Besides the simple fact that you animals are obsessed with whatever ship we've seen the least of, this ship definitely represents some key differences in how Star Citizen will play, and that's exciting for a lot of different reasons. What's yours?
I love how the Polaris looks to be a very promising flagship for a small group of friends, who want to play a vast variety of combat related PvE content. -It has decent durability to survive against low intensity threats -It has okay turrets to defend itself, or handle NPC pirates on bounties etc. -It has huge torpedoes to take down bigger ships, or possibly even airstrike ground bases with -It can support players with food, air, water, beds, and medical facilities -It provides good space to store a ton of interesting FPS equipment -It provides a ton of space to store loot from possible ground missions or improvised raids on outposts -It can do very long distance travel -Having huge sensors, it can spot content that might have been missed without such tools -A fighter bay allows dogfighting for any aspiring ace pilots, or the ship slot could be used for a utility ship -The ground vehicle bay allows for ground support vehicles And all without really needing that big of a crew. Like ideally, if you can link some of the turrets or even put some on AI controls, you won't really need more than 3-5 people to keep the ship running and flying. One pilot, one engineer/mechanic, and one guy to manage the turrets. Any more players can use the fighters, add gunners, add mechanics, etc. to make things smoother. But if you can AI control some turrets, and do what some ships like the reclaimer and the crusader cargo ship has stock, which is linking multiple turrets to shoot at what one main turret is firing at. That way, your turret potential suffers somewhat, but you can still use all of them without dedicating like 5 people just to sit in their individual turrets.
First proper combat ship with Carrier capacities AND on top it has relative low crew requirements. So naturally my squadron has now like 3 or so of them while we will struggle to crew one properly with fighte escort and all. ;-) Basically it's like a fusion of a Carrack and a 890 jump, just in good. Or a smaller Idris that should be still fun to fly and go into combat with. Though that Kraken is looking gooooood for similar reasons, I hope we can anchor the Kraken so it stays in space even after the owner logs out.
This is gonna be the flagship for my small family and friends org. We may only have 12 members right now, but that means if even half of us get on for some real SC time, this makes for a GREAT ship to live out our small-scale USS Enterprise like fantasies!
It's a Combat-First Capital with all you need in one place and a special focus on countering Vanduul threats. Fighter carrier, repair and rearm, medical facility, brig, chucks unreasonably large explosions at people you don't like. It'll do for Flagship role, guarding the Endeavor, High-end Merc Work, murdering space sharks at all possible opportunities and so forth.
I am really glad they are focusing on the meta being group play. This means I can let someone else grind or pay for the cool ships, and they’ll be hungry for someone like me who is more casual to join in and help out.
In most science fiction, ship class designations over 100 meters long are already standard, and some even go beyond the conventional means. For example, a ship over 300 meters can still be called a corvette. So, in the game "Star Citizen," the Polaris is referred to as a Capital Ship in-game and in CIG terms, but it's only a Corvette Class Ship. The Idris, slightly bigger and wider than the Polaris, is a Frigate Class Ship, and then there's the Javelin, which is a Destroyer Class with fighter-carrying capability. Meanwhile, the Bengal Carrier is not a true Carrier Class at all, but rather a hybridization between a Cruiser Class and a Battlecruiser Class Warship with also fighter-carrying capability. Since "Star Citizen" follows the standard conventional sci-fi ship class designations to its size, weight, and length, it is safe to say that the Bengal is too small to be a Carrier and also 500-600 meters smaller to be a Battlecruiser Ship. Lastly, for the UEE Navy, the Retribution Warship is a Battleship Class Dreadnought Flagship. So anyway if the game developers are going to build bigger ships in the future, it would take a long while to finish as they are not just massive but they need a lot of details to do it.
I think the Kraken has hype for the same reason ST points out the Polaris has hype, not only can it be used for combat but it can also be used as a base of operations, I'd say it's even more so with the Kraken.
Also keep in mind, those 28 torpedoes are S10, and only what is actually "loaded" in the racks.. You will be able to load ammo (and missiles or torps) in your cargo bay... And the Polaris cargo room is directly openly connected to its torpedo room.. I would not be surprised if this puppy can stay in the field with 100 torps ready to launch without going back to base.
