I'm getting my wife some toilet paper for Christmas. If she gets mad at me, I'm blaming you, Corie! 😆 Just kidding! Loved the video! You're getting better over time at filming and coming up with creative content. The hard work you put into your channel shines through. God bless!
A couple of years ago, you would have gotten a kiss on the noggin for that Christmas present! 😁
@@gidget8717 Haha yes!
Thank you! Tell her I said you could buy her TP lol! 😂🙏🏻
@@gidget8717 Good point! 😂
@@Dougeb7 😘😁
I painted my bathroom one year and bought some new towels. That year my sister bought me some green toilet paper for Christmas to color coordinate with my new look! Everyone laughed at her gift, but I truly loved it. All these years later and THAT is still a gift to be remembered.
🙏❤️
I wish they still made colored toilet paper and tissues. They used to come in such pretty pastel colors.
Yes I’ve been making pure vanilla for a couple years. I like to give it for Christmas, also. My family laughs at me because I never use alcohol and I’m too embarrassed to go in a liquor store, so I have to get someone else to buy the vodka for me. One time I had some groceries delivered and I ordered some vodka, thinking that would save me the embarrassment, but when this very young man delivered my groceries, he asked to see my ID! Now, I’m 80 years old, so it was kind of funny that I had to show my id, and I quickly started babbling about how I wasn’t going to drink the vodka because I don’t drink, but I needed it to make vanilla with. 😂 I even have to laugh at myself, but I’m sure your granny could probably relate to what I’m saying.
I love this!!!! I also love that you said you prefer useful gifts at Christmas. My mom has ALWAYS given care package boxes or bags. They'd have things she'd shopped for with coupons and on sale. They were nearly free for her because she's so good at saving money. In the box would be food, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo and other necessities. NOW, when my kids were young, they used to snicker at these gifts from Grandma. Now that my kids are grown, they look for her box! One year she didn't give the grandchildren their care boxes and they were actually upset because they wanted the paper towels more than the expensive gift she got them! When I was young, I can't tell you how many times that care package of mom's saved me! Anyway.... especially this year, care packages should be what is given. No more electronics. No more crap.
Haha I love it! That’s right no more crap, just useful stuff!
Amen I agree 👍 🙏
I buy only pure vanilla extract - but I made my own vanilla (exactly the way you show in this video) a year ago, and I let it sit for 4 months. It is the best vanilla I've ever had and I put it in many things that the recipe doesn't even call for - example, I add it to my pumpkin pie, add it to my cornbread, and often I'll double the amount I use from what a given recipe calls for. Your video was very clear - just one thing to add. It's important to keep the beans fully submerged in the vodka (especially if you keep beans in a jar that you're using) otherwise they will get moldy and ruin the vanilla.
I love homemade gifts. I am making quilts for both of my daughters for Christmas this year. I have the first quilt (for my oldest daughter) finished, and I am working on the quilt for my youngest daughter. I am also quilting a table runner for my mother-in-law for Christmas. God bless you!
That's great!
Those are wonderful gifts @South of the Heartland. I still have and treasure the one my grandmother handmade and gave to me. She handmade a quilt for each of her grandchildren. The one she gave me is over 60 years old. They are all beautiful, if for no other reason than she made them just for us. She was a wonderful woman in all ways.
several years ago a late friend always gifted me with a large trash bag filled with laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, dish washing liquid and a gallon of Clorox, I absolutely loved that bag more than any gift I received. I am gonna make some homemade vanilla to give to my girls for Christmas this year. Thanks Corie for such a timely reminder of how wonderful homemade gifts are.
🙏❤️
I got 2 boxes of Cosco saran wrap for my birthday one year. It was the best GIFT EVER!!
Finally, I met someone who thinks like I do.
I've grown Vanilla Orchids in a greenhouse. It's a vining orchid b with small green flowers. The seed pods have to be fermented to bring out the flavor and that's why they feel sticky when you buy them to make extract.
That's cool!
Bet they are beautiful. You know I have never been given flowers. I have grown So many pretty ones. And now I can't even work on anye.
I made vanilla extract to give for Christmas gifts last year. I bought swing top 8 oz. bottles. I've since made another dozen bottles.
