    Liked and subscribed. Thanks for covering all the little side subjects like "you have to close the casting session before casting again" or "casting camera can have issues", because other youtubers don't. They are just like "hey you cast by calling a service, and it works". Nah.

    Thanks Mark. I did manage to cast to my old Chromecast. However I had a bit of struggle in the beginning with WebRTC Camera integration. So the long story short, I had to set "mode: webrtc", for it to work. Otherwise it was just a black screen, even though it was showing on the web fine.

    Thanks for the tutorial. For me, casting Reolink E1 outdoor sub stream works fine with lovelace panel mode.

      @@MarkWattTech So far it's gone very well although for some reason I get different results when using a chromecast to a TV with built in functionality (I get different colour schemes - but I suspect that may be due to HA thinking the built in Chromecast is a different device but that isn't a problem

    Thanks for this AWESOME tutorial Mark! I'm loving having custom visual notifications pop up on my displays for important events.
    If anyone else is interested in displaying custom created media like the bin notification that Mark had here, if you're creating your own content for the google nest mini the image/moive/gif dimensions you'll need are 1024 x 600 to fit the screen perfectly. For the Nest Hub Max the dimensions you'll need to conform your content to are 1280 x 800. Happy Automating :)

    I have an automation that on doorbell press casts the live camera feed to my google display, then does text to speech on all google speakers announcing someone is at the door. I use unifi protect camera setup and the camera feed is 100% reliable, i know people with other camera manufactures that get spotty performance at best.

    Just to add an update to this (love the article bit I've found some gotchas in my environment). I have used what I think is a gen 1 chromcast and it seems to lack the processing power to handle views thar update (such as history graphs etc). I'm experimenting with changing the refresh rates to reduce the load on the chromecast. At the moment - using the chromecast I have embedding CCTV is not an option because it can't cope. Oh well, looks like I'm going to need a better chromecast :)

    Nice idea, I think I'll give it a shot. I would venture a guess your camera issues are the camera, Reolink works fine in the native app but pretty much sucks everywhere else, that has been my experience.

    Awesome video. I currently set mine up to stop casting after 5 min. I think this weekend I will do ones that cast a dashboard with video when there is motion at night. If this works well for me, I may have to get more Google Hubs, LOL.

    Casting a dashboard with a videostream (webRTC) works reliable here on a nest hub. But when casting a dashboard with 2 camera views on it, it gets problematic, and with more then 2 cams the nest hub crashes and will only recover by pulling the plug.

    • @ertvvf
      @ertvvf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have something similar here. When streaming webRTC, it takes about 2-3min before being able stream.

    Whenever I do this it fails. I gave up on it a long time ago and stopped trying. The Nabu Casa casting page where you enter your external URL worked fine, but not my local HA trying to do it natively. There's a thread about it failing and haven't seen much progress even there was a release note saying something was fixed that was broken for a long time.

    Awesome video! I'll most definitely be watching more. Do you know why a nest hub max wouldn't be sending events over to smartthings or to home assistant? Ih the google home app, events and snapshots show. in the nest app they show as well. I have tried even deleting my google home account, factory reset the hub max, re added, re did all of the permissions for tying in nest cameras. I cannot figure it out for the life of me.

    I have the Google hubs in every room and have been waiting for the ability to actually put them into wall over light switches (thinking recessing the actual light switch and mounting hub in front of switch where switch would still work and be able to use by simply pulling hub out a bit) anyways - so is there a simple way to set these up for each room and have them engage screen saver for example if there is no movement in room or until screen is touched) ??? I'm new here, so you may have already covered this. TIA

    Do you know if it is possible to "cast" a lovelace dashboard to a Amazon Echo Show to?

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Currently it’s not possible. It’s a limitation by Amazon. I’ve seen a skill you can use to open the silk browser to a set HA page in a routine. But it’s very sluggish and nowhere near as sleek as casting.

    Thanks Mark, your videos are great.
    But I'll do have a question. I have some indivual addressable led strips in my HA that are based on WLED. On my PC dashboard, I can see all adjustments like the colour wheel and effects and can manipulate them by the mouse. On the casted dashboard I basically can only adjust brightness and an error message appears, similar to all other coloured lamps. Is there any way that the casted dashboard allows these finer tweaks from the nesthub, too?
    Thanks again, RR

    • @MarkWattTech

      Heya. You will need a Nabu Casa subscription or to have HA externally accessible via other means. HA Cloud is by far the simplest and the subscription goes directly towards funding the HA and ESPHome projects.
      It’s not region specific (im in the UK).
