  • This tutorial shows you how to make a 6x6 pocket page with interactive flaps and flips. There is a multitude of ways to transform this simple pocket page into pages with a whole new look! I will share the basic page first and then go into how I constructed each page in my Eerie Tale Mini Album. The pages I make will be used for my Romance Novel Ch. 2 Mini Album. At the end of the video I share one of the pages I have started and how I have given the basic pocket page a whole different feel with a simple twist (and flip)!

    I have a tip for those that don't use wet adhesive and prefer to use score tape. If you put a piece down and you find you need to remove it, the most careful way to do that without ruining your paper and still using the adhesive that is on there all you have to do is heat it up a bit with your heat gun and slowly pull it off and then reattach. I hate waste of paper and of the adhesive, so I find that that works wonderfully.
    I think your tutorial was good. Do you have a video on how you bind the pages. I just love your book.
    **Addition: I found it on your romance part 1. Thank you for doing this lovely tutorial

    Great tutorial. My mom just passed away two and half months ago. She was a fantastic cook and family meals were always so important. We (my sisters and Dad) have her handwritten favorite recipes. We also have an old bread box full of old recipes going back to 1900's from grandmothers, great grandmothers and aunts. Many of the pages are worn and brittle so this will be a great way to archive them We are recreating 4 books including many of the recipes and I am photo copying the old original recipes before they are ruined and also old pictures in some of the cookbooks. No copyright infringement but the most awesome retro pics to include these keepsakes. All the sisters will get one. It might take me some time, I have RA but the tools today make this a labor of love. Thank you for great instructions.

THANKS THANKS THANKS!!! :-)

The first one took me 5 tries...lol...but that's because I was trying to make one for an existing mini T album thingie that Dawn helped me with yesterday and I added the pocket but used different measurements. But I finally figured it out for a 2.5 X 3.5 all on my own!!! I'm so bad at this!!! o_O So thanks again and your mini that you already made looks beautiful!! And I love the Romance Novel papers. Thanks, Leda! In the tutorial I used the regular 12x12 sheets in the value packs at joanns and michaels. Maybe 60#. I have since found 80# core-dinations cardstock and its night and day thicker/sturdier. I don't know where it can be found, so I sell it in my store so I always have some :) scrapbookmaven.com/product-category/binders/

    I love your albums and think your 12x12 pocket pages are great! I'd love to make an album with these 6x6 finished pages but I'm not sure how big to cut my chipboard and spine. Do you have dimensions or tips to figure out how much larger the cover should be from the base pages? Thanks for sharing!

    • @ScrapbookMaven
      @ScrapbookMaven  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Julie! I like to make my binding first and see what the finished size is. That helps to figure out the spine's width. If I use a 3/8ths spacing, I can get away with a 2" spine usually. It totally depends on how dimensional your embellishments are, as well. For the front and back covers, you can make them the same size as your pages. I like mine to be a bit bigger. I like everything to be enclosed withing the dimensions of the covers usually, so I 1/4 larger on each side: 6 1/4 wide by 6 1/2 high. If I make tabs for my pages, I take into account how far they stick out and increase my dimensions accordingly. Hope that helps a bit. In the beginning, when I wasn't quite sure, I would save my cover for last and make all my pages and tags, attach them to the binding and then measure from there :)

    Hi, when making the very first pocket page you used 6x6 1/4. I'm guessing these are the page sizes. What if my page sizes are 8x8? How would I created that? Would I begin with the 1/4 and then 8, rotate 90 degrees and score at 8 1/4 then cut off the excess?

      Hi! Thanks. This video is my favorite binding method: th-cam.com/video/D4FGd39R55A/w-d-xo.html I don't use the tyvek much anymore, though. And, I go over attaching the pages very briefly.
      In this video I share another way to do the binding: th-cam.com/video/lLGEZ-o6vpk/w-d-xo.html
      This third video has me adhering the pages onto the binding at 56:50 in more detail: th-cam.com/video/9_Dpn-A8LlI/w-d-xo.html
      HTH!

    ! I just found your tutorial. It's great. I really like the pages. What kind of binding did you use for your book? Thanks for sharing!

      Susan M. Simmons Hi! I used the binding in this video: th-cam.com/video/D4FGd39R55A/w-d-xo.html
      I no longer like to use tyvek as I use an 80lb cardstock and find that it holds nicely.