I originally bought my Polaris with the intent of making it a flying base that doesn't require the massive crew of an Idris. With base building coming, a flying base may not be so important anymore, so I guess I'm hoping for some interesting patrol missions. Perhaps also as a flagship for fleet operations someday too.
It depends how far you plan to go out and what you do, planets are generally only for crafting and final storage. If you are a short range patrol/bounty hunter, trader or a taxi then you wont need a mobile base but if you have to go out into deep space for exploration or to fly missions against the Vanduul for example you will definetly need a mobile base of some sort.
I'm sorry, but I just cannot take anyone seriously who wants a planetary base over a space base. All it will take is you logging off for 3 days before someone comes around and A2 bombs everything you've worked for off the map. Meanwhile, your Polaris space base is in an unmarked location 5 million miles from anything.
this video is honestly a work of art. it summarizes the purpose of star citizen so fully. and demonstrates your skill as a filmmaker and author. thank you for your effort and bravo! :D
The hall wouldnt be large enough. But also, I think the Expo only shows off ships that we can, or will eventually be able to own. Bengal wont really be ownable the same way that the polaris will be
@@sickmit3481 the Bengal can't actually land, but post S42 release we might get to tour a Bengal at ILW, so we'll be able to see the scale of it docked perhaps. Maybe not though since its hangar is so large it can house multiple Retaliators
@@harabecswurveweathers they better make a big ship that can land because i want to admire it from underneath ^^ the polaris allready surprised me when i was walking around it its such a huge ship no game has ever done anything like this before. Well maybe elite but you cant really enjoy it like in star citizen
I've anticipated the Polaris for a long time. It sits in a nice crew compliment range for a decent sized group of friends of 6-12 people, with the ability to do a decent number of things without being great at any of them (except bombing larger capital ships). I, in particular, anticipate using it for CSAR, patrol, small fleet command, etc. It's absolutely gorgeous in space based on the flybys I've seen so far. It won't be practical to fly all the time, but it's the only other ship besides the Carrack that I really wanted to get (and so I have them both).
@@Strange-Viking Now I get why you say that but hear me out. First and foremost as a solo player I do not intend to use the ship in a combat role at all; nor do I advocate for a solo player to be able to fully utilize the capabilities of the ship... that would defeat the whole point and purpose of multi-crew. What I do want to use the ship for is as a mobile base. Also, for context I am a combat only pilot; I literally have no interest in anything else other than the pew pews, so non-military ships mean nothing to me. In Stanton, if you die it doesn't take that much time to get back to where you died; especially if you took the time to set your respawn point to the system you died in and any ship is capable of going from one end to the other end of the system with little trouble. But as we get more systems in game and they get larger this wont be possible; lets take Pyro as an example. Now I don't plan on going to Pyro since that's where all the PVP assholes will be, but we know Pyro is going to be so large that even something like a Vanguard is not going to be able to go end to end, which is among one of the longest range single seat military craft in game right now. So you die out in Pyro and it will become a real hassle to get back as well as time consuming. Where as having a mobile base like a Polaris would ease that issue; can have a far larger range with the ability to respawn locally, have a smaller craft and ground vehicle to do a variety of missions, an armory, etc. And final point is that with NPC crew, operating the Polaris will be more viable; how viable will be dependent upon how exactly NPCs will work in the game and how it is we issue orders to them and, of course, how much operating all of that as a solo player will cost. But the potential is there.
@@lyonking2223 Agreed, I just hope NPC Crews will work as intended. But the death of a spaceman mechanic (Which is rumored to be coming soon) will be an inhibitor for Solo players, as the consequences of death will be harsh, so having a competent and well organized crew will be vital. Depending on how NPC Crews work, this can be a disadvantage.
Not sure if everyone knows but they said during the ISC that the Polaris will come out during IAE. Like no matter what apparently. It sounded pretty clear.
You mentioned recently that you were worried about putting videos that were comparatively "lower quality" than your other videos but 1. These are still far higher quality that most SC and youtube content and 2. I'm just glad to get more vids from you
You hit the nail on the head for why Im hyped for it. I play in a 5-8 man group, and having a sort of home base platform to stage the game from would be awesome.