I have made home made vanilla extract for gifts! I love the smell of vanilla, such a rich fragrance. After I bottled the vanilla for gifts, I took the used beans and poured more vodka over them. I let them set for quite awhile, but they made a couple more bottles of extract. You could also put some of the spent beans in a cup or two of granulated sugar in a lidded container to make vanilla sugar. Smells so wonderful.
I make my own. I always use 1 oz per cup of alcohol for single fold and 2 oz per cup for double fold. I let mine steep a year for vodka, 18 months for rum. My favorite is spiced rum. The longer it steeps the smoother it gets. What a thoughtful gift. It’s the gift that keeps giving. ❤
That’s what it should be the ratio. Experts say 4 to 6 months.
I learned how to make vanilla several years ago. It is an easy recipe. Great idea for Christmas gifts Corrie. 100 % vanilla is so expensive in the stores now days too, so whoever gets these will get a wonderful gift. 👍
Very cool Christmas, or anytime gift for someone who bakes! I would be delighted to receive that! The longer it sits, the better it gets!
I was just researching on how to do this yesterday. I saw the current price at the grocery store real vanilla. Talk about sticker shock. Thank you Corie! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Yes, I know! I buy the real vanilla too. It seemed like the price jumped all of a sudden! I buy the real also because instead of 2 tsp of the imitation I only have to use 1 tsp of the real. Plus it just tastes better. 🍂🍁
You too? Southern California here, $29.99 for 8 oz. Is that insane? That’s one thing I wish I had stocked up on earlier.
Morning my sister in Christ!
I have grown to love the cabinet's color. Like old time barn red. The while tiles with red strip on wall all work well.
Yes I've made my own vanilla extract and I LOVE IT! So simple and delicious! I would much rather have this than any store bought kind 😉 Thank you for sharing and GOD Bless You 🧡
Love pioneer woman we went this week to see her lodge her merchantile store also ate there in her restaurant her pizza place also Charlie’s ice cream shop. Enjoyed her lodge .
Oh, nice!! Would love to go there!!!
Vanilla is a very nice gift to give to someone, especially to someone who bakes. Real, pure vanilla is very expensive to buy in the store. So, this is really a great and thoughtful gift!
I’ve been making vanilla for years. I have some in the pantry now that is three years old. I’ve made it with vodka, spicy rum and bourbon; all are great. I can’t actually tell any difference in the taste.
Thank you Corie I’m 72 and never knew how to make vanilla but I do now and I’m making some for my 2 daughters for Christmas, as soon as I get the beans from Amazon. I’m so excited!❤️❤️
Such a good point about gifting useful items. I had a lady who used to buy me things like an automatic can opener. Another person used to buy me food! I appreciated those gifts than anything else.
Saved in my "diy" and "favorites" playlists! Thank you and God bless and keep you as well. Shabbat shalom! 💙
I made vanilla several years ago, along with flavored vinegars for gifts. I put them in small baskets with a set of cute measuring spoons. They were both a hit! I've already given my kids my "wants" this year. A new battery operated lantern with a big package of batteries. I think we're going to have a rough winter and I'll want some light to read by the fire..
I didn't know you got married after I have followed your family off and on and recently back following! Congratulations! Also bring a homeowner! So happy for you and your husband. I agree with you giving practical, useful gifts! Vanilla is amazing! I also love home cooked things or mixes to throw together! I would much rather get something made rather than a gift just to get one. Blessings! Great idea for the vanilla. You are so sweet and kind and caring. Your whole family is. Thank you for sharing with us!
Thanks friend!
Vanilla is a great gift for someone who likes to bake. I made it last year and my daughter loved it. You can also add more vodka to the big jar with the vanilla beans after you pour some into smaller bottles for gifts. It's a gift that keeps on giving. I knew there was a reason I saved my maple syrup jars. I need to make more vanilla. Thanks for this video. It got me thinking about homemade gifts I need to start making for Christmas. I also like the toilet paper idea. In a previous video Katie mentioned that she gave your husband Word Search toilet paper as a gag gift. My 97 year old mother loves doing word searches and also happens to spend time in the bathroom. I think that would be a great gift for her.
