I think I found an easter egg. There's a picture of an elephant with the rider on his back (0:40, 3:27). It's the only picture among all those empty frames on the walls. I think it could be a nod to the Sudden Desire lyric "Take the elephant by the hand and hold it/it's cruel to tame a thing that don't know its strength". I googled "elephant and rider" and found about a theory from psychologist Jonathan Haidt about two parts of the psyche: the Elephant is instinct, strong and impulsive, the Rider is the rational part and they need to cooperate to live well.
@@pamxxpam2410 I think it was only used to confirm the reference that the video does to the theory. You can see such thing in the videos from Florence and the Machine's "How Big How Blue How Beautiful" era, or even Tove Lo's "Fairy Dust" short film: there is always two Florences, two Toves in a symbol of duality during the process of healing - in this case multiple Hayleys.

She dances a lot in their concerts, yes 💕 This is just choreographed thing and it's refreshing to see her move like that with some demons as her back up dancers 😁
In her interview with Zane, she specifically talks about trying to be more in touch with her feminine side. That she has always been aware of and accepts her masculine but has struggled with accepting her feminine nature. Because it can be "dirty," or "disgusting" but also "beautiful." She said the feminine side of her being is "natural" nature. So, clay, mud, spice, floral, tree bark, re-birth, etc. All things that aren't really looked at or appreciated for their beauty, but are still beautiful none the less. She also went into detail about going home and having a completely empty house, aside from lawn chairs and a mattress. (empty picture frames on the walls in this video). Also, how her dog, is the reason she chose to stay alive. Because he is always there for her, she could never willingly leave him. I feel like this video is in direct reflection with some of the inner struggles she expressed in that interview. And I'm here to say. *HELL YES GIRL* you are cinnamon. Sugar, spice and every thing nice. I feel like all of the sides dancing together, choreographed is a good note on her own duality. Everyone has multiple "edges"? to their personality. She is finally trying to rationalize and accept her own differences. It is fucking beautiful, and authentic and something I think that every one on earth has struggled with at some point in their life. She is learning how to nurture, her own nature. No worries Hayley. "On the walls of my home There are signs that I'm alone I keep on every light Talk to my dog, he don't mind." I remember when Hayley said that the reason why she's still alive is because of her dog. :(
Being afraid of yourself, your demons and depression because that isn’t you, it’s something triggered that you’re now suffering from by the trauma of something like a break up. A way that I coped with depression is practicing acceptance. I feel like this is what this video is about. Embracing your sadness instead of being weakened by it. Thank you Hayley, your music and videos make me not feel alone in my own battle with depression
I was having such a hard time vibing to this initially with the awkward and choppy drum beat but then I realized that the music was building on top of itself and I was like OOOOH SHIIIIT
She was scared with her thoughts. She thought she would drown (hence the bath tub scene). But when she faced her fear, she learned how to dance with them. It brought a whole new her to life. But then again, this is just my interpretation.
I like this. When Paramore’s After Laughter came out I was in a very dark place and then following that for about two years. But I feel like I’ve learned to live with my fears instead of being immobilized from them.
Yes, like a Caterpillar completing their metamorphosis and shedding their skin, only to become a beautiful butterfly, free and flying. Hatching from a cocoon, and shedding their old skin, in order to become something better.
As a musician stand point, the music really follws through with the video as well. In the beginning, its very distored, and actually sort of hard to listen for a good rhythm/pattern. Which is odd, especially since that was the majority of the song. The only place where it was somewhat on time/ had a proper rhythm was when the dog was shown. However, when she reached the tub scene it was totally different. The music instead comes together sort of like ber come together with her demons and in actuality the music instead of having dark undertones like tbe beginning has a funk-pop sound. Probably meaning that although she still has that melody of darkness, she is capable to cope and be happy.
@@akoc18 Hayley a few days ago - "When i got to the house/location for the shoot i noticed how many things in it reminded me of the Brand New Eyes era and I just embraced it."
Every time I feel down or lonely I always come back to this song… Because I relate to this so much. Being afraid of your own solitude/isolation and then it grows on you until you end up loving every minute of it. ❤
Love this side, my bad -- THIS PART -- of her. This is a grown woman reconciling with herself, without a man, without anyone, having to validate her. As we all should naturally be. Really truly enjoyed this video. Keep doing your thing, Hay ❤️
Pasha Daprix why are you so pissy. The point of music is how it relates to you, the emotions it evokes in YOU. She’s just reflecting on how this piece makes her feel. Not saying it’d all about her. Go be a bitch elsewhere lol
when she started dancing i literally realized i had forgot who TF she was. like we know colorful dancey hayley from paramore concerts but these past music videos really have shown a newer deeper side to her and i bet it's intentional! maybe in this funk season of her life she forgot who she is and her dancing with all the different parts of her represents this recognition. who knows! anyway very cool!!!!
I actually love how they focused on the dog in this video when she was running away from those "things" 01:30. Either 1) they just wanted to showcase the dog cuz of course. Or 2) it was like the dog wasnt afraid of those things. Like it was a part of her. Or it was her. The dog didnt treat the things like it was an intruder. It wasnt even protecting hayley from them. Cuz the dog was like, "what are you running from? These things are what you want but are afraid to face. These things ARE you." or 3) i could be looking too much into this :/
When I saw the video for the first time I noticed the same thing: if the dog didn't react, it really wasn't a bad thing. I did think that the "things" was her fears... but in the end of the video I realiced they were part of her.
Exactly, they’re emotions and personal demons. If it’s the house, then maybe it’s the past or associations with what she tried to will home to be. So when she finally starts dancing with the reality of those demons, she’ve come to terms with it and her emotions.
thank you for this, i couldn't figure out what the meaning of cinnamon as a lyric was, since cinnamon is a masculine spice and the song is about femininity :)

