Hello Garden Friends 🌼 Todays task was to clear yet more bindweed and creeping thistle. It's a bane on my plot and it's not just mine, it's on everyones!
Doing great Amie and I agree with others pulling it is about the on,y way to weaken it but also the boiling water can help. I don’t have bindweed 🤞🤞 but I do suffer with mares tail. If you have a spot clear put something in it will encourage you to keep going. It can get disheartening when all you seem to do is weed. Hopefully this week graces you with sunshine and warmer weather, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
Keep pulling the bindweed and thistle you will weaken the root every time and eventually it will go, I've almost eradicated it from my no dig plot, this is my third season so keep persevering. New sub👍👌💪😁 I dug all my plot when I first got it and then went no dig when I had the compost.👌👍
Let some bindweed grow, place the growing tips into a plastic bag, don't pull it out, add some herbicide woody weed killer works, seal the bag and leave, hopefully this works, creeping thistle a teaspoon of salt in the centre if in your pathways etc. No salt or herbicide where you can plant vegetables. Our ancestors dug them out!!!
Did a spray job for someone who had weedmat down in the play area, we lifted the mat up and there was masses of matted bindweed still under the weedmat, which they had put fown 10 plus years earlier.
I've come to accept that there will always be bindweed present on the plot 😑 I think just keep pulling them and they'll eventually get weaker 😅 Your plot is looking great!! 😍😍😍
You'll get there with the weeds, they'll get weaker and weaker. Peas and Broad beans are looking good!
I boil the kettle and make a cuppa and pour the rest of hot water on paths ect without crops on that kills the weeds

I would plant the peas and use the wire grill on edge behind the Polly tunnel as a climbing frame
What a lovely plot you have there, Amie! You look like you're doing a good job! ♡
Bloomin bindweed, very satisfying when you pull and it comes up in one 😃

The big leaf weed is Hog weed.
Would a cover crop over winter help? One lik mustard that put chemicals in the ground to kill other stuff? I don't know! lol
