Thank you so much. I ordered a metal replacement kit from Amazon. The parts worked great but their instructions were abysmal. Your video made the job super easy.
Do you have a video on Preventative Maintenance on Lazy Boy Electric Chairs... You briefly mention using Lithium grease ... A full PM video would be Great! Thanks
This is pretty close to the chair I have. My problem is the actuator that controls the back is intermittently not functioning. I have determined that it is not an electrical issue, and has to do with the actuator itself. But what confuses me is that consistently, I can get it to start working again if I apply more pressure and cause it to strain harder. Any idea what my issue might be?
@4xdblack - Unplug the unit & switch the connectors to both actuators to test. The connector that's powering the footrest actuator should be plugged into the actuator that controls back tilt and vica versa. Now when you plug the unit back in & push the button for the footrest, the back will tilt instead. If the SAME actuator is still working intermittently after the switch, the actuator is bad. If the OTHER actuator starts doing the same thing, it's an electrical issue. Could also be the control box, if your chair is equipped with one.
Is the piece that is shown on the front side that looks like a leg or something like that. Is it in fact a leg that touches the floor when in recline position in order to stabilize the chair and keep it from rocking?
I need help. My wife is having shoulder surgery and won't be able to operate the control panel on our recliner. Is there an auxiliary control I can plug in temporarily so she can operate it with her left hand?
Hi! I switched these parts out, but the guide rod keeps “falling out” of the “guide”. There are holes that are empty at the end of the guide; I can’t find a schematic for what the name of the part is. The chair also keeps rocking with the chair back leaned back and the foot rest elevated. What am I missing? Can you please help me?
@sjdunn712 - It's possible that you didn't get the parts in their proper position during reassembly. Or, perhaps there's another problem. The chair shouldn't rock in the reclined position. That indicates that the Drive Toggle Connector is not properly engaged with the other parts. If you can, email photos of the issue to me at pete@reclinerrepairguy.com and I'll try to advise further.
@Ron DenHollander - A simple inspection should provide the answer. Remove the chair back & turn the bottom of the chair upside down -- as shown in the video. Plug in the unit & operate the hand control or activation buttons to inspect operation. Or, have a repair tech do the same.
I've got and old rocker recliner the back doesn't come off and a bolt broke on the arm part of metal frame now the back on the right side goes back I cant figure out how to get the screw bolt through without taking the arm off I would love to fix the chair because it is very comfy for an old chair
Have you ever needed to replace the support assembly bar (black bar that is mounted across the back of the chair that the 2 cyclinders are mounted on)? One of welded mounts has failed/broken off and Lazyboy provided another one but the bar appears to be screwed in place (2 screws on each end) from the other side of the wood which is not accessible. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks.
@Trevor Grams - It sounds like you'll have to loosen some upholstery to access the fasteners. Send a photo or 2 to pete@reclinerrepairguy.com showing the issue & I'll try to advise further.
@christymitchell9831 - Yes, most likely. And I'm surprised that you can still raise the footrest. I recommend that you stop using (raising) the footrest to prevent further damage and have an experienced repair tech check out your mechanism.
Hello, I have what looks like the same mechanism on my power recliner. the foot rest goes up, but stops before it is all the way up. there is not restriction in the movement that last few inches, but, won't stay up all the way. I have turned the chair over and can't see anything that is out of place or broken. Thoughts?
@Lauren Saar - I'm assuming that the footrest has opened further (higher) in the past. (Some modern recliner footrests do not open as far as others.) The actuator that controls the footrest may not be extending fully. That's one possibility. Have an experienced repair tech check the chair for other potential causes.
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 yes, I just had a hip replacement and was trying to adjust, and heard a pop ...but when I look at all the parts, it all looks fine. I can manually move it up to the proper position, but it's like the hydraulic piston doesn't extend enough??
My grandson was aggressively rocking in my rocker recliner. The leg lifts wouldn't go into the down position and it wouldn't go all the way back up. She turned the rocker over. One of the rocker legs has been totally split into. My daughter used some gorilla Wood glue and repaired the leg. We thought everything would be fine. But the rocker leg lift was still not coming all the way up, we could hear something popping. Found your video on TH-cam and my daughter looked at the video to determine what the problem was. @josephputnam6617 - La-z-boy parts are available through the manufacturer or one of their dealers. (Please note that some dealers will not order parts for consumers.) I don't know the name of that part, so take a photo of it so they can identify it for you.
I just started looking with the furniture store about the parts, I'll need to replace the third part not covered in the video... I had quite a catastrophic failure on my hands, sharp pieces of plastic everywhere! How common is this breakage ? Feels like it should be covered in some sort of extra warranty, they're just so brittle!
