Hans Niemann - The boy from USA who became an IM without a coach for 3 years

  • Hans Niemann is the top seed in the under-16 boys. With an Elo of 2439, he is quite a strong player. But the surprising thing is that Niemann is a self taught player and has had no coaches since the last three years.
    We get a glimpse of what a fine talent this youngster is as he rattles out one variation after another in his game against Oliver Stork in round 3. He saved himself by the skin of his teeth with some accurate defense. Over to Hans Niemann!

    If you need serious coaching to become a GM you aren't good enough to be a strong GM (Hikaru Nakamura)
    I like Naka's brashness sometimes because it also comes with a good dose of honesty - a very rare commodity in this PC world..
    If you aren't good enough (or motivated enough) to self teach yourself to GM norms, then it will be very difficult to move to the next level.

      Disagree great coaching can take you beyond your level and elimanate conformational bias. Why does every great athlete at there top level have a coach ? In such a mentally taxing activity of chess in these days of computers u need a coach . when I are at the top level a good coach understands your competition . the coach can tell you practice a b and c in the hotel without him you will waste precious off time not preparing for the next day but figuring out what to study .

      to be fair magnus is world champion, he (at this time) was just an IM. Of course magnus would defeat him, but theyre very unlikely to play together anyway so why does it matter? Its like someone who plays in La Liga league 2 would be rolled by Barca, well sure, but they wouldnt play together anyway

    • @dertyp6833

      I meant with my comment, that Niemann's skills are godlike and unreachable for average chessplayers (I mean, I can't even remember my latest chessmove for one second), and then there are still people like Magnus.

    • @benschmitt7035
      @benschmitt7035 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dertyp6833 oh yeah i see what you mean. To the average person Hans is fucking exceptional, then you have people like Magnus who can completely roll even him, which is just wild to think about.
      To be fair though, Hans is now a grandmaster, so he is really a cut above most and could maybe hold his own against Magnus a few years down the line

    Why talk about 3 years? It's not like he started from scratch. Here's proof. 1:14 "I played a line that I learned when I was 8." If he was born in 2003 that would mean as of 2011 he was playing (and quite possibly earlier). He is what now? 16? Approaching 16? That is at least ~8 years of play since he played this line. So, no, he didn't just become an IM in 3 years.

      @marcususa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@artifactmoralltach2949 Then what is the point in saying three years? Carlsen hasn't had a coach either. The implication is that YES he did learn it from scratch without any help. The truth is he had at least 5 years of possible coaching, and then 3 years of playing afterwards. You can take any kid these days, give them 5 years of coaching to bring them to a title. He shouldn't have needed those three years.
