I picked up this hammer crimping tool by Temco for a solar battery system install that we needed to crimp thick cables. I will show how the Temco TH0007 Hammer Crimping tool works in this video. I am using 1/0 crimp terminals on 1/0 cable made for welding and automotive use.
Instructions per Temco Website
STEP 1 Place terminal in jaw of crimper. Place stripped wire in terminal.
STEP 2 With crimper on solid surface, strike crimp ram with hammer 1-2 times.
STEP 3 When hammer impact feels solid, the crimp is complete.

A quick review I did on my hammer crimping tool. I really wish I had this around 1998-2008 when I did lots of car audio installs and competed in USACI. This tool will sure make the ring terminal connections much better.
We have automatic terminal crimping machine ,do you have a interest with it?

That's a cool tool it reminds me of a cable cutter I found at an old abandon sawmill you lift the insert up put the steel cable in and wack it with a sledgehammer
I just looked for that tool you mentioned and it's very similar to this crimper. I used to hammer the terminals flat with a hammer and really deformed the terminals. I need to buy me maybe some #1 cable as the 80ft 1/0 gets heavy.

Great video! I love my hammer crimper. I still use even though I now have one of those fancy hydraulic crimpers. LOL I like use the Jokari cable stripping knife to prep my wires. Using a razor blade always made me nervous.
Which hydraulic crimper do you use. I might add one to the Christmas list.

What subs and amps you running? I been out of the audio scene but got me some Audioque hdc3s, Hifonics Colossus and miscellaneous older amps. Glad you liked the video.
@@cutweldngrind yeah same here brother, been out of the gsme for a bit...but was running two pioneer 12 tsw311d4, on a pioneer dm8601 800 watta rms amp...busted one and now running only one and the amp is running at 2ohms...500 watts but it bangs...but decided it was time to upgrade. So picked up a JP23 2300 watts rms 2 skar ddxs...at 1000 rms each....doing the big 3 and will run 1,/0 all around...wife will get the pioneer setup...
@@cutweldngrind I'm still rocking a "Crunch GP3000D-Pro" from like 2007, it's so old that there are no internet listings anymore for it. Beautiful amp.
When stripping wire by hand, an electrician taught me “don’t score the wire!” If you do, cut it off and start over.
I have seen horrible scoring of the wire in the past where more than half of the wires were cut off before crimping. I also try to avoid scoring the wires but cant remember what I used in this video. I will have to agree with you on this and thanks for the great tip.
That would work well in a press or a vise as well. I wouldn't mind one of those.
I may just try it on my vise on the next cable I terminate. The hammer worked great on it to. Well, enjoy the Holidays friend.
I always use my vice with the crimper! No jumping around and the connection is always perfect.

Edit: Nevermind, my Vice doesn't open wide enough for me to seat the mechanism inside. I guess hammer it is. I'll use my vice flat surface though as the base for the mechanism! and am sticking my Vice on top of a couple blocks of wood to shield the concrete below./

Cool. I did sound systems between 1998 to about 2008. I would later do repairs to amplifiers and equipment that shops would burn up. I would get called at 1 or 2 am to show up and fix issue before turning car back to owners. I owned gear like Hifonics VIII Colossus, USAmps Vlx400, Phoenix Gold Ms1000 and other huge amps. It was a cool era. I also worked at bestbuy in 2001 for about 8 months which I didnt like.
I still do crimping but mostly 8awg for solar installs.

I wish I had these in the 90s when doing car audio systems. I would get my framing hammer and smash terminals into a whole different shape.

This works fine, but make sure you buy the terminals with rhin material.
Thin, would those be the silver colored ones. I have a lot of terminals that look like galvanized / silver color but they are 2 AWG. I will be buying some terminals later for a solar project in the works. I have been buying several components to be able to have power incase of power outage.

@3:47 you mention the sizes, what good are the numbers if you just stick the ring terminal in there and give it a good whacken?
I simply just give it a few hits and don't really pay much attention to the numbers as I do mostly 2awg or 1/0 awg wire.
The V shape allows for different sizes. The numbers on the tool is to remind you of its limits so you don't go too small or too large.
Yeah. Glad I went with this and didn't go hydraulic. Rather pay $25 one time and use some elbow grease. Beats replacing seals every 3rd crimp. Or spending ~130$ for a reputable model.
I have used this crimper many times and was going to use it again today to place a new earth ground on my mig welder. I did a ton of 8awg, 4awg and 1/0 awg for a solar project and it works perfect. I saw a Hydraulic one but was to expensive.
Man that is a jerry rigged way of crimmping. Hydraulic crimpers really give a much better look and durability
Would you happen to have a Hydraulic crimper I can have. Yeah, those Hydraulic crimpers are awesome and If I still did car audio installs I would buy me one for sure.
And the hydraulic one doesn’t work on 0/1, 0/2, 0/3 or 0/4. I have bought three different ones and they don’t work. Just got the impact version of this one and this one works.

The tool seems to work ok but a pneumatic crimper or electric crimper is calling my name. I have some crimpers but they only go between 10awg and 2 awg if I recall.
You’d think a single proper blow would be better than repeat whacks, a bit like snapping metal bending back n forth like through work hardening. And I think I’m correct in that thinking so my advice is *hit it once and hit it good.✔️

can those come loose? thats the only thing i am scared about.
I say they will hold on fine since I have not had one come loose or over heated. I used to be in the car audio scene in the late 90s and used a similar tool to this one. This tool has worked great for me and for the cost I would try it again if needed.
I understand what you’re saying: it seems like solder would be superior, but the crimp is time tested method. Soldering is not recommended on automotive applications because it is soft enough to break.
I guess it sort of does the job, why not just get a hydraulic crimper though?
I really don't do much crimping these days, if I was doing car audio I probably would have one or two.

Not being a di©k but thats a utility blade not a razor blade there is a difference. A razor blade cutting power comes from how thin the edge is opposed to a utility blade's sharpened edge. A razor blade is kinda like a piece of sheet paper. Paper is not sharp yet you can get paper cuts. Just a fun fact that's all. I was actually thinking about getting one of these hammer punches for my needs good review