That’s awesome! Word searches are great. Thank you!
Amen, it’s about Jesus!
Thanks so much for this recipe & showing how to make the vanilla flavoring. A couple of comments said that they put their beans right into the Vodka bottle. I think this is a good idea & then you can just pour it into individual bottles when you are ready to gift it. Homemade gifts are the best! Hugs!
Answer to prayer for me. Been wanting to make something to give as gifts at Christmas. I already make Chex mix every year and now this. Thanks so much.
I love that vanilla beans are just orchid seed pods. I’d love to find a vanilla orchid plant someday and grow one! Thank you for this great idea. Vanilla is crazy expensive and I use it all the time.
I would love one of those plants too!
I didn’t know this!! Now I need a plant, another plant lol my husband is gonna laugh
A vanilla bean in your sugar is wonderful! The last two years I have said I was going to make vanilla as it has gotten so expensive. My friend made it a couple years ago and it is fantastic! I made pickles and relish for gifts this year.
I did not know y’all had your own channel!!!. Love your mama…..I subscribed……
You cant beat home made
This will be my first time making vanilla and I am 72 yrs old.thank you for the video on how too. Bless your heart.
Thanks for watching! ☺️
I always love homemade gifts! Thanks for sharing that will make a great Christmas gift.
The liquor store clerk probably thought you were getting ready for a party with those handles of vodka 🤣. And here she is being all wholesome making vanilla.
I always feel like a weirdo when I buy a bunch for this and tinctures.😂
Uh huh.
I just watched this video and used your guidance to get my own vanilla extract started for the first time. Thank you for this very easy to follow video❤
So glad you enjoyed it 😁
🌺 Looks so pretty in those blue jars & I'm sureas it tastes wonderful too. ☃️❄️
Nice gift!
Yes, I have been making vanilla for a few years. It is delicious. You remind me to order some more beans and get another bottle going. Thank you for your videos. You are always interesting.
Sounds good!!!!
Another thing you can use vanilla beans for, is vanilla sugar. You don't need a lot of beans, one or two is enough. You just open the beans and put them in a Jar of sugar. I prefer to use it in Powdered sugar that I make myself. I'm frugal as well 😉
( what is usually done, when a recipe is asking for a vanilla bean, you need to empty the seeds to the milk, batter, etc. And using only the empty pod in the sugar)
You can make a vanilla gift with container of powdered sugar, and a bottle of the vanilla extract. Maybe adding a small yellow flower resembling the vanilla orchid
Oooo sounds amazing!
My daughter makes my homemade vanilla, and it is delicious. Thanks for sharing.
So easy to make your own vanilla. I love it. I slice mine open.
I started sewing at 51. Im making pillowcases and Everyone is getting no sew fleece blankets except my son is getting one of those chunky wool blankets ( just got 12 skeins of bernat big for him." We also make "Birdpoop" melted white choc over m&ms, rice chex and pretzels. You can pick up all kinds of christmas containers to package them in. My co-workers look forward to this snack every year. Last year I purchased casserole dishes with lids and etched their last name on the side and I found digital svgs off Etsy to etch on the bottom. I make a homemade gift card holder that doubles as an ornament every year for my kids and Christmas day they have to find it on the tree then they can have ornaments when the go on their own. I have made individual, from scratch apple pies, freeze them and deliver on Christmas homemade giant blueberry muffins. This vanilla will now go on my list for next ideas. Thank you for sharing
It tastes most amazing when it's sat for at least a year in a dark, cool place, and shook once a week. I also wash my vanilla beans before cutting them to get machinery gunk off them, or glove gunk from machine handlers, or other handler in the process of packaging them. I'm weird that way.. I too, use the brown or the cobalt blue bottles. I really enjoyed your video though. Your cheerful attitude is awesome and contagious! Glad I ran across this. Subscribed!!
Those are very nice Christmas gifts.
I am going to make it on the first. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
We love making homemade vanilla. We actually have some in the closet that we are gifting for Christmas. Love those little brown jars and I totally agree about the old jars being pretty with anything in them. As always great information. I just love your videos, God bless!
❤️🙏
Do you strain the beans out after the two months?
