In 2 cases, there is no translation to Amaya's hang gestures - with queen Saray, and with Janai. Turns out that this is real American Sign Language (ASL)! With the help of Red and SnowmanLS from signlanguageforum.com, here are the missing bits.... (:

Well that's translated in the show, so...
Fetch a stable boy because I've just found a steaming pile of bull(shit)......droppings.
and the part where she tells janai to put a sword up her *** (or something, earlier in season three when the translator said “she suggested an unusual way in which your body might accommodate your sword...”)
i think ill use that whenever someone says some bullshit

I think the point of this video was to cover the naughty lines that weren’t translated; that line about bodies accommodating swords was, and so was the line about bull droppings.

Because it's not always the voice what make it funny, it's also the way and the personality of the character what make it hillarious, and if you can understand what she say, it easy. How do you think a comedic relief is writen in a book whitout a voice?
In the one with Harrow, she actually signed, "oh I get it, he's signing...". It's a joke about hand movements being mistaken for sign language, but supposed to be perceived as a dirty joke.
The second one with Janai, she says, "She (Janai) thinks I'm cute, but she won't admit it yet."
What did they think he was signing

The cool thing about having a character who only talks via sign language is that the creators can sneak in some high-level snark

actually the joke at 0:08 is that he's being very expressive with his hand and Amaya's making fun of it, saying that it looks like he's using his own kind of sign.
i think in the context of the scene (find the right spot, get the job done) it's a joke about... well you can figure it out

They couldn't, because it's (also) a kids show. This was clearly meant to the adult audience. Makes me wander how they didn't count in deaf children, though.

I need to watch this show, it would help me learn asl plus everyone I've talked to about the show says it's amazing.
EDIT: After six months I of learning ASL, I can now mostly understand what she is saying. Need to slow it down to understand everything, but I am pretty happy with where I am in terms of knowing ASL now.
It is amazing show. It's the rightful heir of "Avatar-TLAB", not that Korra shit. Also - there's going to be four more seasons! (please don't ruin it, please don't ruin it, please don't ruin it).
@@Lighthouse_out_of_order Legend of Korra is equally good to avatar The Last Airbender, it might have its flaws but it is equal to avatar The Last Airbender.
The only flaw I’d say is the animation in the first season. It looks a bit odd, but gets way smoother as time goes on. It’s a good show to watch.

It actually took me by surprise cause I was not expecting her to have a romantic partner
I was like “she gonna be the badass aunt”
But when they showed her having a relationship with the dark elf girl I was like “huh? Guess I missed the hints?”
Cause most of their interactions I saw it as rivals in good terms or maybe best buddies
Odd cause I saw the hints of a romantic relationships on everyone else
Maybe because I had the mindset of she is the badass one so maybe she ain’t interest in romance yet

I saw the signs, but I wouldn't have if I had been younger. Amaya's interests are...more advanced.

Most of the seasons 1-3 is about the futility of revenge cycles, with those who will cling to them (Viren, Runnan) and those that understand they should be left behind. Both Amaya and Janai are clearly with the 2nd.

@@waross8214 Again, same goes both ways. I don't see the point setting just Janai on this pedestal. Others belong there way more than she is - Queen Aanya had her parents killed, for example. Even Queen Zubeia who had he mate stoned to death.

We've seen enough elves by now to know that there are evil elves (Aaravos), coward elves (all the Dragon Guard barring Rayla's parents), or douche elves (Nyx).
The exposition of season 1, that presented the story as Evil u-mans vs. noble elves was a set-up from the very beginning. What we've seen from the elves so far they are no better than any u-man on average.

I dig the idea of them not being in love. They are two valiant warriors who honor and respect each other. Both lost their sisters and they miss the confrontation, the complicity.
Beside, from little which i have understood about sign language, everything can be interpretated. "Like" could mean "dig", "appreciate", it all varies on the context.

Honestly I kind of like How there are translations because it gives people who do understand sign language their own inside joke and the rest of us just get these sort of R2-D2 moments where we get the characters responses but we don’t know what they’re actually saying.

Honestly, I don’t like the idea of a commander who can’t talk.
I feel like they tried to recapture Tophs idea, where she had a disability. But for Toph, her disability made her strong and gave her abilities both unique to her and were very effective in combat. Literally she would be weaker if she wasn’t blind. She has her strengths and weaknesses that was unique to her.
This chick though… I don’t see it. There is no strength to bring mute as a commander. Quite the opposite in fact. It’s detrimental. How is she supposed to effectively give orders and communicate with her men? She either needs everyone to know sign language or needs an interpreter to speak to her own men.
I get what they were going with, but it doesn’t work here.
rather than adding more and more lgbqt-themed stuff I would rather see more disability related character added to a story like Amaya. I don't need more people flaunting with their sexuality or genderisms (you can keep some in) What I need is to see more disabled characters living normal lives along "normal" despite having a handycap
