- Amy Herman visited Google's office in Cambridge, MA to discuss her book "Visual Intelligence: Sharpen Your Perception, Change Your Life".
In her seminar, the Art of Perception, Herman has trained experts from many fields how to perceive and communicate better. By showing people how to look closely at images, she helps them hone their “visual intelligence,” a set of skills we all possess but few of us know how to use properly. She has spent more than a decade teaching doctors to observe patients instead of their charts, helping police officers separate facts from opinions when investigating a crime, and training professionals from the FBI, the State Department, Fortune 500 companies, and the military to recognize the most pertinent and useful information. Her lessons highlight far more than the physical objects you may be missing; they teach you how to recognize the talents, opportunities, and dangers that surround you every day.
Before joining Thirteen/WNET.ORG as Director of Educational Development in 2007, Amy Herman was the Head of Education at The Frick Collection for over ten years, where she oversaw all of the Collection’s educational collaborations and community initiatives. She holds a BA in International Affairs from Lafayette College, a JD from the National Law Center, George Washington University, and an MA in Art History from Hunter College.

Absolutely love this lady! Been doing this since i was a little girl and people always thought i was strange.
This is knowledge to incorporate into audio description for the blind. Something I still struggle to manage correctly. I am always mesmerised to notice how many new things I can see on an already known (let say) paintings, when properly looking at it when trying to describe it to the blind. Right now, I don’t see a ring on a hand of Mrs. Hannah Winthrop reflection on the table.
The semantic triangle is a good Survey of "if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change"

"Don't reach for what you want to see." This makes even more sense today in November 2020. This is the best 51 minutes I've spent in as far as I can see.

He notice in the video that when the girl walked into the parking log on camera out of view walking to her car she noticed something then traveled out around away from car but toward it..... then she relaxed and walked directly toward the car..... which to him was “she seen someone......the. Realized who it was so she walked to her car...... she knew her killer”

I enjoy art history, and thinking about perception as a visual artist, however what Amy says, ironically at 50.50, conflicts with her authority, she learns that others can have "insights and observations that she would have never considered". What she says here is entertaining, but not revelational, communicating your perceptions effectively is. I will have to read more of her work to know.

Miss Herman is a shame-feeding spokes-droid for an invisible boss. Why is it that no two people see things the same way, if this is a statement of fact? Is Miss Herman aware of our work in the subject? Could she learn what we have to say? To me, to use the synonym for one of her hated two words, the truth is prima facie. As prima facie as the implications of the photos we shall be showing Miss Herman. And the hand behind her is the same Heroic hand that sent a runner to me one winter day, as I sat in front of the MIT Academic Quad looking out at the city of Boston from across the Charles -- asking simple questions about what it was that I was looking at. And undistracted by "official" answers from any pseudo-scientific catechism.
One example. In the "cow only" test, Herman stipulated to the cat. A mammal. There was a bird (hawk or falcon) upside down, but that was not a mammal. She could have said animal, and if she did the answer was not "cow", but was "cat, hawk and cow". Why look for the non-obvious when the obvious is found? And to make the obvious not part of the answer means that she is teaching her classes to FBI and CIA Agents.... I have not been able to watch more than 16:30 of this because Miss Herman's cleverness and cheap stunt trickery make me ill. But I will look at the rest of this soon enough.

She is talking about the import of fundamentals, an eye that for not filters anything away. And u say it is non sensical .The only thing nonsensical is you choice of words in description of this video..(. And my grammar, maybe !)😂

Why bother teaching art history? Most of it is garbage masquerading as brilliance. It may behoove the Clapper to give this genius a test about the OEM Model applied to art and art history. I'll bet it's not in her catechism. It would remove the mystery. From which is derived clever puzzle-game "authority". This snake is very nasty. Why I keep on the public forum -- I'm only at 16:31 now. Maybe I'll stop here and pick up the drudgery in the AM.
