Jennifer you have totally changed my life. I am a single mum of 5 and I work as a nurse here in Glasgow. Your advice has given me and my children financial security for the future, I thank you from the bottom of my heart x
Your channel is so brilliant, Jennifer. Thank you for everything that you do, it's made a real difference to my life already and I'm sure to many others too.
Completely agree, Mike! Thank you, Jennifer. Since getting into learning about finances in the summer we’ve now paid off our 3 small loans and are debt free apart from the mortgage. We’ve now set up a standing order to overpay the mortgage each month by 100%, I love seeing how overpaying will affect the length! We’re also now saving and have an emergency fund, investing and investing for our children each month all because of your channel and others’. Thank you for all your hard work, you’ve changed our lives!
As a fellow Scotsperson (Aberdeen) , I just want to say thank you for being honest about your mental health difficulty. Despite a successful and lucrative career in the oil industry, I was diagnosed with depression. This came totally out of the blue for me and at first I thought the doctor was bonkers.... I was at the peak of my professional career and had never earned so much? Then I began to study and research the subject and began to understand that I wasn't going mad after all, in fact I was much more 'normal' than I realised. Congratulations on a very informative and calmly presented channel that does not reply on 'hype and fantastic claims'. It is very refreshing to find a presenter with their feet on the ground. And thanks once again for bringing the often hidden and taboo subject of mental health into the open - we all have to realise that it is part of life and the more we share and converse about it, the easier it will be for those that are experiencing difficulties to reach out and get the helping hand we all need sometimes. Carry on with the great advice - Cheers
Thank you Ron for that message - this is where I hope my channel can reach people who are perhaps struggling and show that there is hope at the other side. Sometimes we just need someone to give us a hand on our way but we always figure it out. To your financial and life success ahead!
When my husband and I first met we both had consumer debt from previous relationships and we managed to clear £12,500 in the year before we got married. It was really tough and we both had two jobs but we had no children at the time and lived rent free so it made things easier but it still meant selling a car, living on jacket potato and buying nothing for the whole year but we managed it between us. We both looked at our debt as a joint venture and it was never looked at in terms of ‘your’ debt and ‘my’ debt it was just ‘the debt’
I started investing during the crash last March. You were one of the first people I would follow. I haven't watched one of your videos for a few months (although I've recommended you to friends who are recently beginning to invest). I never knew you had mental health issues - you always seem so settled and that your head is screwed on and you have everything in place. I am very surprised, but I like you even more now! You're also very likeable. Thank you for being so real and transparent: showing your portfolio and more importantly: opening up about your issues. Believe me - a lot of us have struggled during Lockdown. Big up yourself! Nuff respect, from a random guy of similar age in London
Thank you Buzz - I'm just like everyone else, just I'm hoping that my own journey with money for many years means I can share those experiences with others too and help them. It's been 2 years since my breakdown, might do an update video soon to help spread the word more and help others who might be struggling.
It's incredible you share all of these high value information for free. I only can say thank you and buy your product. I bought your book and product from your Etsy shop and both are very useful. Thank you Jennifer.
Great video Jen. No inheritance, no help. I was working while studying in medical school to be able to finance myself. Graduated, and got a job where I worked for 2years. I’d put money aside from what I was earning and invested into the the trade market. Third year and I left my job after making of 5 figures in residual income from trading. Now, I’m planning on getting a place to do what I love the most which is photography. I’m still a doctor regardless.
I've been following your videos throughout the year and what I wanna say is: THANK YOU! Honestly, my favourite channel about finances. So clear and straight to the point. I've learned a lot with you, Jen. And put many many learnings in practice (and started seeing the return... yay!). A great 2021 to you and your family.
I started investing in vanguard in May of 2019 thanks to you and your videos best decision I ever made. I'm well aware that investments go down as I've seen it this year go down to -23% more or less and it was quite scary but like you said yourself you only lose money when you cash out. I left it there and now i'm looking at +33.21% which is absolutely bonkers. Thanks again for all the information you put out there hope you and your family are well and safe during these troubling times.
Thank you. Wish I had done this years ago. Retirement is imminent and the pension pot small! However I see that I can improve my lot with watching this. Many thanks
I didn’t think ANYONE would help me understand all this! You really explain everything so clearly. Thank you. I’ve got so many to catch up on being a new sub xxx
This was really great Jennifer, thanks for sharing it! Love the fact that the whole family is involved, financial education is essential regardless the age. Wish you and your family all the best for 2021 :-)
Wow! I've just found your channel. Thank you for explaining this subject, it was something I've always been wary of. You've explained it easily, so Im now going to step into this in the next few weeks. I'm going to spend some time going through your vlogs, needless to say I've also subscribed. Thank you once again.
