I don't actually think it will harm the drill beyond its normal use. The torque reaction is not very high, at least not as high as using a half inch demmings drill to bore through block of mild steel. The world is not made of aluminum and pine.
@@thomasstuart6861 good drills will last but using it like this will shorten its life a lot... The torque you are talking about will increase depending on what he intents to cut but even without much of a torque, the motor and that drill is not meant for a continuous use like that. Do not use a power drill (you want to keep mix things). You will blow out the motor in a good power drill by using it as a mixer. I see many guys use their Makitas with a mixing rod. And have seen many ruin them. I simply give them a 30 year old craftsman electric drill I have that I would give away for $5. It over heats after 5 mins but gets the job done. They also make specialty drills for mixing.
@@TeacherFlash Thanks for the reply. I know the drill type you mention (black and decker). These type of tools have solid carbon brushes that no one every replaces and the cooling fan could not keep the grip from getting so hot the plastic started to spread on just about all of them. They had one big 'metal' crown gear and a worm drive off the armature. They worked well. Now I know the heat is something that burns them out and putting a load on them causes them to heat up hotter and faster. That's what happens to the big crown gear in many of those add on heads. They are fine for about 15 minuets continuous but the heat travels down the pinion and across to the big crown gear, which is often thermoplastic which reaches the vicat temp and off come all the teeth. Not nice in a tool only 15 minuets old....that I agree. As a continuous mixer, on a light duty drill, that is going to hurt somewhere in a short time. But most of the "plug in the wall" tools are not light duty and can snap your wrist if you let them. I could hack saw that tubing in 1/2 the time than that but that was not his point. He was showing how if you had to cut through 2" of steel rod that you could leave this running while sitting on the toilet. The problem really is in the tool itself. If its got plastic gearing....its a toy. The carbon brush drills are getting long in the tooth and if tools were still made in Canada/America...brushes would have been long ago replaced.
A friend of mine has a powered hacksaw in his workshop that works with the same reciprocating system as this but the connecting rod attaches to a flywheel rather than a crank, the flywheel creates inertia and allows the beam of the saw to be weighted in order to put more pressure into the cut making the machine cut quicker.
Converting circular motion into straight motion is a nice project but just using a cutoff saw is easier. Also extending the base so he the drill has a cradle to hold it stable from the bottom would be easier.
Yes, but not everyone can afford much tooling, and quite a few of those already have a drill and a welder, making this a decent project to make from scrap, and when the saw pays itself off and brings in enough cash to buy a proper bandsaw, then those who could not afford one before, can now, and they didnt have to spend money on a buzzsaw or handsaw their elbows into dust... I myself hate handsawing and hate using a zipdisc on a grinder... I do use a large 180 mil zip disc on a wood saw to cut metal, but that is only because i have other machines that i used to make an adapter to make a woodsaw accept a zipdisc...
Really cool project and a great way to cut metal without a bandsaw. Probably be a lot better to make some bearing housings to press fit the crankshaft bearings into and weld those to the crankshaft rather than just welding the bearings directly though. Much easier to just replace the bearings when they wear out, and stick welding to the alloys in bearing casings is never going hold up well to vibration in the long run. Also, if you don't want to wear gloves to weld then that's on you, but please tell me you're at least wearing goggles or a welding mask for all those welds!
if you had a longer base, you could have made a clamp or a notch or installed a vise to hold the drill steady so it isnt trying to torque itself out of your hand xD very cool project, i wish i had one!
wow, this is what you call "mixed metal" welding project. surprising this much work was put in because pre-existing power hacksaw machines are very inexpensive.
Nice jop , interesting project. Man now in this days you can buy a metal saw portable and professional with 3 years guarantee for peanuts , like €100 or $80-$90 and your jop is perfect!!!!
100% thought someone’s wife was going to be very happy and it turned out to be a saw.
Shirley a few wives would be happy to use the saw on a member....
Lmfao! I mean with a few changes, it could still be done.

Very ingenious invention. Some very bright people out there! Congratulations.
wow wow wow, you definitely won my heart, excellent invention!!!
LIKE from Brazil 👏👏👏...
if you want to ruin your drill, then go ahead and do this but a drilling machine is not meant to be used this way. It's motor will die quickly...
HAHAHA Yes

Amaizing 👍👍👍🙏
عالی بود و خیلی خیلی جالب ممنون از شما
Good job!! Wouldn’t the blade last longer if you had a cutting oil dripping on the blade too?
Haha awesome 👍 .. totally unexpected
*You are a manufacturing expert. I'll try to do it.*
Can we take a moment and respect a man who welds using NO GLOVES?! I mean - WOW!
And removes swarf off a spinning drill bit with hts bare hands.
And never use oil while drilling! Good drill bits, love to know the brand!
@@PoisonShot20 Probably makes drill bits himself
I'm not sure respect is the most appropriate response to wanton disregard of basic safety measures, but hey, you do you.

Excellent 👌👌👌🌹
Helpful vidio. Thank you and keep going with your best idea and inovation great appesiation from Timor Leste 🇹🇱🇹🇱🇹🇱
Very inventive! What I actually want to know is… how does that electric metal circle cutter @0:26 actually work & where can I find one or build one???
Plasma cutter 🤓
Thats a plama cutter in some contraption he made for adjustment for different dia.
BUEN TRABAJO, EXCEPTO POR LA QUITADA DE LA VIRUTA METÁLICA DE LA BROCA GIRANDO,...!!!!!
Never seen better CNC machine!
You are right...
I didn't know of this function of a DRILL Machine
Awesome 👌
very nic 👏👏👏
Cool hobbies, how do you do any type of angle cut?
Add another vise?
You did everything right, but you didn't use springs to hold the saw blade down?
will you please explain why you tack everything and not run a bead and why not use the mig
This is amazing Tool sir....
Wha give Name Its ? Power HackSaw or Bandsaw
Good work keep them comin when ya got nothin You make it work nice to see Lot better than By Hand
Joss , bagus . So creative.

Mr safety's here..
Also, probably easier to buy a beefy motor to dedicate to this instead of wearing out that drill motor with plenty of life left in it
Nice.useful specially machine works and blacksmith people.
Nice but drawer railings not durable as does not have bearings ?

what type of welding machine is this?
WOW, excellent work! I would connect an induction motor and belt transport instead of the angle grinder transport box.

Well, there is something to be said about the satisfaction of making something yourself.
