Zambia and Botswana can be very pricey in the context of hunting dangerous game. However, if you're only looking for plainsgame there are many areas in both countries which are quite affordable.
My case was very similar. My gift was also .470 NE 28” William Evans by Purdy’s box lock hammerless ejector. Dad had shot about a dozen Tigers with it and scores of horned game in South India. In my early teens, I shot quite a few huge wild boars, horned game etc. In USA , I got a few offers for over 20 Grand but then the rifle was not in USA😞

So there is no need to hunt/poach elephants to make them an endangered species.