Thanks Jennifer for your transperancy. Excellent video! Since my daughter Abbigail introduced me to your channel a few months ago, I have subscribed. You have not failed to deliver value. Thanks a lot!
23:58 - So many people get this wrong, you are absolutely right to NOT be constantly checking your accounts. Most people sell low, buy high purely because their mindset gets in the way. Don't watch your investments. Imagine they are expenditures and don't expect to get your money back. Also Warren Buffet says imagine you could only make 10 investments in your lifetime, you would be very careful as to what you pick and have the long term mentality he has. Great video!
Awesome content. Any particular reason for the preference towards the LS100 as opposed to the FTSE Global All Cap - Accumulation? I am about to start maxing out my S&S ISA every year and considering between the two! I am just a tad uncomfortable with the heavier weighting towards UK equities with the LS100. Thanks!
@@JenniferAMThomson You’re very welcome. I’ve downloaded the spreadsheet from Etsy. Love it and it’s inspired me to start giving - am gonna buy £50 of food each payday and take it to a homeless kitchen in my area. That’s 100% your influence so well done spreading such a positive message.
My latest reading on Trading212 is a current return of 15%!! I should invest more. My top 2 are Tesla (+60%) and Under Armour (+50%). Just started with etoro so getting used to it. I found your portfolio but haven't copied it yet. Never heard of Vanguard until I found your channel. I too, am getting similar returns. Fantastic.
Amazing progress so far guys! Loved seeing your portfolio :) I've started sharing my own now as well, feel it's going to be really good for my saving and accountability to keep things moving forward! Thanks again for the inspiration :) Tom
Any chance of a video on paying off the mortgage off - overpayments and investments to pay it off? Are you looking to move to a larger house in the future? Loving the videos. Thanks Sue
Hi Jennifer, im quite new to your channel and across your channel about a week ago. I love your videos and found this one particularly useful, as I have a similar set up. Its nice to know im on the right track. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to your next one. 😀👍🏽
Great to hear that you are planning on trying to move your money into socially responsible investments. Nutmegs socially responsible funds have outperformed the general managed funds. Something to consider as it works similar to vanguard in that you don't have to manage anything. Just set up a regular payment and forget about it!
Great video. I've been saving in moneybox for a few years to get started saving. It's in -% at the moment (went for SR maybe too early as it's still a little unstable using those portfolios on there) but I know if I'll leave it I'll improve. My safest additional saving option at the moment I think to get my first property is a LISA now. I've been practicing with etoro with the virtual account. Although I'm green on that I know additional costs or purchases can be riskier so might just put a few hundred in for a year and see how it goes. Yours is one of the sites that has helped some more sensible saving ideas, particularly as many of us from more working backgrounds are often only shown what the bank we got at 18 has to offer (which at the moment is pretty terrible saving options in most cases). Different levels of savers can look at these vids and improve an element in some way. I've not saved loads, but at least have doubled the amount going into savings in the past year which is a healthy start. I hope younger folk get taught this at school/college really as it can really help as a safety net for anyone really. Have you approached any ideas relating to teaching younger people how to save? What would you tell your 18 year old self in order to get them to be more responsible (and how would you help them to actually listen to the advice!). Thanks!
Thanks Jennifer, love your videos- so informative and give a real insight into how to invest. Love your accent too! If I was to pick between Trading 212 and Etoro as a novice beginner, which would you recommend out of the two?
Transaction fees using limit orders are much lower in coinbase pro compared to market orders. Coinbase's market orders incur higher fees. Transfer of both cash and cypto is also instant and easy. Worth checking out if you haven't already done so. Your etoro reviews make me want to have a go at it. RR, CINE and AML were dirt cheap with proportional risk at some points over the summer. That 150%+ looks real nice on cine :)
Hi @MamaFurFur , those investment holdings you showed us on Vanguard account , are those your kids or yours? Where can I have a simplified view of each of those products ( what markets they cover , what's the risk etc...? ) , thanks you very much , PS - you do Public service , this kind of stuff should be taught at school since young age!! once again THANK YOU
I started watching you in a place of being stuck. The reason I stayed because you are based in UK and I can relate to that the most. A year on, I have ISA investments account, multiple steams of income and some bitcoin. Thank you.
I enjoyed this video very much! Can I ask, do you have a lifetime ISA? And would you invest in one for retirement in addition to your vanguard to get the 25% government bonus as well as investment returns?
