We caught this act as early as 1978 I believe in Wisconsin caught them about ten times since than. I caught tim O'Brien playing solo in a Irish bar north side of Chicago must have been twenty years ago
They did an episode of Austin City Limits years ago that we just loved. They were Hot Rize and Red Knuckles. It was so great. We recorded it and played it over and over. Dwight Yokum must have been a fan. I can't find that episode on the internet though. That's amazing.
Jörgen Ingmann's version of Jerry Lordan's instrumental "Apache" on ATCO Records hit no. 1 in US Singles' list in 1961 was largely due to EMI's omission to publish The Shadows' original 1960 version in time for USA. (from wikipedia)
You might be on to something! I was there for this show as I hit Winterhawk 4 years straight and Red Knuckles always closed out Saturday night. I remember Allison Krause closing out Friday night when she was a teenager... 👍
Up in Manitou Springs I was huntin' for Red to sign the lp they had someone sell me. I saw Tim strolling around and I asked if he had seen Red so as to sign my LP. Tim said Red might be still in the hot tub back stage but that he, Tim, was authorized to sign for Red anytime! That was real neighborly and Red should be thankful.
I was fortunate enough to be at this festival and also fortunate enough to seethe late, great Charles Sawtelle play. Great times

It would be awesome to be able to find it. I miss seeing them.
We saw Red and the boys in Lowville Ky in 1979 @ the ol KFC fest for the 1st time--Have seen them 20x since from T-ride to Asheville
Oh? You think two names is one band?! I don't think so. Hot Rize sucks. Red can play circles around those doughboys.
Love the pass at Peter Rowan, complete with Wendell yodeling.

Red is a younger Tim O'Brien, bluegrass icon. The music starts around 3:45.
I think Red Knuckles and Hot Rize are actually the same people.
I can't prove it though.
