All you saying the UK taxpayer shouldn't be paying for this well they aren't. The Crown estates which are everything the RF owns makes around 200 million a year, from that the queen takes 40 million which covers the cost of maintenance and the salaries of the royal household. The other 160 million goes straight to the UK government. Also, dont forget the amount of money they make for the UK economy all the thousands of tourists coming over and spending money on crap...

Of all the trips I've made to the UK, culminating in an overseas assignment to London for a while before moving to France, I've only ever been driven past Buckingham Palace in a taxi a handful of times. I've never stood at the gate or on the Mall or anything like that. I've never been to Windsor Castle, either, which I'm more interested in visiting but just haven't made the time to do.

Actually, Versailles and BP are about the same size. They both have around 700 rooms. Winter Palace has about 1,000.
