  • Flights by Kurt Eherenman during the Chili Blaster rocket launch event hosted by the SCORE/Southern Colorado Rocketry Club at their Stealey Memorial Launch Site at Hudson Ranch southwest of Pueblo, CO. First flight was a 4" diameter Wildman Drago XL on an Aerotech K700W motor. The flight had an apogee of 6,523' and landed about 20 yards from the launch pad. Second flight was a 3" diameter Mac Performance Arcas on an Aerotech K695R motor. I now have a personal best altitude attained with 9,311'. Had to travel 2200' east to retrieve the rocket. Third flight was a 2.6" Wildman Competitor on an Aerotech J420R motor. I managed to see the ejection of the drogue parachute at apogee, but lost it soon thereafter. My GPS locator had a glitch and reported the rocket landing 18 miles south east of the launch pad. Following my gut and the last known flight path, I set forth twice in a northwest direction into the dreaded cedar trees and dry washes to try and locate the rocket without success. What a sinking feeling thinking you just left a rocket, motor casing and a glitchy GPS transmitter somewhere in the high desert. Upon my arrival back to the launch area after the second search, I was informed Emma had found it about 100 yards east of the launch pad. Intact and ready to fly again. With a great sense of relief and 3 great flights, I am ready to get my level 3 certification in high power rocketry. Stay tuned.
