This song gets me every time. I don't think anyone can ever match Nanci Griffith (R.I.P.) singing & playing this song in Boston, but Carson McKee comes very, very close. Thanks Carson!
Carson you’re a throwback, I’m 64, grew up listening to folk in the 60’s, you capture that time with an amazing vocal and guitar sound. Everything of yours that I’ve listened to is spot on. Thanks for your artistry.
I am taken back by the breadth and depth of your musical influences. Nanci Griffith! Absolutely love this, but it is more than enjoying a beautiful performance. You are keeping important art alive and even providing it a resurrection. It is meaningful to me.
@@belascialoja4812 It means “Original Gangster.” Some say “Old Gangster.” The OP is referring to those who’ve been fans since the beginning. These guys have been recording amazing tunes for a while.
I have loved this song and Nanci Griffith for decades. Your version is fantastic. Just fantastic. More of her beautiful songwriting anytime...please and thx
Terrific, Carson. I'm an old buzzard musician who lived in Austin all through the 70's. Clark, Van Zandt, Foley, Griffith, and others were my heroes. Wonderful to find a talented youngster who is interested in all this music. It was a golden age for good lyrics.
Carson your singing and your song choices are 💕👍👏 Thank you so much for these lovely gifts of music. Was so fortunate to drive Nancy Griffith and her band at our local folk festival a few years back. She was so kind and endearing. Through song and story she in her one of kind voice helped a very soggy crowd come out from under their tarps and celebrate the joy of music in the rain!
Absolutely great! With covers of Guy Clark, Tom Waits, Blaze Foley, and Nancy Griffith. You are showing your love for classic Americana music, or what they used to call country music they don’t play on the radio. Keep the great music coming.
I've watched most of your videos, and they are consistently beautiful. You have a real talent for the balance between re-creation and re-invention that any good cover requires. I really hope that Nanci Griffith got to hear this cover before she passed; I'm sure she would have loved it.
You may not be on the A list of singers in the world but you and josh are all I listen to a have one playlist on Spotify and that is the other favorites I put all of yours and josh's and the other favorite into one playlist I am a huge fan I really want to see you perform in England sometime please stay safe in these times and never stop playing because you will always have one fan
I played in a folk trio when in high school. Went on to study music and was never able to follow that dream. It's refreshing to hear your beautiful rendition. It takes me back. What's important to me is your contribution and how it helps to preserve what was the happiest time of my life. Thanks.
Being a huge Nanci G. fan,(and now a huge fan of yours, Carson), and now that she's been gone a year, I do appreciate you playing her music. And I'm sure you could many of her other masterpieces justice too! Thanks so much, Carson!!❤️🌹🙏
You have taken your God-given talent.put your heart and soul into it and catapulted yourself into the heart of everyone who has ever heard you sing and play.I hope you feel as much love coming back to you as you most surely send out. Thank you Carson.
The thing about folk music and all the other good songs Carson sings is that they have something to say. Growing up I was attracted to folk music and songs that had a message. I did not always hold the same view but at least the song said something. It was not just something to dace to. As I've grown older my understanding and views have changed and solidified. There is still something powerful about one acoustic guitar and one good voice. I've never made any comments on Carson's songs that I would consider political or religious. Yet, songs with meanings invite response. The same freedom that provides for songs like this to be heard should be the same freedom that allows those who have another opinion to express themselves. With that in mind, there is a line in this song that goes to my heart. "They'll never take our native soil".... So here is the feeling that stirs in me about this line (please, no hate mail, you are free to have your opinion also) Growing up as a boy in America we said the pledge of allegiance each morning in school. We were influenced to love our country - our native soil and the freedom it provides us. We were taught to respect those who lost their lives fighting for that freedom. We were taught to respect others and authority, to work hard, to treat others as we would like to be treated. We learned to say please, thank you, yes sir and yes mam. We were taught to both fear and love God. I see our country headed down a road that will eventually lead to the taking away of our native soil. It will no longer belong to freedom loving people but will become a government controlled state that is ungodly and doomed to failure. I voted early yesterday, exercising my freedom to do so, and voted for those leaders who I believe most support the way of life I grew up with. If you want America as we know it to survive, I hope you will vote the same. If you have a difference opinion, please feel free to express it - but can you do so without disrespect ?
Nanci Griffith, another of my favorite singers and she passed earlier this year. Wonderful cover of this song, you certainly put your heart and soul into your music you sing and play.
Carson McKee, you and the other guy are doing more for the music than you may ever know. Technically superb, simply expressed, and smooth and fine. I used to think the music had died, it has not. Keep on with wat you do. You and the Josh, and your brother, and those people you collect and attract. They all make me feel really fine.
Carson, this is beautiful... just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your music. So glad I discovered you and Josh a few years ago. I’m listening to this for the third time today already, just letting the world melt away for a few peaceful minutes. May you and your loved ones stay safe & well!
Absolutely Brilliant. I love Nanci... One Fair Summer Evening is in my top 5 albums. You are a very talented musician and did that beautiful song justice.
Nice... just came upon this... like sooo many things by you.... TY Trying to broaden my own repertoire. Will be adding this to the many things I will never remember but want to play...LOL... It's tough getting old. As always... Thanks for the music Matt Hudson Valley NY
I grew up with the old Popping Johnny (John Deere) and I've seen the struggle then at a whim, loss of whole farms. It's these kinds of struggles which prepare us to weather out this kind of storm and come out strong on the other side. And it's voices like yours, with good, solid, clear music and sound - than can be understood and related too with a clear mind without need of a drug sodden trance - to help show our way clear, definite direction. Music like yours is sought after. A voice like yours with your music will go far. But stay yourself. You'll always be glad you did. Awesome voice, awesome music and an awesome song. Blessings.
I can remember the first time I heard Nancie and fell in love with her music. Miss her so! Nice cover Carson you play and sing so well. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you-tube.
The quality of your vocal is exceptional. You convey the emotion in the lyrics so well. I instantly wanted to listen to this performance again. Love your version of this song, Carson.

You more than did justice to this. Nanci would approve. Thanks for keeping her music alive. My god she could write a song.
Thank you Carson. The warmth and love you project with your wonderful performances is the balm the world needs now, more than ever.
Carson, I don't know what to say anymore. The more I listen to you, the more I fall in love with your voice
Stay safe!
Had to come back and revisit this song again with the passing of Nancy. You sure did a superb version of this gem of a song. Rest in Peace Nancy.