    Love it -thank you. I'm kind of stuck on the third page though. Is there any way you could elaborate on that one?

    • @ScrapbookMaven
      @ScrapbookMaven  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The 3rd page is the same as the base page. The only difference is the addition of a flap that opens down. I showed it in cream cardstock because I had it on hand and it was easy to see. It is an extra piece of cardstock, from a new piece of 12x12. For the pocket under the flap for my Eerie Album, I just used the design paper. If you have a specific question, I'll try to answer more specifically :)

    Really love this tutorial, I'm doing it for Christmas
    How many 12x12 pieces of cardstock did you use in total for all of the pages?
    Thank you :)
    Hello from Spain!

      Hello! I used 1 card stock sheet for each page, so for a 4 page album you would need 4 cardstock sheets plus another sheet to cut for the photo mats. And I used another for any pockets I want to add or extra flaps. Hope that helps!

    *PLEASE* tell me what magnets you use, and if you just hid them under the paper...did you glue them or stick them in place?

    • @ScrapbookMaven
      @ScrapbookMaven  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Julie! I use round disk slice 8 x 1 mm magnets from eBay. I hide them between the base paper and the design paper using wet adhesive usually as that is what I primarily use. Sometimes I do stick it down with scor tape without removing the backing if I want to put the magnets in place so as not to forget in the process of figuring out what paper to use. HTH!

      +Larissa Laform There are tons of tutorials on how to bind, so I felt silly repeating. This is a good tutorial based on Kathy Orta's binding: th-cam.com/video/W1A2doGIuyk/w-d-xo.html
      Kathy Orta is amazing and most everyone uses her binding method.

    Your pages look stiff and sturdy. Do you use some kind of stiffener (sp?) on them?

    • @ScrapbookMaven
      @ScrapbookMaven  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iam Scrappy Hi again! I use Aleene quick dry adhesive to adhere my papers because I like how it does create a stiff and sturdy page. The only drawback is that it can cause warping especially if you use too much glue. To minimize this I like to put my pages under something heavy throughout the creating process for it to dry flat.So, there's definitely a trade-off you have to decide which option is best for which project.

    when I used this for Mini Romance Album the pages were different please tell me how I do this especially the second page were you went across when opening. I have been at this for two weeks on and off due to frustration. Please help I will not give up

    • @ScrapbookMaven
      @ScrapbookMaven  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geraldine Ciotti Hi Geraldine, I'm sorry this has been frustrating for you. I will do my best to help. For the Romance pages I just rotated the page the page 90 degrees to the left and flipped it upside down. This makes the opening which WAS the pocket opening for the Eerie album now the binding opening for the Romance album. Now your page flaps should flip down and to the left on the front-side of the page instead of to the left and up on the backside of the page. It is the same page constructed the same just turned and flipped so that the interaction is on the front when attached to your binding. Once that is established, for the second page- you are removing/cutting off the flap that flips down on the romance page (on the Eerie page it flips out to the left). On the section that is removed, create a hinge by scoring at about 1/4"- this hinge you attach to the left side of you front page to create the flap that fold out to the right. Keep in mind that you will rotate and flip your page once you are done re-attaching your other flap. Same construction as the Eerie page starting at about 11:05 in the video, just once you construct the page in the tutorial, you rotate it and flip it for the Romance page and the flaps opening up and down will now open across. If you need further clarification, please let me know and be super specific so I can be more helpful! HTH!

    • @ScrapbookMaven

      Marianne Petralia I like to use Core'dinations 80lb. cardstock for album pages:
      scrapbookmaven.com/?s=cardstock+80&post_type=product
      When in a pinch, I go to Michaels/Joanns and buy their cardstock, it's 60lb, so not as nice

      Sorry it was confusing for you. For the third page, you will make the page exactly as you did on the first page. The only difference is that you will cut another piece of cardstock to whatever dimensions you want your flap to be, adding a bit to score and fold a mini flap to attach at the bottom front of your base pocket page. My flap is in ivory to show that it is from a separate piece of cardstock and not part of your base page until you attach it. I also added a pocket to my original album by gluing a piece of cardstock (about 6" by 2") on three side (bottom and sides) to the front of the base page. That was not gone over in this tutorial.
