Great song great band
Mark Lemon here. I like the video. I am moved by the amount of views we have received over yhe years, the melancholy total of my lot is that I am the last living member of the Robespierres and early line up.
I am responsible for the out of tune guitar, the track is shambolic but...X
There is a Silver Street in Birmingham, near where we often recorded. This song was done at Woodbine studios in Leamington. I think that guitar was the first thing I ever recorded, aged 17. I mentioned to Nikki years later that it was out of tune, he said others had said the same but he hadn't noticed! Ironically I now deliberately play out of tune on the Village Green Machine stuff.
We all just did what we wanted musically, these were of course the days of Wham, Culture Club...they had voices and the odd good song but the music was so cheap and flimsy. I remember meeting Nikki at Dave's house, he was wearing these rock & roll shoes and kind of posed around, the way he arranged his feet.
That vocal intro is me, a double tracked 3 part harmony. I just went for it, again, it was my 1st time in a studio, and it was a place where number 1 records were made. Nikki was surprised, and lifted the harmonies out of the track, putting them at the start of the LP.
Mike Scott was around, he really taught me how to play bass. I sat there with him and Nikki, and said forthrightly that Nikki ought to get someone else to sing, a suggestion they repudiated with surprising politeness.
Then there was the time I was sent to meet Tyla from Dogs D'Amour at Leamington station. He looked the part, he was a mate of Dave's. He steadfastly refused to say a word to me.
hey 24 year old from Melbourne- these tunes mean a lot to me, thanks man god bless stay strong
Hey Mark. This song means more to me than I could possibly explain here and now. Simply said, I adore it. Thank you forever for the out of tune guitar. Take good care and be well.
Seems as though your thankless job will never be given the credit it is due. Never the less, thanks for assisting these poet folk in their living endeavors mate...bless ya.

=====================
NOTHING IS LIKE THIS !!
i moved out from the bible belt, and down to silver street
victoria an oasis in the afternoon the place we always used to meet
the girls there theyre all dressed in powder blue
theyre always crawling through my head
jodie shes as pretty as your mother used to be with her dark lantern stare
you just don’t know
you just don’t know
black velvet jacket and a hat of antique lace
she moved down to silver street
kisses like rings of the purest uncut gold
i couldn’t help but see her face
the girl with the leather in her shoes
shes always crawling through my head
and Jodie she’s as pretty as your mother used to be as pretty your mother used to be
you just don’t know
you just don’t know
i moved out from the bible belt and down to silver street
couldnt help but cry just to see her there the place we always used to meet
the girls there all dressed in powder blue
theyre always crawling through my head
and jodie shes as pretty as your mother used to be as pretty as mother used to be
just as pretty as we used to be
were just as pretty as we used to be
just you and me

Those chords are perfect. I can't thank you enough for them. I've faked my way through Kings and queens, It'll all end up in tears, and Big store at open mics, but had yet to learn that one. Thanks a million!
can somebody provide me with lyrics of this song
I moved out from the Bible Belt, and down to Silver Street
Victoria - an oasis in the afternoon, the place we always used to meet.
The girls there, they’re all dressed in powder blue
They’re always crawling through my head.
Jodie - she’s as pretty as your mother used to be, with her dark latern stare.
You just don’t know,
You just don’t know.
Black velvet jacket and a hat of antique lace
She moved down to Silver Street
Kisses like rings of the purest uncut gold
I couldn’t help but see her face
The girl with the leather in her shoes
She’s always crawling through my head.
And Jodie - she’s as pretty as your mother used to be, as pretty your mother used to be
You just don’t know,
You just don’t know.
I moved out from the Bible Belt, and down to Silver Street
Couldn’t help but cry just to see her there, the place we always used to meet.
The girls there all dressed in powder blue
They’re always crawling through my head.
And Jodie - she’s as pretty as your mother used to be, as pretty as mother used to be.
Just as pretty as we used to be.
We’re just as pretty as we used to be,
Just you and me.
Thank you! I've been looking for this for a long time!