@mokmo23 - If the plastic part in question was attached to the Drive Rod, this part failure was/is fairly common. As a result, La-z-boy eventually replaced it with a metal part. You can order the Drive Toggle Clevis kit to get the parts needed to do the repair. However, you should also carefully inspect the mechanism & lift actuator for further damage that sometimes results from this failure & can affect other parts as well. This repair can be quite difficult for those attempting it for the first time. Therefore most people should have an experienced repair tech do the repair instead. I've done a few videos on this repair, including this one ------> th-cam.com/video/8cyYZM1orQg/w-d-xo.html
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 thanks! Furniture store sent me the assembly plan with the metal part, so I had to point out my failed plastic part did the job of the new part. Quite annoying.

..this is the exact chair my son just shattered the plastic pieces on...Its a super easy fix but I'm slightly perturbed at the fact that these pieces are even Plastic...🙄
Yeah, but the updated motor clevis mount is metal, and they're all under warranty, so you can get the parts for free and just have to figure out if you want to pay someone to fix it or do it yourself.
@@ICatheraTashaI The warranty only applies to the original owner with sales slip and proof. If you bought the chair secondhand at say....Goodwill...like I did, you're shit out of luck.
Those plastic piece are meant to be easily replaceable. If they were all metal it could put too much stress on the actuators or more expensive motorized pieces. So a quick $30 repair could cost $400 requiring new actuators. So the plastic pieces are actually a pretty smart design and architectural feature.
My husband and I are going crazy trying to do the replacement of the drive toggle clevis from your other video. We bought the T30 socket, we have applied heat and WD-40 and we just cannot get this bolt to turn. We are so afraid we will strip the head of the bolt. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
@birdbertly28 - If you haven't stripped the torx-head on the bolts, you should be ok. If you have a power impact driver, and can fit it snugly & securely to the bolt head, that may be your best bet. If you're removing the bolts without power tools, like I do, you'll want to watch the 3 videos I have on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website on this procedure. 2 cover the full installation procedure & 1 is a tips video on the installation. You have watched all your videos so many times we have them memorized, but just cannot get this bolt to turn. Do they put super glue on them at the factory or something?
@Lynn Phillips - If you're referring to the black plastic 3-Position Locks, see this video ---> th-cam.com/video/-uMYiqBp0y4/w-d-xo.html If you mean the Snap Locks (I think they're called) on some La-z-boy reclining sofas & Lift Chairs, no video on those yet. They're not hard to replace. Look closely at the old clips to see how they're installed. Remove 1 at a time & replace with a new clip installed the same way. Make sure you don't work on the mechanism when it's in a position where the scissors can close on your hands! If you're not confident you can do that, hire a repair tech.
@Lisa Jensen Jones - There are clips and/or fasteners that hold the Drive Rod in place. For the rod to start coming out of the chair, there would have to be mechanism damage that is quite obvious. However, if the chair is still working fine & it just looks like the rod may be backing out, that may be due to a "caved-in" outside arm panel. This can give the appearance of a mechanical problem when there is none.
@Chris Crawford - The video that shows the proper configuration of the Drive Toggle Clevis setup is here ----> th-cam.com/video/lP9Et7F8yVw/w-d-xo.html The 2-part video series that shows the step-by-step installation process is on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website & requires a membership to view.

@@chriscrawford6245 - There may be some out there somewhere, but I only use genuine La-z-boy replacement parts for mechanism repairs, so I don't have one for you.
@LS-zj7kv - La-z-boy has replaced the plastic Drive Toggle (the part that fits over the Drive Rod) with a metal part. It's called the Drive Toggle Clevis. Installing the metal Clevis part also does away with the Motor Clevis Mount, the plastic part that fits on top of the footrest actuator, as it's no longer needed. If you have those plastic parts & they're still working, you're fine. If/when they should fail, order the Drive Toggle Clevis kit to replace them.
Do you have an email address for questions? We have a newer lazboy electric recliner and a plastic piece that runs alongside the reclining mechanism came off, when we tried to click it back in, it snapped and we want to see if we can buy a new one. But showing a picture would be much easier
@Duke Normandin - Yes, there's a 2-part video series on the Drive Toggle Clevis Kit install, along with a "Tips" video on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website. Those videos do require a paid membership to view them, however. There's also a free video on how the Clevis Kit installation looks when properly installed, for those who are confident they can tackle the procedure without specific instruction -----> th-cam.com/video/lP9Et7F8yVw/w-d-xo.html
@robgardner756 - La-z-boy parts are available from the manufacturer and some of their dealers. Note that many dealers no longer order parts for consumers. This results in a bottle-neck of part requests at the manufacturer, often resulting in long wait times on the phone or via email.
Hey what's up recliner repair guy? I hope you're having a great day and I love your videos. I just recently did some TH-cam searches and I found you. My problem is probably rather common, but I don't see a video about it yet. The back of my La-Z-Boy slides up and off. One day, my roommate slammed down and the left side of the back leaned back. Upon inspection I discovered that the base, where the back slides down into the base, had bent so it can't be held by the female slot. I bent it back to match the right side, and applied JB weld so it would accept the back, or the male side, of grip it. I don't know the parts or the terminology. What I want to know is, is this a temporary fix, a permanent fix, or a useless fix. If you have an email, I can send you a before and after and perhaps you can better decide whether this may work. Perhaps a regular weld would be more effective. I don't want to give up on this 2008 La-Z-Boy recliner. It has been wonderful. Thanks!
