Interesting essay - I think the Willow character (played beautifully by Britt Ekland) is a representation of Mother Earth and the comment about willow at 6:30 misses the point - yes she is trying to seduce him but not to tempt him in a shallow sense but to save him from his fate -no longer a virgin and therefore no longer able to be a sacrifice thereby reinforcing the goddess and in direct opposition to summerisle - juxtaposing the “good” and “evil” of the film

That's a really interesting insight! Personally, and as stated, I've always read Willow's attempted seduction as an test of Sgt. Howie's 'worthiness' of sacrifice - and not in a shallow sense but as an ultimate decider of his resolve. That him being able to repel her advances is ultimately and unfortunately what doomed him. I like the idea of her being in opposition to Summerisle though. It's food for thought!

@@VideoNastyPresents thank you - I think it’s probably part of the magic of the film that we all see things in a different way and it makes for an interesting discussion piece - I guess I’ve always seen Willow as the good on the island even tho she is part of the plan because if Howie had partaken shall we say then it would’ve changed the whole execution of the plan - that’s my take anyhow

were you as impressed by DON'T LOOK NOW if youve seen it (released as a double bill with THE WICKER MAN in 1973) I know its not to do with Paganism & sacrifice, but it is equally as impressive in it's own way, I would have loved to have seen them together at the time, And they are both Art house cult classics
