Watched the interview, and is truly sad, but that’s the reality of drug LIFE. I been there and can relate to rick. BUT? He seen the light of life. May he Rest In Peace and long live his songs and the people that help him through his time in need. Long Live Tower Of Power!!!
It is so great that you documented this man's story. There is no one that could sing that song better than Rick. He carried with him not only a fabulous voice but a power that was felt.
I am 64 years old and I am just getting to know Rick Stevens. I knew the song (You’re Still A Young Man), but I never knew who was singing the lead. I only knew Lennie Williams, so l really needed this history lesson.
He had a story as well as talent. He changed his life. “Forty years, clean and sober.” Humble as heck. And, credit where it is due, I thought she did a good job interviewing him. She came prepared. She read transcripts from his trial. He knew his history too. Jerry Brown was the governor when he went into prison and he was the governor when he “left prison. “
I met him in G quad while I was listening to I'm still a young man he stopped and said hey that's my song and from there on we became really good friends
My name is Edward Morra I serve time at CMC eyemed Rick Stevens there he's my homeboy they said that he never song a song while he was in prison so I spoke to him at CMC any song and performed but would not perform any Tower power songs
As many times I walked B yard while working at mule creek hearing you sing I couldn’t find the heart to approach you and tell you I’m Ray granddaughter you murdered my grandfather I didn’t get a chance to meet him because you shot him dead and now your dead and I didn’t get closure I can only hear the memories from his only two kids my mom and aunt Valerie and Tresa Wickliffe about how my grandfather was. It’s conflicting because listening to your music I have mixed emotions. You killed my grandfather and the story isn’t told completely straight for the media but my uncle Donnie and drake told me
Met this man before he died we talk like we knew for a long time talk about his life like we understood this man but all and all he was just a man loving his music wasnt no hard cold killer in if seen his record if met nice sincere man trying to survive like everyone else just had bad incident but took care of influence would ruin life had death penalty but by luck or upper power forgiving him abolish it so gas chamber say goodbye we was surprised why you coolest dude would think you a murder he was a lucky man very lucky I think will make Hollywood make his story of Rick Stevens I think would be blockbuster if found right director writer automatically be a hit very good story I think everyone should hear his story best one I heard give 2 thumbs I didn't see it heard only from the man very good storyteller...has everything on it...lol
He got out and I didn't even know but I guess that's the way it was supposed to be I became a man of God while I was in there and I know he saw what my story was it would happen when I was there with them I love him very much and miss him
Actually after he shot those 3 people and the police were looking for him they grabbed Lenny Williams instead, because someone said the lead guy from TOP shot those people.
BIG error in religion. That was forever, one of the major revelations of the downside of religion. Yea, I know someone can say they didn't pull the switch, but they DID have a hand in the execution. Either they were witnesses or judges or guards or something that aided those executions. Things like the clear cut commandment in the bible about 'thou shalt not kill'. I have seventy years behind me and I never agreed with the death penalty. Totally barbaric. And mankind is supposed to be the most civilized and intelligent of life forms on the planet?
RIP Rick Stevens, you touched me with your song.
One of the best singers Tower of Power ever had - like the song says "You're Still A Young Man " -rest in peace, Rick 😊😊😊😊

Why haven’t they made a documentary or movie about him? What a story. Every musician I’ve ever known talks about Tower of Power with awe.

His story should be a movie.

Great reason to ABOLISH the death penalty!!
