Great job! Everything else about the car is 100% logical but I couldn't figure this one out and the instruction manual wasn't clear that it's the volume knob rather than the start-stop button. Thanks!

I collected my G30 a few weeks ago. But the car was imported from Norway, so the owners manual is completely in Norwegian and I don't understand that language. I've been trying to figure out how to shut the iDrive system off when cutting the engine but without getting out of the car. Whenever I go pick up my wife at work, and I have to wait a while, I want to shut everything off. Until now, I Always opened and closed the door to do it, but that looks kinda silly… Now I now how to do it without opening and closing the door... Thanks!
But what I don't like is that when I cut the engine, and I get out of the car, and someone is still sitting in the passengers seat, everything stays on too. When they get out, everything shuts off.

@@Mario-fv3zs You need to press the Start button again (that's twice) to completely shut the car off! No need to open doors or fiddle with the iDrive... Its that simple.

@@Trump-The-GREATEST Thanks, I'll give that a try. But I found another way too… By pressing the 'options' button next to iDrive knob, a few options are displayed. And one of them is 'Shutdown car'.

no need to do all that! Just step out of the car, hit the lock button on the remote or handle and everything will shut down!

Yes, that's correct. However, most people leave these cars inside their garages. Then they'd be forced to keep their vehicle locked inside the garage...

Jeremy Ho the thing is, I wanna remain in my car while I wait for someone, but I don’t want it to be turned on because the battery will run out.

@@ScubaDiverMan711 Battery doesn't run out. It stays in ACC mode like the old cars with physical keys have. ACC is position 1, and ON is position 2 in the ignition. ACC is when u turn the key to play with the radio, charge ur phones, etc ... ON was the position where you turn to start the car, this position is where it will drain the battery because if ignights full battery power to the selinoids, sensors, and starter... Hope u understand....

Man skip all that BS! All you need to do is "press the START BUTTON AGAIN". That's it, everything will turn off!
It doesn't shut off completely on the first press cause it stays at "ACC" mode so as many like kicking it in their cars playing the radio or navigating the iDrive, etc... Pressing it again will shut-off completely...
If your still in the car after completely shutting the car off, after a minute the car will automatically lock all doors and apply the Parking Break! Cool shit huh... So even if u forget to lock the car when u got out and walked away, this bad boy will self lock itself after 1 minute!

It would be nice to "skip the BS" but unfortunately in this case, it does not work that way. I am not sure where you are located (systems vary per country) but in the US, pressing the start button again will not shut everything off. That's true for the F-Chassis cars, not for the G-Chassis cars. Also, the car will not lock by itself after a minute when you walk away unless you have a newer BMW with the advanced Comfort Access. That system senses that you are walking away from the vehicle and it locks the doors. As mentioned on a previous comment, the intention of this little video was to show a customer how to turn off the iDrive and electronics in the car without having to lock the doors because the car is kept inside a garage.

Or you can get out of the car close the door and lock it. It shuts it all off

    • @jorgeguardincerri889

As mentioned on a previous comment, people that park their vehicle inside a garage do not necessarily want to lock their car. That was mainly the purpose of the explanation.

    1. Even though I use volume knob to turn off the display, my ambient light stays on.... is it okay?? Or it will drain battery. it s so annoying to lock my car everytime. 2. When I click 'option' as video shows at the end, I dont have all those selection. I only have 'turn off display'. Anyone can help me how to turn off the car (including ambient light) without locking.

Hi Denny, try to shut the engine off by pushing the stop engine button before you open the driver's side door. If you do open the door before you shut the engine, hold the volume button down until everything turns off. The interior ambient lighting should go off after a few minutes, they do not use a lot of battery since they are LEDs. Let me know if it works out for you.

@@jorgeguardincerri889 okay. Sometimes, I parked in the garage and push stop engine button 1 time. And forget to push volume knob to shut off everything. And I open the door and go into the house. Next morning, when I go to garage, omg... always ... the car headlight and taillight are staying on. Idk since when. So annoying.. But fortunately car started well.

@@denny2427 I've heard of this issue before. Give your service advisor a call and explain what's going on. It might have to do with programming. They probably have a fix for this issue.
      Good luck!
