I thought of a word unique to Canada or posibly even our area....."soaker". The result of stepping in water over your shoe or boot. Example...oh crap I got a soaker. Every kid knows it. It can only be used in the singular because when both feet are under water it somehow ceases to work, that is, you can't get "soakers". I have never heard the term used outside of Canada or on American TV.

'The Gong Show' was an American talent show on TV in the ... '70s - a poor act 'got the gong'.
I grew up in Windsor, but never heard 'Nicky-Nicky-Nine-Doors' till I was living in Manitoba. It was always just 'ringing doorbells' when I was a kid. In my neighbourhood, anyway.
'Hosers' I never heard till Bob & Doug came along.

There is another version of "Gong Show" that is slightly more vulgar that is gaining usage.. or maybe "gong" is the Canadian version..Hmmm.

The oh so Canadian origin of the term "hoser" dates back to before they had Zambonis. With no machines to resurface the ice ,it was the losing teams penance to flood the rink therefore identifying them as the loser. "Ehhh ya bunch of hosers "

Hoser is the guy that had to wash the ice after a hockey game. A loser.