I have been trying to research and find out how i can make extra money and learn about the stock market so i can be home with my girls it always boils down to a confidence issue for me and uncertain of where to start. I to recently had a mental breakdown aftet an experience with MLM. Ive downloaded Trading 212 im just really confused by it all... You really do inspire me and i love your channel
Thanks for this Jennifer. I started investing in September after finding your channel. As a boy from East Kilbride, hearing someone talking about investing in a familiar accent and without lots of sensational get-rich-quick spiel, I was interested straight away and your channel continues to deliver. Authenticity goes a long way. Thank you. You've positively contributed to my future, I'm sure of it.
Great video Jen. I’d be interested to hear how you plan to alter your portfolio as you get closer to your planned retirement date e.g do you plan to reduce equity and increase bonds in future?
Great video thanks. Is that 27.5% year on year average or the total growth over the life? If the latter, that is pretty low (depending the number of years - but you said quite a lot of time). The Vanguard Life strategy claims 100% growth over the last 5 years. Have you only had it for a couple of years? Like the idea of trading 212.
Hi Jennifer loved the video sorry if I missed it but why did you choose pension bee over vanguard for your pension? Isn't vanguard's fee lower and would make sense if you have isa with them? Your thoughts?
hey, quick question, does vanguard pay dividends of the etfs you own(for ex. vusa.l s&p500 etf) directly in the vanguard account or it reinvest your dividends? can you choose to have them paid in your bank account? thanks!
You should always check your work pension regularly to make sure your payments are going in. Was made redundant a couple of years ago, decided to check my pension and payments hadn't gone in for the previous 18 months. Pensions regulator not interested. Action fraud not interested. Got the money eventually but wish I had been on top of it.
Happened to me last year with my current employer. Did not add a whole year of contributions. Thankfully I noticed it and after many phone calls and emails it’s been added now
Thank you so much Jennifer. Fantastic and informative as always. It was your video's that inspired me to start educating myself and make my money work hard and go further for my future. Thank you!
Thank you, I generally thought I could only have a Funds & shares isa with Vanguard for my LS100... but in reality I can have many multiple general accounts so I can use HL,Trading 212
Hi, hope you had a super Christmas - thanks for sharing your portfolio! Just working through your videos on pensions, if I understand correctly, for your current employer, if you want the benefit of their contribution you usually have to stick with their choice of scheme. For existing pots from ex employers, you can transfer those into a private pension for example using Pension Bee and then start contributing to that larger fund. I guess as you leave employers you can then just continue to add that to your larger private pot? Thanks! :)
Exactly, that's how I've done it too. With your current employer you'll have to stay with the platform they choose, but you do have the option to log in and change the fund it's invested in. They usually auto select a super low risk fund for you, which don't tend to grow very much, so is worth looking into the other options they offer, maybe a global equity fund or something like that :)
Thank you for this Video. I love your introduction. I want to leave my corporate job but I just have the fear. I want to start investments and creating my own side hustles and investing in property’s but it’s great motivation to see this 👍🏻
Great video! As you mention, you use a Stocks and Shares ISA for your Trading 212 account but also a Vanguard account. As the UK government does not allow an investment into the same type of ISA on two different platforms each year does this mean there are separate rules for having a family one?
At around 7.10 Jennifer mentions she owns a general account for Trading 212. Just before this, she mentions how her main portfolio/investment is within a Vanguard investment ISA. Hope that helps!
Do you have a problem with the life strategy 100 having 20% UK bias as a problem? The FTSE Global All Cap Index Fund is a more diverse portfolio and thus a better pick over the life strat 100?
Hi Jennifer, Great video for investment options. I have been interested in Vanguard for a while to expose my capital to the stock market ( index ISA blends ). I will certainly be watching your content regarding Vanguard. I am an experienced crypto trader. All I can say about the crypto market is that it is not for the faint of heart. The no risk no reward is not everyone's cup of tea. There is not a single app or website that teaches a person resilience, or removing the intense emotional attachment to money. Mortgage free at 30, and looking forward to a bright financial future from your vids.
Great video Jen. I use trading 212 and am putting every spare cash I can into Tesla. When Space X Starlink goes onto the stock market I'll invest in that too. I also put £100 a month into a Vanguard isa that you recommended. Thank you for everything you do and the great advice. 😀
Can I ask you if you know of any people doing this for a French public ? The tax system is different here in France so I'd like to tailor to this market. I love your vids and am just starting out at 53, I've just opened an Etoro account and I'm learning with my 17 yr old ! Looking forward to all your advice and tips, thanks for the wonderful content.
Hi there - normally they will include Islamic or Shariah in the ETF name. I would also recommend using a stock information app such as Genuine Impact that can give even deeper info where possible.