I'm so much more excited for "literally everything else this ship does" than I am the size 10 torpedos and the "cap ship killing" gameplay. This video does a great job of explaining why this ship is going to be so good; because of its versatility. I will most definitely be using this as a mobile base in the way lots of 'Carrack-lifers' do now. Don't care how 'efficient' or profitable it is; I just think it would be cool to post up my massive ship somewhere and run bounty missions deploying and rearming a heavy fighter out of it. Carry ammo to restock an Inferno and run solo ERTs from my mobile hangar + can have friends to follow behind and vulture salvage targets/cargo and bring all the loot back to base. The fact it can also support theoretically as many people as I'd want to/could play with at a time is just the cherry on top.
Bought a Polaris when they first announced them, the excitement i feel knowing we'll get it by or before IAE this year is unreal 😍 cant wait to fly this around the verse. The final model looks sooooo much better than i was expecting honestly, this might be the new group ship to replace the Carrack haha
I’ve been drooling over my idris for a long time. Seeing it has made me crazy excited and thinking of the possibility of that ship can be endless. But for so reason seeing the Polaris lately has given me more excitement to use it. I have a big fleet and only really saw myself using the idris mainly. This ship has changed that thought for sure!
I have no idea why I love it so much... I'm really looking forward to seeing if it's a good exploration flagship, we'll see how hard it is to crew the damned thing! Thanks for the vid!
Like every ship, I bought it because the concept art looked dope :) I don't even knwo what the heck I'll do with it except it just looked so awesome in the fake brochure.
It is about damn time to make SC an MMO as there's no longer barriers like SM denying that vision. Let's get that Pyro open. Let's take our org fleets to get around in the new system while being self reliant. Super exciting times ahead and for the first time ever it actually feels like we're getting close.
I don't love the torpedo boat. I love the patrol, SaR, command ship that CIG sold us and still describes this as. I want to do pirate interdictions and long-distance rescues. I didn't and don't want a giant Retaliator.
THANK. YOUUUUU. Sure it'll be great at being a capital buster, but it won't excel at it as it will excel at SaR & BH (especially with version 2.0) & patrols. With is cap radar she'll be a top tier patrol vessel
@@jrzgcwrocks The torpedoes - and therefore its role in large fleet combat - is and always has been only one facet of its design. It's always been described as a quick response patrol vessel for SaR, patrol, and fleet command (as you pointed out, it has a capital radar that ships like the Idris and Kraken don't). In my eyes, it shines brightest in those smaller roles, and I most want to see it paired with a Perseus (which perfectly covers its weaknesses in armament) and a Hammerhead or carrier Liberator to help screen fighters for use in patrolling and org operations.
I'm almost as excited for its release this november as I was for Elden Ring's DLC over the last two years. The Polaris is looking like it'll be done for IAE.
"a long-distance vessel" -- i'd love to listen to theory crafting of using the Polaris and the Idris as explorations ships, and compare them to the Carrack and Odyssey
They just put out a inside star citizen video, Ironclad is rad. They mentioned they are upgunning it so that it can compete with capital ships with its turrets. They didn't provide any extra detail on what that would mean though.
Can’t decide what me and the boys will put in the hangar. Likely something with interdiction capabilities. Quantum dampen then emp the ship to shut down its engines so it’s a sitting duck for those size 10 torps
The Polaris is huge for me coming back. I used to use the Carrack as a daily-driver because I could carry another small ship with it; however, it was heavily limited with space. The Polaris will be what me and 3 others will use as a central-base for operations. It's small enough to not be extremely hobbled by not having all 6~8 players on it and large enough to offer everything we could ever want.
I love the look of the Polaris. Pledged for it back in 2019. RSI ships are one of my favorites. The Polaris will server well for any org like mine will.
You know, i just noticed, that at the 10:10 mark, you can see a model that is the same outline of the ship we have no idea whos the manufacturer from last years showcase
2 days ago Mark Gibson, the Lead Vehicle Content Designer at CIG made a statement on Spectrum that Polaris armament sizes will likely remain the same as they are. The ship lacks turret coverage and it's also ridiculously easy to destroy incoming torpedoes without using any countermeasures in the current Master Modes iteration - Camural made a video about that recently. I also don't recommend thinking Capital Ship gameplay is a unique gameplay you won't experience on any different ships - that's a completely false statement. By definition, capital ship is the ship that has at least one capital component in it, that's the only difference. Polaris looks great but won't likely perform on the same level as it looks in combat without huge fleet compositions. Ships such as A2 or HH have more turret coverage and gun power, A2 can also bomb the ground and useful for events such as Jumptown. You can even place an Ursa Medivac inside and have a simple medbay in it.
