A lot of stories will try to go out of their way to make the villain sympathetic, and while that's perfectly fine, it's not the only kind of villain. Crimson is a "pure evil" irrational antagonist, one that's unpredictable, unstable, and petty. There's no redeeming factor for him, he claimed to be fighting for Cascadia, but literally orangified it. He's used to always being the best pilot in any battle, and the fact that another pilot, let alone a mercenary pilot, even comes close is infuriating for him. He's a character that you can actually hate, there's no "oh the federation is keeping his family hostage, you should feel bad for killing him" or something. He's the opposite of that "just because you are a bad guy doesn't mean you have to be a bad guy" meme. He's a bad guy, who's a genuinely bad guy.

Not to mention, the portrayal - those characters are usually chaotic, crazy people who want to do bad thing for absurd reasons that no sane human would allow. Or they are just incredibly evil for no good reason. Crimson 1 is an evil psychopath, but honestly - a believable one. He is a person with an enormous ego, who justifies every single action of his no matter how horrific it is. He is in a constant denial of the entire situation and has no self-awaress presumably as a defense mechanism. He found the scapegoat for all his actions in Monarch and now has an obsession with him because he sees him and Hitman as the source of all evil. There is no "higher cause" justification with Crimson, no "the end justify the means". The big evil in project Wingman ain't some pretentious villian, ain't some agent of chaos with no plans beyond ruining everything - it's the best pilot of the Federation with massive schizophrenia, something that is honestly rather down-to-earth. Hell, the Torres Arc in AC7 DLCs is pretty much that idea - heroes who survived wars can become danger to society once that war is over.
People like to make fun of Diplomat's breakdown, but at this point in the game I agreed with him. Crimson's infatuation with pinning everything bad that's happened on Hitman, and more specifically Monarch given all that's happened at that point was frustrating. Especially since you're just trying to stop the bloodshed.
Crimson One has a point...but in the most backwards way possible. Yes, if we are being entirely technical about the situation, Prospero wouldnt have burned if Sicario and Hitman didnt turn up. Their arrival more or less change the entire course of the war by itself, without them the CIF would have folded before any counter attack could be made. But as I said, this is a point in the most backwards way possible. Because it was the choice of the Federation to escalate the conflict with cordium missiles. No one forced them into that.

And then when even that failed to stop Monarch and the Cascadian forces, he blames the destruction on Monarch and Hitman, almost like he's unable to take the weight of what he's done if it was all for nothing. Diplomat snapping back was such a good moment, because it was the frustration I was feeling towards this raving lunatic.

The intros to peacekeeper I meshed 1:1, resulting in a very smooth transition, kind of like Crimson Squadron was scheduled into those engagements. However, with this one, between Consequence of Power (iirc) and Peacekeeper II, Jose makes about 8 beats fit where 6 did previously, which results in a perceived tempo change during the transition. Crimson Squadron really means to not only take control of the situation, but utterly dominate it.

I learned about Project Wingman around the beginning of Russian invasion of Ukraine, and when I heard Crimson 1 blaming the player, the connection instantly clicked- he's JUST like tankies who blame Ukraine for the war.
