Brilliant video! The lack of creativity in modern book covers is something that strongly annoys me. And what really bugs me is when they release a new edition of a book that’s been around for decades and has had numerous different covers over the years, and they create a new, sloppy-looking digital cover when they could have just used any one of the book’s good covers that already existed.
Being a lover of the pulp men's magazines of the past, I find that uber machismo art from Kunstler, Pollen, Norem & Taglietti are just not acceptable to modern audiences so we are losing that fantastic art that with a single picture can tell a novel worth of text. I think with the AI art stuff in the mix now, we won't see much of anything that stirs the heart as it use to.
I bought that original version of The Black Company with the illustrated art BECAUSE of that illustration. I can't tell you how many books I bought for exactly the same reason. It's criminal that publishing houses think they can save money this way. It's very shortsighted. FWIW.

The new Elric editions have lots of interior illustrations btw.
From Saga Press? I have the first two but have to admit not cracking them open. Hopefully this one (and the third omnibus due out soon) will too.

Did you buy it back in 84? That's pretty cool. Yeah, for such an iconic cover they really should have used it for the new edition.
I love the Black Company books
Goblin and One Eye are inspired by Monk and Ham from Doc Savage.
@@PulpCrazy thanks I love Doc savage stories too
The elric cover looks great, didn't know the book was this year.
Yeah, a Conan and Elric novel coming out the same day. Probably hasn't happened before.
