    I must have a Mk0 battery because mine has the round button but 4 lights around it instead of underneath.

    Good video Steve!
    Two things - a 20% failure rate for batteries (or anything) would be considered unacceptable by just about any other manufacturer and it's great to see Gtech taking the issue, but they have yet to solve their servicing and spare parts issues.
    So great to see things moving in a positive direction and I hope that will apply to serving and parts supply too.

    Great video once again. I've had the need to contact Gtech customer suport recently and can say that they have been really quick to respond and very helpful.

    I have an intermittent fault with my bike (done 75 miles). I contacted Gtech and they offered me a discounted rear wheel as out of warranty. I fitted it and it worked initially. Next morning I set off and no power at all, had to ride it manually. Not what I bought it for! So when I returned from holiday, I rang Gtech for advice, they told me my wheel is under warranty so they would replace it. I don’t think it’s the wheel at all. Do you know what I can look for with it. I am mechanically minded and I’m going to check the battery mount connections. I’ve tried pulling the connector at the crank apart and back to see if it’s a faulty connection. Doesn’t make any difference. I will report back if I find a fault. Thank you.
    I have 2 Mk1 batteries, fully charged and have tried both, but no joy!

      Just received my new replacement battery. Awesome customer service ☺️. Just a note old battery is giving code 02 overheating, was at 36%. Same battery also will drop and show 08, but no power.

      You can still get V1 batteries from Gtech and I'd be surprised if any of this new design will also be done for the V1. I really wonder why Gtech moved the pins for the V2.

    Hi , I can see the different font on the later 2 batteries but is there a way of telling them apart? In other words can you tell the ‘new’ (improved) battery from the previous version (number 3) thanks.

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The older mk2 batteries are a little different on the front however if you but directly from Gtech (Ideally during one of the monthly 20% off weekends) you'll get the latest version.

    • @andrewoxley2350
      @andrewoxley2350 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes I usually post on Gtechfacebook when 20% offers on. It was more out of interest to determine if my batteries are ‘version’ 3 or 4 (latest) probably can’t differentiate externally, thanks for the reply.

    Just watched a couple of your videos and found them very helpful. I have a first generation V2 battery which today failed. It was fine to 73% then directly went to zero%. Hard ride home but probably good for me. My wife's Gtech has a V2 battery which continues to perform. Looks like I will have to replace mine so hoping they have a discount soon.
    PS Very jealous of your Tesla S but at 76 probably would get me into trouble. Thanks

      Thanks!
      That’s about what happened to my one too.
      I’ll link below to a video where I froze a battery and bought it back to life. It might just work.
      Buy the Tesla! 76 is no age and you’ll love it.
      Take care.

    Hi, thanks for the video. Is there any way of telling if you have a new battery? Such as looking at the serial/product number on the back of the battery. Thanks.

      Hi!
      The display is slightly bolder with bigger text.
      Easiest way to tell is with charge times.
      The new one will charge in abut 2h15m compared to 3h25h (ish).
      Full battery review coming out Dec 10th.

      Thought I'd have an old battery as it came with the bike but tested the charge time and it took just under 2hr15mins. So looks like I got lucky with new stock 😁👍🏽

    Hi Steve, great video as usual, I keep checking the Gtech website, and various e bike retailers, for the Gtech Sport e bike. Gtech have been out of stock for almost a year. I emailed their customer services, and they were pretty vague and just said they couldn't tell me when they will be back in stock, but they still advertise them with a price on the website.
    You quite often come up with information that's not available elsewhere and hoped you might have some insight with this? Any info would be welcomed, many thanks.

      Hi,
      If you’re on FB, try the UK owners group, there’s generally a couple for sale there.
      If not, people in the group may have an idea as there’s a few posts saying ‘just got my bike’.
      Good luck!

    Gtech Mountain eBike | question. I'm assuming the gears allow the rider to exceed the 15MPH? Cycling my eSport top speed was limited by single gear i.e. no coasting for long before you needed to start pedaling again. When I was younger I would peddle an average 20 to 25 mph. eSport simply not possible.

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, top assisted speed on the eScent feels higher and the gears mean you can outpace the bike if needed (or ride easier without the battery on)

    Great video as always,but can V2 battery be used on V1 ? If not why not ? My V1 bike is coming up for 5 yrs old,have replaced original battery with eBay buy (lucky it was good, but wouldn’t do it again, sometimes silly prices and too many duff batteries around) is my expensive bike only as good as my battery is? Do I have to face the fact that I’ll have to convert to other make battery pack,ok rant over cheers

      Hi Robin!
      You’ll be fine with getting new V1 batteries.
      They’re not listed on the Gtech Website though, you’ll need to phone them.
      Wait for a 20% off weekend if you can to get it for £240.
      Cheers
      Steve

    I don't think Cycle Republic went bankrupt as they were wholly owned by Halfords I think they closed the stores as overall they weren't profitable so were dragging Halfords profits down. Probably a poor move with the huge sales of cycles due to Covid 19, they probably could have kept them open another year or so but I guess they had the closures planned before the pandemic.
    The battery packs are likely manufactured in China and unsure if you meant a battery manufacturer there has gone out of business and been replaced by the factory that built the mk 1 batteries. As consumers we don't normally get access to info on which factories are used in China. I have no idea which factory makes the Gtech bikes in the far east. There are companies like fuji-ta that make a lot of bikes for western brands.
    I think the Gtech batteries are more prone to problems due to their small capacity. The larger the capacity of a battery the better it will cope with huge current demands. If a battery contains 50 18650 cells it will last longer than a small battery with only 20 cells of the same type because the smaller battery will be under more strain if the motor wants peak current lets say of 10A. The Gtech battery gets a much harder life than other ebike batteries of higher capacity. My ebike has a battery of 48V, 12.5A with I think a claimed exact watt capacity of 624Wh it weighs about 3x that of a Gtech battery although that maybe because it uses the respectable and cheap but not high performance Samsung 2500mAh cells so is a heavier pack.
    Once people's bikes are out of warranty perhaps it would be worth hacking a standard battery pack in place of the Gtech battery. Maybe a hailong battery pack. Depending on how the Gtech battery works you might also need a separate controller box if that is integrated in the battery.
