Well the real reason is Nintendo not wanting Mario in too many non-Nintendo platform games. The exact same thing happened back in 2009 for the mobile version of Winter Olympic Games, where it was only Sonic characters (the game was discontinued a long time ago)

I kick so much ass at the trampoline and 400 meter hurdles I’ve made it to the top of the leaderboard almost every time I did either of those. I also exclusively use the boss characters when I replay a stage because I hate that they’re all limited to either one or 2 events
I really like this review. It's fair. Sometimes I see reviews that just compare it to the switch version which I don't find fair. And some people give this only 1 star because of the pay wall which yes I wished sega warns the player before you start playing but I prefer this way more than advetisements everywhere
I recently got into phone games cuz work has been beyond dead and I need something to fill the time (there's only so many times you can clean the same surfaces). And man this game is so surprisingly good.

For other mobile-exclusive Sonic games, Sonic Forces Speed Battle is also fairly solid. (Yes, I know the subtle was dropped ages ago to just be called "Sonic Forces (mobile), but it will always be Speed Battle to me, darn it!)
