  • In this video I pattern My Patternmaster Duck, Patternmaster Goose and, my Carlson Cremator Mid range and Long range choke tubes. I ran Boss shotshells and Federal Speed shock shotgun shells. I patterned at 40 yards and compaired results at the end of the video. Don't forget to like and subscribe.

    Carlsons mid-range stays in my gun all of regular season for ducks/geese. Patterns great for most duck hunting situations/distances.

    The Cremator is not a smooth constriction but rather uses a series of steps inside to slow the wad similarly as the Patternmaster. With heavy bismuth loads, some of the shot is not contained by the wad and is exposed to the barrel wall and without the protection of a wad, abrupt steps, wad stoppers, and porting can cause some of the shot to be lost to fragmentation. The best choke for bismuth is going to be an extended choke with a smooth constriction and long parallel section with no porting or wad stoppers.

      There's another fella on TH-cam that rented a $300,000 super high speed camera. He conclusively proved with highspeed photography that the Patternmaster works opposite from their claim. Instead of shortening the shot string, it lengthens it. He also demonstrated that ported chokes do not pattern as well as the non ported of the same brand and design. (e.g, Cremator Ported vs Non Ported). The Non Ported Cremator across the board performed more consistantly better with all ammo options.

    Last season here in ND I used a Cremator long range for everything close or far away. This year I switched to a Patternmaster Duck and I hammered almost everything I shot at, far less cripples. I haven't put them side by side on paper. I still like my Cremator, but I would probably only use that now on real tight decoying duck hunts, smaller bird to eat more of the pattern at close range rather than a honker at 40 yards

    I used to shoot #2s, 3.5in Kent Fast Steel for large ducks and Canada geese. #4s, 3in Fast Steel for small ducks. Now I shoot BOSS 4s and 5s, 2.75in. BOSS customer service is the best.🇺🇸. Good post, good hunting 👍

    Do you do any upland hunting for dove and quail?
    I upland hunt in Az. Not much in the way of waterfowl where I go hunting other than jumping stock tanks and ditches.
    Keep up the great work Brother!

    I like my kicks full (invector plus) choke for boss 2 3/4” 3/5s and at 35 yards it’s a dead duck and density inside a basketball size area with a spread out of 30” plus from “flyers” that hit outside. Very similar results with a muller choke (decoy) with the boss shells as well. I also shoot some hevi-metal longer range 6s for woodies and teal that pattern very similar to the boss shells.

    In the Carlson Cremator series, the Midrange is actually a Light Mod (.015) and the Long Range is an Improved Mod (.025), not Modified (.020) and Full (.030). So, not quite apples to apples, but cool video. I love the Boss shells!

    • @riograndereaper
      @riograndereaper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it maybe they did but it patterned almost exactly the same as the carlson so it must not fragment as much as ive been told. Especially with the pattenmaster goose that gave me the best pattern by far

    I have the pattern master anaconda, and it did well. I now have a kicks and it does very well also. You can check out the video I posted if you like. In the next few days, I will be getting a Muller choke, and I have high hopes that it will be the best of the best.
    If you haven’t watched Joel Strickland‘s surviving duck season shotgun video it’s pretty cool. Talks a lot about pattern master, and the shot string. The cool, slow motion video is epic. Great video.

    Good luck this season. I would highly recommend you pattern off of a lead sled. If you can remove, "you" as a variable, you'll know exactly what the gun, choke and shot will do if you are 100% on your game. JM2C

    Shooting stationary targets tells us nothing about shotstrings, because they all eventually get there that never happens in crossing shots.

    I shoot the same gun with a carlson's (i always used carlson's chokes shooting collegiately because a lot of the other stuff was hype and carlson's was inexpensive and kept me solidly on the team), big take away from this test which I've seen in numerous tests is this:
    Same or similar results
    Patternmaster- $100
    Carlson's- $45
    That's $55 saved for more (like maybe 5 more) Boss shells or 100 rounds of blue box 🤣

    • @riograndereaper
      @riograndereaper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya those 2 carlson chokes were 110 i think and the patternmaster was like 80 so big price difference bit i love that blue box but i wasn't sure if i would find any and got that boss

      @riograndereaper  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya i think when it comes to constriction tubes there is only so much you can do i think in my experience in the field even thought on paper carlson patterns better i think patternmaster hits harder on live birds

  • @patrickchapman6179
    @patrickchapman6179 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those patterns are terrible. You should try a big piece of butcher paper to see if it’s more dense than that . I use a Patternmaster code black goose with 2 shot steel. My targets are covered in shot.
