and yes the chest hair waxing scene was real. The actress doing it had never waxed before and Steve's chest hair eventually grew back differently than it was before, plus he almost lost a nipple because she didn't use any Vaseline on it first. 😂

This movie is almost 20 years old, but it's still hilarious! The cameo with Kevin Hart playing a pissed off customer is one of my favorite parts!

I’m closing in on 40 and I relate to this movie very very much. Guys like me struggle with women their whole lives. There’s definitely not someone for everyone, but it’s nice to have a good laugh about something that hits close to home.
I think even realistically, you can make the argument that there is someone for everyone, but does that someone match your own desires for a partner, are they the type of person you're likely to encounter within public society, and do they even live close enough to you where you don't need to travel halfway across the world just to meet them? For many people, the answer is 'no,' to all of them which is why it can feel like there's no one in the world for them.
To find the right women means to sacrifice, and finding someone who is willing to do the same for you. Nothing ever worthwhile comes without a cost, or work to attain it. If you just let life happen to you, you will miss every opportunity to make something work for you and them. It's a mutual relationship. Rather than waiting for someone who's perfect for you, because, realistically, that will never happen, you have to be willing to give something up about yourself. Then work at making it work for both parties.

There are countless reasons people have this experience - everything from social hangups to living in an area where there are no singles. And if the problem is largely in someone’s head, for example, it doesn’t help saying they should try harder. Besides: Everyone’s different, there is no universal solution. I think the important message - to a stranger online whom I know nothing about - is simply this: It’s never too late. (Which by the way happens to be the message of this movie as well). Life is hard, but some things get easier over time. And there are plenty of single people in all age brackets.

What I said is true, and I don't deny there are many factors leading one to feel disparaged. But there are few ways to improve that for yourself. That was my point. Things don't just happen for some unknown reason and with that knowledge you can improve yourself. Making yourself worth more to the people around you, in turn, reaping the mutual benefits.
You did actually watch the movie right? It's not normal to be that way. And no one will fix that for yourself but you.
The actress who was teaching the sex education class for birth control is the real life wife of the main actor.
The body waxing scene was actually real. Steve actually went through it, all his and everyone else's reactions were genuine and real.
This is possibly my favorite comedy of all time. So much fun watching you two laugh watching it. You've got to get Lia, Larry, and Ellie to react to this too! Thanks! That was so much fun.

I love how the guys were in this movie. They gave each other shit, made fun of each other, called each other out but in the end they were all on the same side.

@@marleinasmom not sure, according to my father he married her for her house and she married him to be taken care of and not be alone. But they eventually fell in love some time after the marriage, and we're together until she passed around 80.
My favorite scene is the waxing scene with Andy (Steve Carell) getting his chest and belly's hair waxed by the technician. Everything for that scene is all ad-libbed or improvised. Steve agreed actual to his chest and belly waxed for that funny scene.
That collectible when Andy seeing thru its eye is a collectible named Steve Austin (Lee Majors) from 70's SCIFI TV series called Six Million Dollar Man. 1st series about cybernetic parts on a man or woman (Bionic Woman). I believe that there are episodes or clips of these series on here, YT.
You know all four of you should watch "The English Patient", a beautiful film. There are so many you haven't reviewed yet like "Dr Zhivago" (60's version), "The Mission", "Out of Africa", "Dances with Wolves", "How the West was Won".

I'm a 43 year old virgin and not ashamed at all. I might be considered an Asexual, not interested in having sex just for the sake of sex. There would have to be a high chance of a meaningful relationship, leading to marriage.
Cool. I am a 40 year old virgin but I am ashamed about it and would only mention it online and not in person unless it was with my parents . I'm definitely not asexual, just really unlucky with women. But that is cool that you are still virgin by choice at your age instead of by chance. As an update, believe it or not, I actually finally lost my virginity in October of 2023 just fifteen days before my 41st birthday to a fairly odd woman who found me appealing and it was on her 35th birthday. We had known one another for two weeks,and we met because I'm a soldier in the army who was on duty at a hospital she worked at, but I had to split up from her when it was time for me to move to another duty station.

The next role he had was "Superbad" of which Seth Rogen wrote and produced.. + It was the same producer+director from 40 year old virgin that made Superbad.. :) So I guess they all met each other on that set for the first time, and after creating 40 year old virgin - they decided to make Superbad with Jonah Hill in the leading role because they thought he was hilarious.
Actually a pretty insane story about Jonah's jump from zero to hundred in hollywood stardom.

Incredibly funny movie and great reaction. If you liked this I would also recommend both "Knocked Up" which has some of the same cast as the "40 Year Old Virgin", and "Dan In Real Life" which is a funny and sweet rom com Steve Carell stars in. Both are funny but for very different reasons.
I've known guys who were 40 year old virgins, good friends of mine and good men in general.

I can confirm the waxing was real and the girl was actually inexperienced and didn't know she wasn't supposed to put wax on the nipple and she could've ripped it apart. The cast realized it (a bit late) and stopped the shooting of this scene. The girl lied to get the part and everyone's laughter including hers was completely real. Absolutely nobody was acting during that scene.
At work we have a guy who talks too much and never gets his work done. When he tries to talk to me when it's busy, I always say "for the last time, I don't want your giant box of pornography!"

This movie is actually a hard watch for me. You may think that the notion of a 40 year old virgin is purely comedic fantasy, but there are people in this world (myself included) who know that the struggle is real. Such people have high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder… and despite being not unattractive and desperately wanting to make it happen, it's still an uphill battle all their adult lives to make sex a reality for them.
There are hookers. Even Kevin Costner relied on hookers when he was young and not famous yet, look it up. No shame in it, also you don't have to tell anyone

I'm a real life 40 year old virgin myself. As far as being comedic goes, it is not bad the movie was made like it was. The character Andy was a virgin really because he was just shy and scared to approach women. He also didn't really struggle with being such a late age virgin.
If the movie had have actually been made anything like an actual forty year old virgin then the movie would have been obviously drastically different showing his anguish especially if he was outgoing and trying to connect with women but has been perpetually rejected for years and years and years, decades. It would be pretty dark like my life feels like at times.
