I have to agree with Bobby. Crab is just too much trouble. It's very good, but way too much trouble to get the meat out of the shell.
Love Sea of Cortez, so many cool places to explore. Living in Phoenix, hope to buy a boat and keep it down in Puerta Penasco (Rocky Point), easy drive down.

Steph if you didn't put crab boil or seasoning in with the crabs when boiling,you should have. Looked delicious, cheers from Louisiana.
Not enough juice for the squeeze.
A Dremel tool to cut the crab legs into 2 inch pieces, then a nut picker or dental pic to pull the meaty parts out of the shell. Prep the crab this way before digging in. Long tooth pics to dip into spiced melted butter.

I'm thinking back home with mom, Steph was cooking Snow Crab or King Crab legs purchased at the market... These crabs look to have very round legs which makes them hard to crack, the snow and king crab legs are kind of oblong or flatter, so they don't have the kind of strength of a round shell... they crack much easier and are much meatier... In the end though, crab is crab, it's all tasty dipped in that butter sauce!

Gotta have 'em!! If you cut a dowel about the diameter of an old wooden broom stick about 9" long, those work good as well. Depends on the crab. Been eating since I was a kid. Love 'em!!!!

. Crab legs are my favorite meal, with drawn butter. Steph is right. It's life changing. Not sure what type of crab that was, but those were the hardest shells I've ever seen. Usually you just crack them in half in the middle, and the big piece of goodness slides right out.

Dam 25bucks for those 2 crabs, you guys stole them, i was gonna get some for christmas eve, it was 58bucks a pound, your 2 crabs would have been like 250ish. We had lobster instead, much cheaper

Not positive but I think your crab being so hard to break the shell is because they are so fresh. Using a mallet would be the correct way but without them something else is needed. The pliers could be used like a hammer but I think the bottom rounded edge of a small sauce pan would work better, place a piece on something solid like a good cutting board cover it with a towel and a few good wacks to crack it than pull it apart and enjoy. Also I like a little lemon with your butter for dunking. Darn now I'm hungry.

Amateurs with the crabshell cracking,just use your knife handles.
It keeps the sand out guys. Who wants sandpaper on their helmet ? Abrasion is a factor.

Use pliers crack gently down the whole shell to not penetrate the meat. You are right Bobby you spend lots for a crab meal and you also get aggravated trying to eat it.
