Every game I have ever bought with a sand timer has a timer that has little to do with what the rules claim. So now I have a box with a bunch of sand timers, where I wrote the actual time on each of them, but that's not possible with multiple timers of different lengths. It looks like a fun game, especially for a crowd that likes to jump in, so I hope that the quality control on the timers was paramount here.
I think you'd need to do your best to determine which happened first. Did a regular timer run out, or did you get the countdown timer flipped onto the last space first?

So far in my plays, I haven't had any issues with the quality of the timers.

The 3rd "boo" card is flip at the same time the countdown timer is flip to the winning condition.