This information is gold and our kids need to be taught this to be financially savvy for their lifetimes, just like Jennifer's children would seem to be learning good money habits now as they grow up. Great video and well done on your investments - need to do the same for my wife and I although we do have our employer pensions invested in right now, we do need to invest for long-term income soon before it's too late for it to make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble in preparing the video. It is greatly appreciated. Quick question , when you mentioned about the increase in your portfolio. Some 27%. How many years of investing is that over. So if that was over 10 years, then that is a return of 2.7% per year. What should one achieve in growth of a portfolio per year in % terms? Thank you
Great video. Thanks for sharing, some nice gains there!
Thanks for watching!

Authenticity goes a long way. Thank you. You've positively contributed to my future, I'm sure of it.
Great part of Glasgow to be from, I'm from the South Side born and raised.
"give your self a clap on the back" @1.37 lol great video though
Great video Jen. I’d be interested to hear how you plan to alter your portfolio as you get closer to your planned retirement date e.g do you plan to reduce equity and increase bonds in future?
It lovely to see you teaching your children too ! Great !
Yes, thank you
Great video thanks.
I'm about to buy my first property and I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing your tips!
You are so welcome!
Hi Jennifer loved the video sorry if I missed it but why did you choose pension bee over vanguard for your pension? Isn't vanguard's fee lower and would make sense if you have isa with them? Your thoughts?
hey, quick question, does vanguard pay dividends of the etfs you own(for ex. vusa.l s&p500 etf) directly in the vanguard account or it reinvest your dividends? can you choose to have them paid in your bank account? thanks!
Love it! Its great how you showed different ways of investing...esp for pensions. Thanks for sharing with us 😊
You are so welcome!
Best Channel for anything to do with your Money
Keep the Great videos coming 👏🏻👍🏻
Much appreciated!
You are amazing - thank you for sharing your experience. It's made a real difference to me and so many other people x
You're so welcome!
Thanks your videos are very informative, im new to investing, so im taking in your advice
Thankfully I noticed it and after many phone calls and emails it’s been added now
I’m glad on the same page as somebody else, pretty much use exactly the same investments as you!
Great vid, and thanks for the chapters. Makes it easier to find topics
Glad you like them!
Very strong and diversified portfolio 👏🏾👏🏾
Another great video. Fantastic content. Look forward to watching more.
Thank you so much Jennifer. Fantastic and informative as always. It was your video's that inspired me to start educating myself and make my money work hard and go further for my future. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Such a great video Jennifer. Very helpful & insightful. Really interested in the social responsibility funds as you move forward.
You are so welcome!
You are amazing. Honest and informative. You have a fan in me.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video love the honestly, so frustrating that money can be such a taboo! Great to see where you put your money! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video, thank you! Subscribed - Happy new year!
Happy new year!
Thank you, I generally thought I could only have a Funds & shares isa with Vanguard for my LS100... but in reality I can have many multiple general accounts so I can use HL,Trading 212
Thanks for being so transparent Jennifer! 🙏🏾
You are so welcome!
They usually auto select a super low risk fund for you, which don't tend to grow very much, so is worth looking into the other options they offer, maybe a global equity fund or something like that :)
hi is it possible to invest with vanguard and do 5 pounds a day or they have a set option every month
Thanks for sharing your portfolios! Some nice returns!
Glad you like them!
Hi Jennifer,
Great video for investment options.
My trading 212 account is up 27% but I only have a few hundred in there lol can’t wait to be able to invest much more
It's about starting small and getting used to what you investing in and gaining knowledge and confidence , good luck in your investments journey
Great video Jen. I use trading 212 and am putting every spare cash I can into Tesla. When Space X Starlink goes onto the stock market I'll invest in that too. I also put £100 a month into a Vanguard isa that you recommended. Thank you for everything you do and the great advice. 😀
Lovely to see you Nye in the comments again! Wishing you a great 2021.
Have 3,000 Vodafone shares still down but on the up now hoping for a big profit in the coming years great video thanks for sharing
Loving your videos! :D Quick Q - which platform(s) do you think are good to invest in to start receiving dividends?
New to your channel, wow! Huge value in your portfolio, really appreciate your honesty and transparency, keep it up 👍
I appreciate that!
Thanks for the information on pension bee doing sharia pensions.
Do you know which ETFs are sharia complaint?
Hi there - normally they will include Islamic or Shariah in the ETF name. I would also recommend using a stock information app such as Genuine Impact that can give even deeper info where possible.
@@JenniferAMThomson thanks soo much
This information is gold and our kids need to be taught this to be financially savvy for their lifetimes, just like Jennifer's children would seem to be learning good money habits now as they grow up. Great video and well done on your investments - need to do the same for my wife and I although we do have our employer pensions invested in right now, we do need to invest for long-term income soon before it's too late for it to make a difference.
excited to start in a couple months!
Thank you
