Watched your 2 hr vid as well, and gotta say you are dropping some fat gems. I've used Pro MB a lot for expansion, but seeing you use it made me realize how much easier it can be to set up than what I've done previously. Keep em coming 👌😎
Really like this technique. I have used hallway mics, and "out in the house" mics like this, but with the Black Salt Audio gate on the room. Its mostly a cymbal bleed setting, but with the attenuation really low, and some high pass eq I get a similar effect. The room mics always give the snare that "body" that's lacking in close mics. Good video!
@@oldguysplaymetal5517 yeah man I love room and hallway mics, they make the recordings so unique. I’ve seen the BSA silencer a lot and I’ve been very interested to get it. Thanks dude I appreciate you!
Your little bit at the end about using this with busses is really a lightbulb moment for me for live sound. I'm always having to be so careful about blending the vocals with the instruments but using sidechain compression and expansion makes a ton of sense to help reduce my time riding the vocal bus fader
@@kronik907 I’ve been wanting to do it live! We just don’t have the full super rack soundgrid we moved ours at the church to broadcast and FOH is just using super rack performer with only vocals going through. I’d love to be doing this live sidchaining the guitars and instrument bus to the vocals, those guitars eat up so much headroom
@@david_djent I do the broadcast mix live to video for my church on a Wing, and the wing has a built in 3 band compressor/expander that takes up an FX slot, or a single band compressor/expander that can replace the built in gate slot on any channel or bus without taking up an effects slot. Both options can accept a sidechain trigger from a different channel or bus. I'm already trying to work through exactly how I would set things up, but I'm excited about how I can best use those slots to help glue my mix together better.
@@kronik907 ahhh I see, I’m on the DM7 and most of our DSP real estate is used up but I may look at reallocating inserts to use the multiband comp on there

Why didn’t we use the iPhone audio!? That sounded so sick! 😂 1:23
Bro what sucks is my iPhone didn’t record the audio, just the screen so I had to take all your audio from my lav mic lol