She is a good dancer, I love how she dances, she transmits me happiness and that is why she is my favorite artist despite everything that has happened and not knowing her, she is seen to be a very strong woman and that is why I admire her so much.
So you saw your past selves and records as a burden that followed you, unable to blossom and try something new because people were expecting that... but you realized they are as much part of you as anything else you endured and survived. That pain, the survival, past versions of ourselves and future expectations... they define us. I can definitely see the influence of your previous music in Petals for Armor, but it is also so new. I loved the album Hayley. It is not Paramore, it's not anything else. It's you and it's nice to meet you!! I the stories in the album represent most female 30year olds souls, flowers withered by love and its use, abuse, disappointment, betrayal and judgement. All the while trying to mend scars AND taking control again of their lives.
no but seriously YES THIS SONG. i think she said in her recent interview that she was nervous about releasing this song but it's good hayley. don't worry we love it.
My interpretation of this is that it’s all in her head hence why the dog didn’t run when she did they simply just looked confused when she ran. Also at 2:40 it shows that it’s all in her head as she’s interacting with one and for a split second it shows she’s all alone. When alone you’re with your thoughts more
This is so thought-provoking- Took me on a journey. The "Ahhh, oooh"s sound like what it sounds like to explore your own soul, or to feel a breath of fresh air coming out of yourself when you're finally being authentic with yourself in a moment. All of this together is mind-blowing and very lovely.
When she said talk to my dog, he don't mind I just remembered interview that she said After AL tour Alf was the only thing that she had a reason to live. Because he was waiting at home for her. I'm like 😭😭😭
It's crazy to think this is the same edgy punk rock girl that wrote legendary albums like Riot! all those years ago!
Exactly!!! I'm sure that's just the meaning of the video ☺️❤️✨
This satisfies my needs for always wanting a serious dance number from Hayley. God bless

She was scared with her thoughts. She thought she would drown (hence the bath tub scene). But when she faced her fear, she learned how to dance with them. It brought a whole new her to life.
But then again, this is just my interpretation.
thank you
I like this. When Paramore’s After Laughter came out I was in a very dark place and then following that for about two years. But I feel like I’ve learned to live with my fears instead of being immobilized from them.
Nice Faye. Simple, yet insightful😉

Love this side, my bad -- THIS PART -- of her. This is a grown woman reconciling with herself, without a man, without anyone, having to validate her. As we all should naturally be.
Really truly enjoyed this video. Keep doing your thing, Hay ❤️
It's also giving off Feist vibes, which is NOT a bad thing! ❤️❤️
I love how Taylor also wrote this song and Joey is hyping it up like nobody’s business. It’s awesome the guys are so supportive of her solo career
Joey played on the song too!
Not everything is about you.
Well also Taylor produced it...the mixed version of this song is a tribute to his skill.
taylor produced it!
Pasha Daprix why are you so pissy. The point of music is how it relates to you, the emotions it evokes in YOU. She’s just reflecting on how this piece makes her feel. Not saying it’d all about her. Go be a bitch elsewhere lol
I started off with, "I'm not sure if I like this". Then the further I got into the song I became more in love with it!
when she started dancing i literally realized i had forgot who TF she was. like we know colorful dancey hayley from paramore concerts but these past music videos really have shown a newer deeper side to her and i bet it's intentional! maybe in this funk season of her life she forgot who she is and her dancing with all the different parts of her represents this recognition. who knows! anyway very cool!!!!
It's like cyndi lauper but with more symbolistic

Petals for armor is everything I didn't know I needed
I actually love how they focused on the dog in this video when she was running away from those "things" 01:30. Either 1) they just wanted to showcase the dog cuz of course. Or 2) it was like the dog wasnt afraid of those things. Like it was a part of her. Or it was her. The dog didnt treat the things like it was an intruder. It wasnt even protecting hayley from them. Cuz the dog was like, "what are you running from? These things are what you want but are afraid to face. These things ARE you." or 3) i could be looking too much into this :/
I paused on that too, interesting take
When I saw the video for the first time I noticed the same thing: if the dog didn't react, it really wasn't a bad thing. I did think that the "things" was her fears... but in the end of the video I realiced they were part of her.
exactly!
Exactly, they’re emotions and personal demons. If it’s the house, then maybe it’s the past or associations with what she tried to will home to be. So when she finally starts dancing with the reality of those demons, she’ve come to terms with it and her emotions.

My interpretation of this is that it’s all in her head hence why the dog didn’t run when she did they simply just looked confused when she ran. Also at 2:40 it shows that it’s all in her head as she’s interacting with one and for a split second it shows she’s all alone. When alone you’re with your thoughts more
It sounds like she's saying "Send em in'" instead of cinnamon, and for some reason they both make sense metaphorically speaking.