I tend to agree, unfortunately the polaris turned out to not become a shrunken idris but a bloated retaliator. The best way to use this ship will be to solo it with a bunch of npc’s, lobbing torpedoes at distracted targets from far away. It would be a waste of human crew members due to the regular armaments turning out to be weak. The survivability also doesn’t seem high enough to survive the frontline. Real shame and waste of a nice ship model.
The polaris has 3x quad size 3 turrets, 2 dual size 4 turrets, 1 dual size 5 turret and 1 missile turret, you can see it ingame on the polaris flyby and dps calculator also has this in
I think, and don’t quote me on this, that they’ve retconned the Polaris to be in Sq42. Something I notice about a year or so back was that, in the progress tracker, it’s now both a PU and Sq42 asset. Would explain why there was a rush to get it out this year.
If the Polaris can hold Nova tanks (at least one) in its bay. I would use it as an exploration vessel, with a Terrapin in its hangar for use as a shuttle. With its long-range fuel tanks and radar, med-bay, ability to rearm and refuel ships in its hangar, and its powerful shields and strong armor, exploration would probably be a good fit for this ship. Moving as a convoy, with other exploration vessels, would make this even more possible.
It's great to see them finally adding stuff that'll be useful and fun when the game releases in the next 10-15 years. Also, developers are finally realizing that micro(macro in this case)-transactions come first, and the actual game later. Go support the project so the devs can keep making more ships!
as a perseus fanboy, the Polaris represents an ideal fleet vessel, owned and operated by someone else that i can work along side with either a hammerhead or a nautaulus in a 16-man carrier strike group sort of play. what uses will that have i don't know but it sure sounds fun to me
My group's entire fleet is built around this exact concept. our flagship is the Javelin my buddy was able to back for, but we're fully aware the normal fleet operations will be carried out by tasks forces cut out of the entire fleet. Each task force consists of a command capital ship which is either my Polaris or the other friend's Idris, and our group has or plans to have 2 sub-cap corvettes (this is what we consider large sub-caps intended for fleet/combat) escort each command ship. The Perseus is the shoe-in pairing with the Polaris because of how well its S7 guns compliment the Polaris' loadout, and either a Hammerhead or Liberator with fighters to screen the corvette task force. The Idris will likely have another Perseus for the force projection and my brother's Nautilus, since the Idris itself already has fighters to screen with, making it the mine warfare task force. In theory, with enough people and a large enough fight coming, both task forces could be fielded alongside the Javelin to create a destroyer strike group. It would also be nice if we had a Kraken which could support the Javelin itself by basing our largest fighter wing and covering the Javelin's rear blind spot. Other than that, Carracks act as pathfinders and recon, and we have a modest support fleet for refueling, repairing, and rearming. Our intention is to stake a land claim on an outer rim planet and make our own little slice of heaven, and we expect we'll need our own paramilitary force to protect it. I also have plans for using Liberators as amphibious assault ships for fielding platoons of players in combined arms missions by transporting troops alongside ursas, nursas, novas, spartans, air support, and potentially any other vehicles we decide to include in our combined arms coordination... but I let my mind get ahead of me sometimes lol.
@@ltmuffler3482I’m a fan of the game but it’s insane the amount of delusional day dreaming people do about this game. Not a single ship or gameplay function that you’re talking about is even in the game(or will be in the game for years if ever) and yet people like you will write essays about them. I don’t even want to be rude but reading stuff like this honestly breaks my heart when I look at the actual state of the game and how dedicated and in love the fan base is.
