How to Fix HIDs that Aren't Working Properly

- In this video, I show you how to fix a set of HID’s that have problems, such as flickering, they do not turn on, one of them shuts off, or anything else power related. When you hook up an HID kit to your car, your OEM wiring might not supply the proper power that the ballasts need. In that situation, you may run into problems. If you install a relay harness on your HID kit, you will be getting power directly from the battery, and the OEM wiring is only going to be a signal to activate a relay for the lights.
We picked up this HID kit and relay harness from DDM tuning’s website.

ThatTRDrolla 1-year later same thing brand new kit one of my bulb momentarily lights then turns off thereafter same issue over and over. Then I find a business nearest me to properly install he asks if I have a Relay, my response DUH LMAO. Perfect timing , TH-cam Your Vid. I am Not Electrical minded, Verbally you make Total sense But the Visual Wiring you kind of lost me part of the problem at the beach TOO Much Sunlight on my iPhone Screen he he he. GREAT JOB!!! Thanks for the tutorial. I followed the instructions manual and used your videos a guideline my lights turn on at 80% of the time. Should I try to return the harness and try different brand?

I tried to install an hid on my 2000 dodge ram 1500.it takes 9007 bulbs.I hooked up my hid kit but without a relay harness.But when i turned on my lights the hid bulb turned on yellow like a halogen bulb.i tried both bulbs and both did the same. i tried different ballasts and they all did the same thing.Later i realized that even if the ballast wasnt connected to the oem harness or the hid bulb, the bulb would still turn on as a halogen bulb.were I bought the hid kit they guy tried it to see if it works and it worked fine with a blue whiteishhh color.Do you think a relay harness would fix that lol hopefully u read all of this lol

Great Video! I have a morimoto kit. Using XB 50watt ballasts, D2S bulbs, anti-flickering capacitor, and relay harness. Occasionally the passanger side does not turn on. The wiring and connection are good. All the parts are from Morimoto. If all the wiring and bulbs are good, is it wise to replace the ballast or ignitor?

So even if you have stock headlights with the projector bulb i would still have to get the oem relay harness also?

Hi do I put one canceller on both sides?? I do have a relay harness on and my right side flickers and relay makes a loud buzzing noise
Does this adversely affect the alternator and is this a problem with led headlights to.
Mt Accent SR has HIDs and when the daylight comes on its buzzes, I have to leave the headlights on all the time then its fine. The lights turn off automatically when off.

What’s the type of harness is for a 2006 Honda Civic si coupe with after market projectors headlamps H1 HID 200watts?
I installed a brand new kit and only 1 side turned on. I tested both ballast and bulb and both are good. So dont understand why other side not working? Dual beam h4 with relay harness. Only thing i can think of is i grounded negative to chassis cause wire not long enough to goto negative terminal of battery. Could that be my problem?

Hi, I have installed HID on my Lexus CT200h. When I start the engine, (with the option "automatic headlights") the left side turns on, but the right side doesn't. I need to turn off and to turn on the headlights manually and in this case the 2 sides start successfully. This Capacitor will resolve this problem too ? Thanks a lot.

I've installed a HID conversation kit with relay on my 2018 F150 and also turned my DRL settings off. They have worked perfectly up until a few days ago and now are constantly on even with the switch and vehicle turned off... any ideas?? I have to pull the fuse to turn them off and to save the battery.

Hello guys I need your advise with my xenon..I have h4 xenon kit harness with H1 bulbs to run my retrofit projectors.The first time I turn the switch on everything work perfect.But when I turn off the lights and try to turn them back on again they don't light up. Lights need 1 or 2 minutes after I close them to work again. Any help?
my problem with my hids is that when it rains it does not provide as much light as when it is normal. Do you think is becouse it needs to be hooked up to the relay and if so would this put more stress on my batterie?

I found two types of HID harness, single relay and twin relay, which one is better?
usually single relay is ok.For H4,H13,9004/9007 H/L beam
So I do not have a HID setup in my 04 beetle, but I do have a problem where my headlights have intermittent problems coming on when I turn on the ignition. Sometimes it is left, sometimes right, sometimes both or none. I only hear of this being an issue for HID lights, but not for the factory halogens. Any thoughts on where to look? I am looking at possibly swapping out the headlight switch to see if that works.

