I like that, no wasted meat on the skin like there would be if you were to separate it from the skin with a filet knife. I've done catfish like that, never occurred to me to try it on any other fish though.
Forgot to ask you do you filet a fully thawed fish or do you like to fillet them a just a little bit frozen? I prefer a little bit frozen not too much? Does it make a difference for you?
