agree Africa is the best place in the entire world and there's absolutely no reason to leave. The only thing left to do is to convince the rest of her species infesting the developed world of the same thing.

@@English_Lessons_Pre-Int_Interm population control wouldn't actually do much. People don't talk about it because the idea is so absurd it's an absolute waste of time. Corporations are the causes of environmental destruction. You can see that from this pandemic - people aren't driving, office AC isn't running, but emissions haven't lowered.

Adding grasses will speed up the process... Grasses help prevent soil erosion and play a vital role in eco system. Draws up water to the surface and natural springs as nd body of waters start to form.

I agree with you - how does grass play a vital role in ecosystem and preventing soil erosion
In general, grasses provide the most beneficial effects on soil structure. They tend to increase soil aggregation, which can enhance water percolation, soil aeration and soil carbon storage. They also enhance subsurface cohesion, which is critical in decreasing soil erosion.

Interestingly, in other areas, like bordering the Chihuahuan desert, it's grasses that protect the soil and allow water to flow into the earth instead of washing away. Restoring wet lands there often involves clearing trees that shade out the native grasses and re-seeding the grasslands.

In my country Morocco in North West Africa the sand is moving and destroying little villages there is acacia trees but not a lot. The weather is much more harder than is countries like our brothers in Senegal. They are in the Sahel region, and we are in the Sahara. Most of the time there is not rain for 3 years so it would be difficult to raise new acacias. The adult acacias can survive because they find water deep 60 meters under sand. But I hope one day the Sahara would be a large Savannah and maybe a forest like at the time of the first imazighen people (our first ancestors in North Africa, with ancient Egyptians). 👍🏽

I also began with a terrible piece of land. 7 years later I have an orchard of heritage trees, red and black currants and Sumacs. I planted cedars to cut the winds from blowing across my land. This also helps prevent erosion. Everyone, man woman and child, should plant at least 4 trees in their life time.