@@Moonflower129 I didn't know this when I made the video, but you can pour more vodka over the same beans and keep extracting them!
Love the tint on the old jars
When I have leftover vanilla bean pods after baking or cooking with them, I put them in a simple syrup (sugar & water syrup) or I put them in a closed sugar container. They taste wonderful in so many things. My favorite way to use the vanilla sugar or syrup is by adding it to sweet tea for a creamy vanilla back note. It's wonderful!
Sure like the color of your cabinets young lady.
Thankyou, so easily explained
Have to try it now
How cool is this, especially right now going into the Holidays and for gift giving... BRILLANT....
THANK'S for the learning video Corie never get to old to learn.
I started a bottle of vanilla a couple of months ago. The video I watched on TH-cam said to let it steep for at least 6 months for a good vanilla but a year or more for really good vanilla. So, I am going for the year or more. I have a nice jar of Mexican vanilla already that I hope will last me until this is ready.
I've never made it Corey but gonna have ta get the stuff an make it super simple thank you ☺️☺️
Corie, you are an entrepreneur at heart! I would love to get vanilla extract made with love from Appalachia as a gift. There is a good market for extracts, vinegars, and olive oils. Great idea.
Totally with you about getting practical gifts. Those are definitely the one I appreciate the most. Didn’t realize how simple creating vanilla extract was and it is very practical. Thanks for sharing!
❤️🙏
Awesome great words of Christmas wisdom. I will try this out for sure. Thank you. God Bless
I love making homemade gifts! I have been wanting to try this, gonna make some soon. God bless you Corie!
Thank you! You too!
Home made vanilla is so much better than the commercial stuff! I just started some about a week ago.
Great video! I’ve never made homemade vanilla. I had no idea it was so easy. 😅 I’m definitely making some for Christmas! 👍
I never knew it was made with alcohol. I would have guessed simple syrup. Thank you, this sounds delicious!
Corie I missed this video, I can't believe it but I did I'll watch it again and again till I get the recipe down pat AND watching this video as well. I've Always believed in home made gifts, they come from the heart ❤️💕 Ya know, Hello Mr. Austin and Olive too 🙏 Have a Great Evening ✨✨✨
I love making vanilla. I have 3 bottles now sitting for 4 years now, one will be opened for Christmas cooking. Higher the proof of alcohol the better vanilla. We also give them as Christmas gifts as well. Enjoyed the video.
I always do baskets of baked goods and treats, ld love to do this as well! Does it have to sit that long before you use it though?
Most recipes recommend 2-6 months :)
@@thepressleygirls Thank you!
I also have bottles of vodka steeping with vanilla beans and every year I begin the next bottle and move the beans from the oldest bottles into the newest ones. I usually leave one or two beans in the bottle just to ensure it keeps it’s flavour. And I just keep making another every year or six months when I can afford to buy another bottle.
@@leannekenyoung That’s great 😀
I JUST Bought the SAME Vanilla beans and am making my own homemade Vanilla!!! The store prices are SHOCKING!!😊👍👍
I will be making this for gifts this Christmas. Thank you for making it look so simple.
You are so welcome!
Personally, I like to remove several ounces from the glass vodka bottles and then add the beans directly, and occasionally adding more vodka or beans as the need dictates. I have used the same bottle and mixture for several years. Vanilla is good in cooked cereals and some hot beverages as well. Excellent tutorial, thanks for posting! Blessings of Peace! South Carolina
I knew I wasnt the only one who l useful things . I love coffee cups and kitchen towels. Best thing I ever got was a Tupperware honey stick . For honey. And a tiny wisk
Thanks for watching ☺️
Beautiful 🥰❤️
getting ready to make my 1st batch of vanliia so easy
I started vinegar in August. 1 purchased 2 Oz swing top bottles and printed little canvas bags. These are a special gift. I made preserved pears from our trees, and will make a layered Mason jar with dry ingredients for a pear cobbler. This will be a cute arrangement with a thrift store basket or cake pan. and a recipe for preserved pear cobbler. Good for neighbors teachers and my daughters.