@@PyramusHD Honest question; why should I or anyone else care how seeing myself or anyone else enjoy their hobbies upsets you? Whether the game launches and these systems are in it or not, I've always been a huge fan of military fiction. I would love to actually play what I describe, but for now I simply enjoy theorycrafting it. Again, to make myself clear, I ENJOY writing the "essays" and find them in and of themselves an entertaining way to pass the time. I can also at least speak for myself when I say that I am fully aware of what the game is lacking, and fully critical of how the game will progress. I'm not deluded into thinking the game is or will be anything other than what is playable now and what is being actively worked on. Anything else is lip service, but that's fine, because I understand that and am backing the game and watching its progress anyway. If any of the systems change, that's fine - I'll enjoy myself reevaluating my plans with new ideas. What I don't go about doing is pitying people for enjoying themselves in a way that I wouldn't, nor am I assuming their delusion and ignorance for enjoy themselves... it's belittling and condescending, and frankly quite rude. There are significantly better ways to go about responding to posts like mine in a way that would be engaging with the topic content, rather than deriding the entire post for simply existing...
This is kind of the reason I'm hyped for the Arrastra and Orion: Arrastra is a bit too small, but the Orion could very well be a mobile base just sitting pretty in the Aaron Halo, and a couple smaller ships will sell refined goods, bring spare parts or scout for the juicies asteroids around. If you're out in the middle of Nowheresville, pirates are hopefully less of a problem. Once we actually get crafting (and it was hinted everything was supposed to be craftable eventually, I think) the mined and refined materials could be used to be 100% self sufficient somewhere in the belt, doing your own thing. That kind of 'off-grid' living is what I look forward to most. But I'll stay in Stanton for now. Pyro is a bit too "hot" for me. Pun intended.
I tend to get about an hour out of it before the elevator twists. Then I have to fly somewhere, unload, backspace and claim the ship. That's if other things dont force me to relog first
Love your videos, been watching for a minute and don’t know why I have t subscribed yet. Question for you, how would you feel if CIG put in a mining option similar to deep core mining in elite dangerous?
Fleet Doctrine wise, I'd run 4 to a group. They lack the AA and can easily be overpowered by a coordinated group. It's a rapid response vessel but it'd works better paired with an Irdis or 3-4 Hammerheads to keep it safe.
ngl I just want regions to be all one server with the meshing and then a feature where you can log out on your ship but someone can still be flying it and you can log in and be wherever they are. That would allow for friends to logout on ships in groups.
A few explanations as to why the Polaris. It's not limited which means it can be CCUed to. There are many who build a chain which gets them to their Polaris for $250 and less. It has a hangar and people are obsessed with everything with a hangar. It's big and people like big ships. It's almost reasonably small enough to be run with a small group of 5 (spoiler it really isn't). It might even be able to carry large vehicles like the Tonk. And last but not least it can do pretty much anything. It might not be the best at everything but it can do it.
So i was once interested in the Polaris, but upon realising that this ship wont have much firepower in the pilots hands, im sort of not too invested. Majority of the people want a powerful ship that will make things like bounty hunting a piece of cake like size 10 guns in the pilots hands. Group play is also something i love, but lets be honest, most of the time, you can't count on your buddies to be online same time as you.
If you ever flown a carrack it's the same idea. Your to big for small pirates. Anything big enough to hurt you run from for now. Once we get ai crew it'll be a no brained
my most hyped ship is the Kraken... the king of versatility. I cant wait to have my friend as the Kraken captain and I use it as a landing hub for my bucc, while we do bounties on Pyro.
I had to talk myself out of getting a CCU for the Polaris "just in case". I haven't seen it ingame but I'll probably gawk at it and wish SC was a single player game.
My continuing loyalty to the BMM is in serious trouble. Do I melt the BMM and go for the Polaris which has been guaranteed to roll of the assembly line by IAE? Is it prudent to convert the most unique and storied ship in the game for a ship that is guaranteed to have a completion date? The dilemma is real. Not only that, there is the threat of a Drake Concept on the horizon as well. May CR help us all if it is a capital of some sort,
Jut melted my Polaris. As a solo player it’s finally sunk in that I could not use this magnificent beast in all its glory. Picked up a C2 - 600i explorer- Zeus MkII MR to soften the blow 😂
There will be AI crew eventually. You can also use it for other things doesn't have to be for combat which is what I see most people miss with the ship.