So i bought this kit from ebay that supposed that they doesnt do flirckering and it came with the can-bus system and they do flirckering, should i add the relay harness?
That wouldn't be a bad idea, and if you would like to as well, adding a capacitor would be a good idea too :)
I have a 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited had HID lights put in. The HID lights are not working properly. I contacted the Company and they said I need a battery relay harness. Then later needed a warning canceller compacitor. Now the driver side light come on for about 3 seconds, flicker and then goes off. Help
Can you explain in detail how to connect from battery all the way up to low beam switch?
It goes in the factory power supply that comes out of the stock halogen bulb. That is how it gets the signal. Then positive to positive and negative to negative.
I have a 2012 vw and been using HIDs straight from the ballast after 6 months ones stopped working would this fix it.
You probably blew a fuse or the bulb. Change the bulb and put a relay on

I would look into getting a relay harness for your HID kit, i will bet the car doesn't have one. Either that, or they are cheap quality HID's

Hi man it's very good to hear you, want to ask you I have aftermarket hid xenon, but I am not satisfied, it looks like normal halogen is throwing light not on road, its vision is not clear, light spreads here and there so what can I do to solve this problem please help me.
Sounds like your car has a reflector housing, take them out and put your halogen bulbs back in. HID's in reflectors are dangerous as they blind oncoming traffic from the glare they cause and sporadic light pattern. You NEED a set of headlights with projector housings if you want to run HID's or LED's.
@@Captainlou26 OK that's really nice of you I have replaced my hid with the halogen lights and whenever I go for a upgrade replaced reflector headlight first.
i have my hids set up exactly like this..but no lights are coming on (all of a sudden..they did work for months)my relay is not getting switched on..i replaced the relay but that did nothing..i actually had an old cracked relay that i had rigged to prevent the inside from making contact and viola..lights are on..but ..i have to physically disconnect the cracked relay to turn the lights off...my automatic lights and my actual light switches do not work...HELP!

my right side keeps flickering when driving but is still when in park. and my left side is lower than my bright side in terms of brightness. my right side is way brighter than my left. it messes w my OCD.
1 of the 2 headlights is always less bright, that is happening to prevent blinding oncoming traffic/drivers.
I don't know where exactly I should connect the relay to my battery. Please help!

If you want, you can also run a seperate relay harness to activate a set of fog lights along with the headlights. That's how I ran mine. It's a pretty easy install. But that's if you guys are up for it though.
Quick question one pf my hid fog lights went out could it be the bulb or the ballast because the other one works?
Its probably the ballast. if you don't have a relay, install one, and see if that fixes the problem. If you switch the working ballast to the other side, if the light turns on, your ballast was shot, if it doesn't the HID bulb is shot :)
Just swap the bulbs around from one side to the other and that should answer that. Bulb or ballast...👌👍😊

I also want to say, I got Hid kit from ebay a while ago for 35 bucks. Then one side the hid started getting a pinkish tint to it, its supposed to be 5k. All i had to do it buy some Better quality bulbs and haven't had that problem for a year now

It could be the bulb at that point. They start to degrade over time.
milanmastracci I just put them in about a month ago, i tried adjusting the projectors too but it didn't improve visibility
+hxgs could be the quality too if you bought cheap then they could not be as good as more expensive ones

+hxgs I'd go over and check your wires ground, power, etc. Could be the possibility of voltage drop too I have leds from opt7 and they flicker a little on startup
can you do a video on your car wash routine without fancy tools and stuff and basic car products aswell as cleaning the engine bay? and maybe tinting your car windows by hand?great vid by the way

I missed something... If you wire the lights direct to the battery, why aren't they on all the time - nothing seems to connect to the OEM wiring so the switch in the cabin is not connected into the circuit?
The relay is actually the switch between the battery and the lights. The headlight switch inside the cabin actuates the relay.

You might be able to use one harness for both if you wanted them on at the same time otherwise you would need two harnesses.

what if i run my kids on the oem wiring...and no problems happen. because i have my 5000k 55watt fogs running on the oem wires and they haven't caused any problems nor flickered once. am i lucky ? or is my car just capable of producing enough power to the hids

I have a relay and capacitors and I had one headlight that would not turn on so I got a new hid kit and I just installed it and it worked perfect at first. Then My driver side went out and my passenger side keeps flickering. Any advice lol? Thank you

I have a high quality hid setup. It worked a long time but now it only fires up the lights sometimes.
Once the lights are on they stay on but if I turn them off. One might come back on, none might go on or they both turn on.
Is this a problem with the relay? The bulbs? Or is it the ballasts?
When everything is on it works perfectly and will stay on until I turn off my lights.
Could be the ballasts or it could be the relay harness itself is corroded somewhere or has a loose connection.

NO, if you want brighter HIDs, just buy the 55W HID kit. But then you will definitely have to install a relay harness.

I couldn’t find the right video for my problem so I’m just leaving this comment here hoping someone can help. I have a relay harness and all that and my HIDs worked perfectly for months and then I noticed recently that when I would hit large bumps or dips my left HID would turn off. But I would turn the lights off then on and it’ll be fine again. Just wondering if anyone knew why my left HID would turn off whenever I would hit a large bump on the road?

Tbh,how legal is this in Canada? I mean,in Europe there is a lot of rules to follow to install a HID kit,even if you want to upgrade for the OEM one from stock halogen,you have to go to a certified garage and install there,otherwise you easily can wake up without traffic license...
And if you have can bus sistem you will have error on dash saying bulb failure and plese those rice horns and that led light bar omg remove them