@GrCent - The metal "posts" that the recliner back brackets slide onto are called Seat Swings. If they are damaged or otherwise not working well, you can simply replace them. See this video ------> th-cam.com/video/jzN1x5jZ-gA/w-d-xo.html However, also check where the Seat Swings fit into a hole on the side of the arm frames for damage. If the fit is poor or not good, the swings may not work properly. In that case, a frame repair may also be necessary.
@margieschwartz6757 - It would make sense that the parts are likely the same. Otherwise, the company would have to incur additional expenses with producing different parts for a given region or area.
@@margieschwartz6757 - There can be a number of reasons for this, including the possibility that they don't have the necessary experience to do the required repairs on your chair. Ask them if they can refer you to someone else in your area for service.
@JosephBarrett-zo1lc - If you are the original owner of the chair, these parts will likely be covered under warranty. The parts should cost ~ $15 through La-z-boy. However, if you are not the original owner (don't have warranty coverage), you'll have to pay the retail cost for those parts. Contact La-z-boy or one of their dealers to get a quote. FYI even the impact driver we spent $20 to rent did not work - fully managed to strip the head now though.
Do you know how to replace the snap safety (plastic) clips on the lazy boy leg rest. I have a picture I can show you I don’t see how to send it to ya.
@Lynn Phillips - If you're referring to the black plastic 3-Position Locks, see this video ---> th-cam.com/video/-uMYiqBp0y4/w-d-xo.html
If you mean the Snap Locks (I think they're called) on some La-z-boy reclining sofas & Lift Chairs, no video on those yet.
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 thank you so much for all your videos and help. I just can’t get them to stay in place. I am calling a technician today.
My drive rod on my recliner is backing out. How can I fix that?
@Lisa Jensen Jones - There are clips and/or fasteners that hold the Drive Rod in place. For the rod to start coming out of the chair, there would have to be mechanism damage that is quite obvious.
However, if the chair is still working fine & it just looks like the rod may be backing out, that may be due to a "caved-in" outside arm panel. This can give the appearance of a mechanical problem when there is none.
Where’s the video for the “Harder” fix around the square metal axle?
@Chris Crawford - The video that shows the proper configuration of the Drive Toggle Clevis setup is here ----> th-cam.com/video/lP9Et7F8yVw/w-d-xo.html
The 2-part video series that shows the step-by-step installation process is on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website & requires a membership to view.
Is there a video showing installation of this…
AUGSMIAR Metal Drive Toggle and Clevis Mount Fit La-Z-Boy/Lazyboy Power Recliners.Set Includes 4 Elastic Wear Bushings.Fits for La-Z-Boy Power Rocker Recliners.
@@chriscrawford6245 - There may be some out there somewhere, but I only use genuine La-z-boy replacement parts for mechanism repairs, so I don't have one for you.
Are there metal parts to substitute for the plastic ones?
@Sarah - You can email photos to me at pete@reclinerrepairguy.com
Thx for the video! However, my Drive Toggle is what blew up recently. Did you ever make a video on how to replace that culprit? TIA ...
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 Much obliged! Thx ..
Thanks for the info.
@larrycassidy1702 - You're welcome!
Where can you order these parts?
See this video ------> th-cam.com/video/jzN1x5jZ-gA/w-d-xo.html
However, also check where the Seat Swings fit into a hole on the side of the arm frames for damage. If the fit is poor or not good, the swings may not work properly. In that case, a frame repair may also be necessary.
I could really use your help with my Clayton Gold Power Lift Recliner.
Are the parts the same for Lazy boys in Canada? I'd hate to cast off a thousand dollar chair. Thank you.
@margieschwartz6757 - It would make sense that the parts are likely the same. Otherwise, the company would have to incur additional expenses with producing different parts for a given region or area.
Thank you. The lazy boy techs in my area (Fairbanks) are reluctant to touch this chair, which I find to be absolutely ridiculous.
@@margieschwartz6757 - There can be a number of reasons for this, including the possibility that they don't have the necessary experience to do the required repairs on your chair. Ask them if they can refer you to someone else in your area for service.
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 Thanks. Anywhere else close to us is over 300 miles away. I'm at the point of doing a parts search.
How much does the toggle clivs kit cost
@JosephBarrett-zo1lc - If you are the original owner of the chair, these parts will likely be covered under warranty. The parts should cost ~ $15 through La-z-boy. However, if you are not the original owner (don't have warranty coverage), you'll have to pay the retail cost for those parts. Contact La-z-boy or one of their dealers to get a quote.
Here's what you need to know to order La-z-boy parts -----------> th-cam.com/video/5M6d40rxH-s/w-d-xo.html
Where can the parts be ordered?
@Joan Ellis - La-z-boy parts can be ordered through the manufacturer or one of their dealers. I'd check with a local dealer first, to see if they have these parts in stock.