@ReLapseJunkie You know CIG has stated multiple times that they want players to enjoy their ships, so they'll always be profitable in the end if you do it right. People keep forgetting CIG has said that and bring up "But the costs!!!!!1!!!1111" Also it's not just AI blades but NPC crews.
Good choice, not because it will require a crew, but after over a decade in development I think its safe to realistically say that ship will never actually be released. The company will be sued and a settlement will be reached with the plaintiffs that will bankrupt the company before that ever releases. People wont realize it though till after we go through another 5 or so years, but eventually after a good portion of their original backers die of old age, they will be sued for not releasing ships promised over a quarter of a century before (by the time the effective lawsuits start hitting). An easy solution to this would be instead of giving stand in ships for unreleased ones, they could have just given in game money that the player can spend themselves on an existing already flyable ship which would at least cover them legally. Unfortunately they will never do this. Remember when Obama was president and Pyro was just around the corner? I wonder who will be president when the Polaris will be just around the corner for the 5th time?
@@ReLapse85CIG have said that there will be a cost associated with NPCs/blades, but they've never said it would be a cost so high as to be prohibitive to use. That's just conjecture at this point.
As much as I want my own Polaris I feel like it's money wasted. Every org is gonna have several Polaris's. Also with the announcement of the Liberator and even the Odyssey there is better, cheaper, more reasonable "pocket carrier" fantasy shops that the Polaris nowadays. Still love the Polaris and will gladly serve as crew on them.
I bought a Polaris a long time ago, and I'm glad it's finally gonna be in the game. I just have to upgrade my potato with a new GPU to play Star Citizen 😞
I would hold off, that ship wont be out for at least another 10 years. Likely never. The current game engine cant support the interior and the entire game will need to be re-built and engine upgraded before anything with a larger than 890 jump interior is possible in game.
did sandworms ever actually make it in the game yet? i think the year before or after that they showed some quest where you went and picked up a hover bike floating from a wreckage in space and used it to assault an outpost on the ground of a planet but last i checked the quest giver wasnt even in the station he was supposed to be on
the polaris is the only ship that made me consider trading in my carrack and i love that ship. idk if ill ever actually do it cause i play solo and the Polaris is gonna be nuts to do solo
Great job,Yes I bought one lol for every reason you stated and more,It's the next step up from my Carrack with the next level of protection,I really want the details of the ship though,we need that information to make decisions for the future everything nailed down like just how big the hanger will be for sure height, width, length.will all the medical beds be able to spawn after death and how many people can call those beds a spawn point and so on.I didn't like this ship when I first saw it early on ,I thought it was just a simple small capital class with no potential but guns missiles and a few torpedos. But that's before all those important details like, the Armory,Full Medical bay,Hanger for a full size fighter maybe more, large enough Cargo bay to make it viable for trade and exploration of materials and possible support for colony development. This ship not only can haul but almost guarantee it will get there safely to the outpost or base/colony.And then if you are running supplies and goods to sell to a Merchantman orbiting a planet or moon selling goods like a space station before there is one. Also such a great ship for support in a mining operation or salvage op.fighter on patrol additional cargo area for storage and can continue doing the work well past the normal ship's storage space would have run out and had to return to a station or home base to unload and restock, this could all be set on the polaris ahead of time to restock prospectors ,moles, even take on extra from a reclaimer while watching it's back like a guard dog, with a lightning or two or 5 on patrol.I am not saying it's invincible but if they want it that bad they will pay for it in blood and ships giving the vultures and reclaimer more food.Think an orion and Moles working and this ship on watch, perfect combo.Worse comes to worse you buy them time to jump.
It's just mind-boggling how big these ships are in the game that players can ride or own. it's maybe big but it's the smallest in the Ship Class a Corvette.
Yeah, basically everything you said is why i got one a long time ago. 6 players is best I can hope for reliably. Let's your group stick together both new and experienced players alike and take on missions to have fun quickly. Assuming we can log in on the ship.
StarJump Grim is a 3D modeler who deconstructed the Polaris to show what vehicles could fit. Nova will not, Atlas chassis likely won’t ether. Everything else fits. Given both cargo bay sides open it could double as a secondary hangar for C8, and Snubs.
I am very excited for the large ships acting as mobile bases, but I am worried about larger ships overloading servers. The idris is about the limit. 8 players to man the guns with more for engineering and probably some pilots.
