Coffee Grinder Restoration & Customization - Making a New Drawer with xTool D1 Pro Laser

  • In this restoration video, I'll bring an antique coffee grinder produced by the KBS company back to life.
    Short info about restoration:
    The restoration process was challenging because all the parts were rusty and chipped. The coffee grinder was built from several elements that I had to restore one by one. Also, this video is not strictly about restoration but also a bit of customization. The coffee grinder will remain in my collection, and I decided to make it to my taste.
    It took me a week to get this result, and I hope you like it, especially the color I chose, chocolate bronze! Delicious!
    In this video, you'll see ceramic repair with epoxy resin and hardener (a relatively new process you probably never encountered on TH-cam). I like to bring new stuff into my videos and experiment. Powder coating, wood restoration (making a new drawer with the xTool laser), sandblasting, tin metal welding, laser engraving, and laser cutting with the xTool D1 Pro laser machine, in addition to the usual details of restoration work.
    Short info about this antique coffee grinder:
    I bought it at a flea market in Krakow for $5, thinking it would make a great restoration video. After some research on the internet, I discovered that this beautiful coffee grinder is worth much more; prices range from $70 to $120, depending on the condition. This antique utensil is gorgeous but has been beaten by time.
    I still haven't found out precisely what KBS stands for; it's short for the name of the company that made this coffee grinder. It's probably German, but I couldn't find any information about this company anywhere. It has disappeared with time. If you have any knowledge about this, please feel free to comment.
    I love how this antique KBS coffee grinder turned out, and I'm glad I was able to save it from decay.
    It is now perfectly functional and can be used again!
    PS: It makes delicious coffee!
    I hope you will enjoy this video!
    Johnny

    Я бы опять покрасила в красный). Я обожаю красный и зелёный на старых вещах. Они такие красивые. Сейчас такие цвета почему-то редкость

    Moja babcia miała właśnie taki, kręciliśmy nim pieprz jako dzieci, nawet nie wiedziałem, że ma regulacje wielkości ziaren. W oryginale był koloru podkładówki, ciemnoczerwony, albo już tak sie wytarł, włącznie z górną częścią. Części metalowe miał tak samo zardzewiałe jak ten na początku.
    Ja bym logo umieścił od spodu, nie byłoby narażone na zabrudzenie mielonymi rzeczami, a dostępne tylko dla co bardziej dociekliwych.

    I think I like them mounted on a base board so you don’t have to hold the body while grinding. I’ve seen them both ways .lovely!

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      This one wasn't designed to be mounted on a board, but previous owner did it, had some little holes pierced randomly. I will let the next owner to choose how he wants it 😌

    • @rustyshadesrestoration

    Not up to your usual standards.

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean?

    • @LadyGecko
      @LadyGecko ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ceramic dish was very rough. The cut edges of the box for the coffee grounds was black from the laser and there was discoloration along the edges so the box looks cheaply made. And if I was the end user, the engraved logo INSIDE of the box would have been very annoying as grounds would get into it. But this is just my opinion.

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      😅

    • @rustyshadesrestoration
      @rustyshadesrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your sincerely feedback. The ceramic looks that way because it is quite impossible to make it look better, that's why you will not see any restorers doing that in any video. I didn't care about beautiful finish so much compared with how much I cared to show that's possible to repair it. (It is a challenge). About the drawer, it is your choice to like it or no. For me was interesting to customise it using the laser machine. (also something different and unusual). I like from time to time, to test and create stuff not following some certain rules/standards. Life is boring with too much rules 🙂

    • @LadyGecko
      @LadyGecko ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't disagree with you, but I now have to express a concern in light of your stated value on the item (you bought it for $5.00, but how it was worth much more...$70 to $120) which would leave folks with the impression that if they do what you just did, they can in turn sell the item for that amount. And that is not true. I own quite a few vintage items including a coffee grinder and there is a definite price difference between 'rescues' and 'restorations' and this is a rescue.
