LA is a city of really extreme contrasts. My last visit was in 2019, and everything seems to have got worse. Anyway, loved the video. The only problem I got is your car, is pretty noisy you know 😅
only reason why it looks "worse" is because he drove through rough areas (such as skid row in the beginning) that have been a mess for decades. nothings really changed from 2019 and now.

@@boomynote In the LA area, Malibu, West LA, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Peninsula, are the "wealthy" areas. Basically the closer you get to the beach. Right outside LA is Orange County, which is basically wealthy suburbs, especially Newport Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach...

My dear hometown, Los Angeles, CA. It's been 4 years since I've left for Japan. Every single street in this video I've walked and drove through a million times over. But, after being away for awhile, it's hard to ignore how ugly and small downtown is.
Granted, LA is not really a "city" but rather a collection of suburbs under one name. I wish my hometown can return to what it was from at least 10-15 years ago when it was making a comeback and safe to walk the streets. I will visit my family later this year and it will be a little bittersweet. I know LA can turn it around if it were to ditch the politics and focus on making city life better for everyone. Hello i live in downtown la but thinking about maybe moving to Japan later on as well. So you prefer Tokyo much more over la im assuming? Also do you speak Japanese? I found I preferred la more because the language barrier. My dad lives in Tokyo though so I can visit regularly

My parents had some people living with them all my life, besides the kids. They adopted me and two other kids and then just let others stay with us.

well if you were to ACTUALLY go outside and visit/live in LA instead of relying on deranged right wingers, you would know that the area where the homeless people are at happens to be skid row. and as we all know it's been a mess for decades (and yes, it was even a mess when your daddy trump was president). the storefronts are closed because if you bothered to have even read the description, it's an EARLY morning/sunrise drive

Yes those are homeless people (or the more "appropriate" term - unhoused people). California has a huge issue with homelessness. We have spent billions of dollars trying to address this and not much progress has been made. As a matter of fact, there was a report not too long ago done that stated that California couldn't account for the 25 billion dollars that was spent trying to combat homelessness.
Part of the issue is that no one seems to agree on how to approach this. There are people who want to give the homeless free access to food and shelter; others want them to get mental health treatment; others don't see the point in wasting tax dollars on programs they don't see as valuable, etc. Its a mess. No one wants to work together and everyone just blames the other group.

Nah, NY still tops the list for now. LA's actually ranked 3rd right behind Tokyo, not too shabby. Shame LA's economic prosperity doesn't quite reflect the current reality it's dealing with, however. That can easily change with more competent city government in place, but that depends on how much the LA natives honestly give a damn about their overall well-being...