Personally, I am not particularly interested in Polaris, but because its incredibly popular, its not a low stakes concept. You have less room for error with Polaris than Idris, so its a good way to measure what CIG is actually capable of. Its honestly the first larger scale test of a capital ship we have seen as it isn't a limited quantity ship.
The main problem I have with group gameplay is that you cannot keep the group's games from crashing/bugging out every 30mins or so. That is why solo play is very dominate
I'm still waiting to see group gameplay beyond the odd event. I hope larger and more endurant (in terms of fuel capacity and ability to support a large crew) ships like the Polaris find their niche as we get more star systems, but I want to hear from CIG what capital ships will specifically be doing day-to-day beyond killing other large ships. I love the idea of a capital serving as a moving home base but I don't see how that's going to happen right now or in the future with current plans.
Theres a huge thing with capital ships, and that is maintenance cost. The refuel, repair, ammo and components cost is high so if you dont have mining OPs and Cargo OPs to sustain such ship you be broke soon enough that is if you dont get blown in that case it will be even more expensive
Also curious. Especially since capital ships are supposed to earn their living requiring meticulous planning to ensure you gain a net positive. I would assume with a vanduul incursion plagued system that answer would be rather easy, but with pyro and stanton alone…
Funny, how the Polaris now is capital class....because at the beginning the first capital class ship is the Idris. At least they stated, that it doesnt carry capital ship components.
It will have some capital class components, I'm sure. Like the shield and powerplant. We will know more once they show us the final version before they release it.
Larger ships like the Polaris will really come in to their own once we have Server Meshing. Being limited to 100-110 players per server that we have now can make it a bit hard to crew when it's difficult to get enough of your own Org on the same server. Also we'll need more large PvE events like the XT Incursion were there's lots of clearly defined bad guys to shoot at(not counting the occational PvP'r who thinks they're actually helping the bad guys in those events because lets face it, the PvP'rs are out numbered).
Isn't the 890 Jump the first Capital Class Ship in the game? It has Capital Class components. It's larger than the Polaris. The Polaris is cool, but I don't think it gets to be the "First" Capital Class ship.
-It has decent durability to survive against low intensity threats
-It has okay turrets to defend itself, or handle NPC pirates on bounties etc.
-It has huge torpedoes to take down bigger ships, or possibly even airstrike ground bases with
-It can support players with food, air, water, beds, and medical facilities
-It provides good space to store a ton of interesting FPS equipment
-It provides a ton of space to store loot from possible ground missions or improvised raids on outposts
-It can do very long distance travel
-Having huge sensors, it can spot content that might have been missed without such tools
-A fighter bay allows dogfighting for any aspiring ace pilots, or the ship slot could be used for a utility ship
-The ground vehicle bay allows for ground support vehicles
And all without really needing that big of a crew.
I don't understand, how is it different gameplay wise to what we already have?
First proper combat ship with Carrier capacities AND on top it has relative low crew requirements. So naturally my squadron has now like 3 or so of them while we will struggle to crew one properly with fighte escort and all. ;-)
Basically it's like a fusion of a Carrack and a 890 jump, just in good.
That's always been the goal! It's okay if why engineering is so important.
... as long as they don't inadvertently make multiplayer gameplay obsolete with AI blades and hirable NPC's ...
This is a good Citizen right here. Big fleets means lots of crew needed, and if everyone has a fleet of their own it'll all be one big clusterfluff.
It’s not fully fleshed out as big mission doesn’t bring enough rep and money , they should ante the difficulty and the pay out
… got an org? 😁
"It's the Polaris"
>Kraken at 45%
Ikr 😂
So anyway if the game developers are going to build bigger ships in the future, it would take a long while to finish as they are not just massive but they need a lot of details to do it.
when the kraken releases I'm back on the game for good.
I think the Kraken has hype for the same reason ST points out the Polaris has hype, not only can it be used for combat but it can also be used as a base of operations, I'd say it's even more so with the Kraken.

Tomato soup is one of my Favorites. Cant wait to call my Polaris "Polaris Red"
Even though I am a solo player, I cant wait to get my hands on this ship.
Same, here here for solo players and our dream to keep soloing even in capital ships 🥂
Good luck wished uppon both of you!
