Manila's Finest depends on the interpretation of the character. Too me, Thenardier should be a brazen, over the top fellow with a humongous ego and personality, which is exactly as Lucas portrays him.
I don't know what you're talking about, the whole point of this song is that it's supposed to be over-acted and silly and over the top. It's meant to be a breath of fresh air in the middle of an otherwise very serious show.
Yeah, but some actors play the role differently than others. Many, like Matt Lucas, Chip Zien, and David Rossmer play the role more extravagantly, hamming up the comedy, while others, like James Hume, Martin Ball, and Cameron Blakely are more sinister and surly in their portrayals. I prefer the latter, but judging on popular opinions, I seem to be on the minority there.
