If there was a new set of Melee Gods, Axe would be the Mid-Tier God. Besides Leffen's MewTwo you rarely see mid-tiers played at this caliber, but even Leffen's MewTwo doesn't have nearly this much swag.
There's an alternate timeline where Axe is a Young Link main and for the swag bracket he brought out his sick pocket Pikachu. Suddenly the entire world is turned on its side and the community is questioning the competitive viability of the little yellow mid tier.

@@nicksalvatore5717 He struggles in the neutral game against the spacies, and has a rough time in general getting KO's. His limited Melee range can also be an issue at times. In the later versions of Melee his recovery is also pretty ass for a character of his weight class.

It's crazy how Axe knows every little trick with characters like Young Link. Can't wait to see Axe pull him vs Hbox next time they meet in bracket it should be a pretty interesting match.
Axe has brought out YL against hbox a few times in bracket a few years ago, it didn't work out too well
I've seen Axe use Young Link versus Hungrybox once, and as Michael Shin said, it wasn't pretty. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more Young Link, but I also love seeing Axe's Pikachu.

IDK if I've seen anyone on stream ever throw down that hard with YL. Such a technical character to make viable in a match. The projectile placements, run off up B's(kills you if you mess up), bomb drops, wall jumps (with and without hookshot), edge cancels, punish to the max grab... The fact that he has mastered all that is insane. Definitely makes the character at least a viable counterpick if you can play it as good or better than he does.
I could see Young Link being a counter pick, and it's an interesting idea that I've never considered myself. While I'm not sure if we'll see Young Link competitively, stranger things have happened so you never know!

@@Frudgey I believe Armada famously put YL on the map as a counterpick. Axe picked it up after he did it to use as a counterpick against floaty characters. I know Axe brought it out against hbox in a big tourney.

It's just turnaround bow into ADCT (Air Dodge Cancel Tether) into wall jump. It's a tight and impressive input still though. Never pull it off in my lifetime.

Historically, no. Axe has used young link in 14 tournament games (not sets, games) against HBox, and won only 2.
I've only ever seen Axe's Young Link versus Hungrybox once, and Hungrybox won the game.

How cool of you to upload Axe’s highlights for him I’m sure he didn’t want any of the viewership anyway
So Axe is popular community figure (for good reason) so I can understand where you're coming from. I've reached out to Beyond the Summit to see if I can have permission to use their content to make the highlight videos, and I've yet to hear back from them.
I'm of the belief that creating highlight videos like these are mutually beneficial, though I definitely see the counter argument that states otherwise.
It's possible that I'm cannibalizing viewership by making these videos, but I'd also say it's possible that I could be helping viewership with these videos by directing traffic to Axe or Beyond the Summit by crediting them in the description. However it's not easy to know what is actually the case unless we look at some analytics, which just isn't something I have.
I think there's definitely an argument to be made that I operate in a morally grey area, and for that I understand why some people don't like what I do. Me personally I think with this kind of content "everyone wins", but I know that not everyone would agree.
To give a quick rundown on why I think these videos are mutually beneficial:
- The highlight videos may encourage people to go watch the full sets on the original owner's channel if they liked the highlights.
- Hopefully I'm creating something new that wouldn't be made otherwise. I.E., if Beyond the Summit made an Axe Swag Single Highlight video and then I made one, then I think there's a stronger argument that I'm cannibalizing content.
- These videos are good for the people who want to catch the best moments but don't want to watch all the games. I would think the number of people who choose to not watch the games BECAUSE they've watched the highlights is a small number. It's been my experience that people watch highlights due to time restraints (so they wouldn't watch the full games to begin with) or the highlights encourage people to watch the full games. This is anecdotal experience from previous comments I've gotten on my highlight videos, though again I think this is only something that can be answered with research and analytics.
The first bullet is the one I have the most faith in, as my previous experience working with entertainment companies has led me to think that for the most part, companies are happy to have highlight videos created as it is advertising for them - sort of like a trailer for a movie. I've personally even have gotten opportunities for creating highlight videos using footage from companies.
Hopefully this gives some insight to my motivations.
Frudgey So you didn’t get their permission to use their content so you just went ahead and did it anyways. That’s direct cannibalization of viewership. Nobody watches these videos and then watches the sets because there’s no reason to anymore. You’re a lazy piece of shit who makes no-effort content. Get over yourself and actually do something unique or interesting with your content, we don’t need another Pengboys or Gloomshot.

Cleotheninja His reply was well-worded in the way that he dances around the subject and never takes any responsibility for his wrongdoing/speaks in a way which goes on the assumption that what he’s doing isn’t wrong. Taking other people’s content and not doing anything with it is stealing. Just because someone isn’t using harsh language doesn’t mean that what their saying is true/acceptable. I’m not going to acknowledge manipulative language as a legitimate form of discourse. He’s playing you for a fool and you’re eating it up. What he’s doing isn’t a “moral grey area” and it’s not “questionable” it’s flat out wrong and he should either shut down his channel or change his content. A lot of work goes into this community whether it’s the TOs setting up events or the players putting in countless hours to become the best at the game, and they should be reaping all of the rewards, not talentless people like Frudgey here.
