Cheers Reviews is the heartland of all things Bass.
Got one of these recently, just my overall go to bass to work out stuff for fun, pulled the pick guard off mine and kept it, just looks much better aesthetically
Hey, Jaco, used round wound strings if Jaco can do it certainly I can 8:51
I heard jaco only used his bass with round wounds during performances, since the fretboard could be damaged.
That's not what he said in the interview i saw last night, he said "his fretless standup bass split into pieces because of the climate where he lived over night, and he could not afford a new fretless, so he took his kitchen knife ( not a butterknife, that would honestly be impossible ) and removed his frets and filled the fret gaps with either epoxy or some superglue i can't recall what he used right now without re watching that specific interview but he did not use a butter knife that's for sure :)
Great video on the fretless bass.
I have the same squire 60s vibe fretless jazz bass...and its sounds and feel awesome👌
did you make a video on the vintage modified? i wanna do a comparison with this video.
Unfortunately the vintage modified is long gone, but yes that would have made a great comparison. Good luck with your search and thanks for watching
It's time to wake up man
Unfortunately
Thanks for this video, I currently have a fretted version of the same bass and getting annoyed with the string buzz. I got it tuned up at a local shop and it is still buzzing. I'm new to bass. Do you think fretless will almost eliminate the buzzing?
Can you play with out the picgaurd? Just like jacos bass
Is there a hole for wires behind the pickgaurd, because I want to take off the pickgaurd at times like Jaco. I have another jazz fretted bass and there’s an area for all the wires behind the pickgaurd.
No holes behind the pick guard
👍
Who is Yako? Haha. BTW, that was a good question about Fretboard on fretless bass. :) Excellent video! I have 4 bass guitars and am currently trying not to get interested in Fretless so your video is a sorta tease 😅
Fingerboard!
Sound very nice❤🎉
This bass doesn't mwah as much as a typical fretless would right? i'm looking for a fretless bass that doesn't "mwah" as much
I’m not sure how to answer this one accurately, but I think the ‘mwah’ levels mostly come from the type of strings that you use. Thanks for watching!
I´m late to your comment but no, it doesnt mwah that much, you can make it sound closer to a fretted bass and also get some mwah sound from it you just need to adjust your technique. the mwah sound i believe came, yes, from string type but the most important factor i believe is the coating on the fingerboard. this indian laurel comes super dry from the factory, so it soaks oil like crazy the firsts months, then it darkens and softens a little. great bass, i have a year and a half with it and love it even tho i dont use it as much as my other fretted basses but will keep it for the ocasional fretless cravings
Wow...I'm trying to find the opposite. I want a fretless that "mwah"s a LOT. Any suggestions?
It needs flat wounds
The mwah comes from the setup, you must lower the strings so they make more ‘wood’, the playing hand more to the neck, roundwounds make an easier mwah, but it is also possible with flats. Eq on the amp more mid focus. This bass could make a good mwah with these changes!
Wowee. Another bass. What’s that bass in the background that looks like a perpetual cricket trophy?
It’s an electric bass
First fretless was actually Bill Wyman of rolling stones. Great story by the way if you check it out.
Where can I get an exact fit Black Pickguard? I'd prefer not to drill new holes.
The genuine Fender ones will fit like a glove, and most likely you can get it from your local music shop. You can roll the dice with the eBay specials, but you may be a touch disappointed. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! My fretlessbass should be here today 👍😁
I have same one! It's so nice! Thanks a lot.
Well done! Thanks for watching
It’s a fretless board 😆 I’m thinking of buying one from Sweetwater this week, that’s why I’m watching all these TH-cam videos on it. Thanks for your review and of course playing it. Your review has helped me to the buy side!
Thank you for watching!
@BassTheBass I bought the Fretless Squire about a month ago. Sounds awesome, I like the sound better than my Fender Jazz Base. Getty Lee Edition.
Fingerboard
It's pronounced Jock-o. Not Yaco, he's not Portuguese. Nice vid, helpful, gonna buy one!
Juste bought the same one ! Thank you for the video you made me confident about the bass
And the string i agree arent the the right one
Enjoy! Thanks for watching
It's not "Yaco", it's Jaco. He wasn't European, he was from South Florida. Check out his son Felix. And it's not mere legend that Jaco removed his frets with a knife, etc, he definitely did. He tells the story to Jerry Jemmott ~7 minutes into this classic instructional video he made a few years before his tragic death. It's an education par excellence for any bassist. th-cam.com/video/fnHQc-gepGg/w-d-xo.html
It doesn't sound not really like a fretless..
Think it's the playing - if you look for a video by "lowendlobster" the same bass sounds very much like a fretless jazz
ITS PRONOUNCED "JOCK-O" not YACO!!!!! Jaco Pastorius!!! jeez!
What’s your last name
Prskající tóny za druhou oktávou - k ničemu !!!
Cheers!
The keyboard sucks ✌️
The keyboard is awful end doesn't sound. It should be made of Indian rosewood (very dark ) and covered with transparent epoxy paint for ships .with the right p.u.s it could play like a dream. I wish I had one. Ciao !
thanks for watching! I’ll work on the keyboard I suppose?
Did you tried ebonol keyboard on the vintage modified squire ?
can,t they get someone that can play ???