That was a great idea and surprisingly simple, vanilla is awesome. You seem a lot like myself, I’m always thinking of things to make around the house because I find joy in making something myself. A long time ago I told Brandi I had an idea, she had that concerned look. I said I think I could take light corn syrup and ferment it and make some shine, she doubted me but it worked. Love the videos your family is very creative and your soap is the best. God bless.
❤️🙏 thank you! God bless y’all!
Thank you and God bless you
Same to you!
I make vanilla. You have a wonderful start and so glad your sharing.
I have been making vanill extract for over two yrs and have learned what I started out doing was incorrect.
The 6 beans should work fine because the liquid in the jar is dispersed and you have less alchohol in the jar then you would have without the beans.
Rule of thumb 1oz(which is 9/10beans) per 8 oz of alchohol. It is also the fda standard to call it pure vanilla extract.
There is many debates on how long you let the jars sit for to be ready.
I personally have found you need more the 6month to a yr before it is ready.
There is a gentleman who uses the canning vacuum seal on a food saver. He will break the seal every so many weeks, reseal it. It causes the beans to expand and release more oil. He can have a finshed extract in 4 to 6 months. He knows when it done when he pulls a sample bean in a test tube and the alchohol stays clear. (His way is to much work for me).
I am also giving away vanilla as Christmas(it's how I started making it) gifts this yr and it exciting to see people faces when you said you made it.
Good luck.
Okay! Thank you so much for sharing with me :) it’ll be Christmas before we know it!
Yes, I have made vanilla extract....in fact, tonight I started a new 8 oz. bottle of it. I've given bottles to friends, my sister, our niece. It's a great gift !
Wow great gift and so simple and everyone loves vinnilla going to give it ago thank you corrie x
Seeing your video reminded me that I purchased vanilla beans a while back to make some homemade vanilla extract…gotta get it done…!!!!!
Yes!
I made and gave Vanilla to all my family this year.
Nice!
what a sweet idea!
My Mama & I are getting ready to do this, but what a great idea you had to give away small 4 oz. bottles of the vanilla extract to family & friends, for Christmas! Thanks for the lovely idea.
Thank you for your very detailed video an step by step tutorial on how to make the best vanilla. It really helped ive seen many videos but yours is the best ❤
On November 20, 2020 I bought a 6-quart Instant Pot. The very first thing I made in it was vanilla extract in four pint jars. I am down to my last jar, so I will make another batch next month. I think I will give the vanilla extract as gifts for Mother's Day this year. Thanks for the idea.
Your hair is really pretty today! I have made vanilla using the same method. I agree, the best Christmas presents are those made with love.
I am working on my first batch. I started 2 months ago.. I don’t think I paid too close of attention cause I didn’t split my vanilla beans. The mixture isn’t very dark. I can’t decide if I need to open it up or not to split the beans!!! Thank you for this video! You did a great job with it.
Thank you for putting the truth out for the world to see about what the true meaning of Christmas is. I love homemade vanilla I think it is way better than store bought. Love your videos I really love hearing you and your sister sing ❤ 💕
Thank you!
I made some homemade vanilla about four years ago and since it was just for me I wanted to try it first. I put my vanilla beans in the vodka bottle. I put it up in a back bedroom and forgot about it! Lol, it came out wonderful and I’m still using it. You are so right, it’s very shelf stable.
I've never had or used any homemade vanilla. What a 'special and yummy Christmas gift! Thank you ❤
Ya just got it love ❤ the Pressley girls!
God bless you my friend. My Mother did when I was young.
I love this idea for gifts...TFS.
Love this ! That is awesome and simple, and natural ! Thanks for sharing this! I love gifts that are practical and useful , those are the best kind and if someone makes it , well that just makes it very special! Thanks Corie ! God bless...🙏❤
This is a genius idea, Corie! And it makes so much!!!! Thank you very much for teaching us how to make the extract. God bless you!
❤️ it's great to see young people doing "old-fashioned" things. 😋
Awesome video beautiful lady! God bless you, and your family.
Sounds good to me I will try this one I've got lots of family that cook's with vanilla
Hope you enjoy it 🤓
Im going to try this!!
Glad I came across your channel. Trying this recipe with my sister. Thank you.
I just made vanilla for Christmas gifts yesterday!!