@@Strange-Viking 🍷
Documentary-level insight.. I'm always expecting it, but still surprised every time, dude!
Not sure if everyone knows but they said during the ISC that the Polaris will come out during IAE. Like no matter what apparently. It sounded pretty clear.

You hit the nail on the head for why Im hyped for it. I play in a 5-8 man group, and having a sort of home base platform to stage the game from would be awesome.
All lovely and exciting, I just pray I still have enough time left on earth to experience all of this first hand when it is finally released.
I have a feeling these ships will feel a lot more natural to have once we have hundreds of players in each instance of the game
Even more so with actual armour and physicalized damage so a light fighter does not DPS it to death within 30 seconds.
Perseus is my dream ship waiting on that.
Same, but I don't think we'll see it before 2026. Galaxy at IAE 2025 most likely.
Sadly is the last of the RSI ships to be built 😢
I’ve been drooling over my idris for a long time. Seeing it has made me crazy excited and thinking of the possibility of that ship can be endless. But for so reason seeing the Polaris lately has given me more excitement to use it. I have a big fleet and only really saw myself using the idris mainly. This ship has changed that thought for sure!

Space tomato once again showing why he is the goat !
I'm almost as excited for its release this november as I was for Elden Ring's DLC over the last two years. The Polaris is looking like it'll be done for IAE.
People love it for what they think it is or what they want it to be... not for what it actually is. This is an age-old problem with this project.
Yeah, interesting development!
I can't wait to do solo bunkers with it 🙌🏼🔥🗣
Can’t decide what me and the boys will put in the hangar.
I can absolutely see why alot of people are excited for this ship since this will be a fantastic group ship.
You know, i just noticed, that at the 10:10 mark, you can see a model that is the same outline of the ship we have no idea whos the manufacturer from last years showcase
i love the Polaris its one of those ships with the bridge crew completely exposed at the very front of the ship.
The polaris has 3x quad size 3 turrets, 2 dual size 4 turrets, 1 dual size 5 turret and 1 missile turret, you can see it ingame on the polaris flyby and dps calculator also has this in
I knew I'd get that wrong. I hate going by numbers!
I can't wait until multi-crew and org gameplay gets more functionality. I'd love to be an engineer-for-hire on these massive corvettes/capitals
as a perseus fanboy, the Polaris represents an ideal fleet vessel, owned and operated by someone else that i can work along side with either a hammerhead or a nautaulus in a 16-man carrier strike group sort of play. what uses will that have i don't know but it sure sounds fun to me
My group's entire fleet is built around this exact concept. our flagship is the Javelin my buddy was able to back for, but we're fully aware the normal fleet operations will be carried out by tasks forces cut out of the entire fleet.

I’m sticking to saving up for my liberator, I love that ship.
The Carrack was a group gameplay ship until they broke the elevator. Would be nice to use it again eventually.
Pretty sure it's been fixed for a while
Not according to everyone I talked to in chat today, before that broke too. Tried anyways, elevators died
It works when you first pull it out but eventually the middle elevator goes sideways

@ReLapseJunkie You know CIG has stated multiple times that they want players to enjoy their ships, so they'll always be profitable in the end if you do it right. People keep forgetting CIG has said that and bring up "But the costs!!!!!1!!!1111"
Also it's not just AI blades but NPC crews.

Assuming we can log in on the ship.
well... Im happy to test it when it comes out..
I got the Polaris .. Perseus ( my second favorite ) and my favorite Idris @_@
Finally short and understandable content ..
Don't forget about the 890J!
@4:02 *Gives the Banu Merchantman the side eye.
I remember it used to be limited sales only at first, then they started selling them normally
It's been 8 years since the Polaris offering already?!!!!
I'm still wondering what the difference between that Captain's Room and the CO Room is.
My dream for this game is for me to be part of a crewed capital ship and dot part during an active exploration or battle
890 jump was the first capital ship ingame^^
I hope this ship maintains its concept's intended feature of having a low minimum crew to operate.
Despite the cost i can see this being a very popular ship. Maybe even rivaling the desire people have for the BMM.
Can't wait for the Merchantman
"First Capital Ship"
890J: "Did you forget about me ?" 🤨
