This is also strongly implied by Shepard's Family Captain's logs. If you got to the first one it mentions a new planet and a blue one out there somewhere.
I was playing pikmin high af last night and I came to this conclusion. Oatchi has a leaf tail during gameplay and the captain says "we're not sure where Oatchi comes from, he comes from a long line of our ancestors." Also the different races or species on different planets are all human-like. They're coordinated throughout the universe, like different countries so they could come from a single origin. Yesterday I came to the conclusion that the characters were biologically engineered to perform space travel, like rovers. I think it's likely the humans biologically engineered pikmin as well for resource gathering. That would explain why the onion is a literal spaceship. The pikmin races were most likely created to command the pikmin and that's why they feel a calling to the pikmin. Pikmin only listen to these races and dogs.
A THEORY JUST HIT ME:
the koppaites can breath oxygen unlike hocotatians
but they still need to wear a suit on pnf-404 because the levels of oxygen are too high
this makes me think the reason they are smaller is because they moved to a planet with less oxygen
and their bodies adapted to that environment
they must be the closest relatives to modern humans
that also explains why they like fruit and glow sap
glow sap might taste something like maple syrup
they seem to like sweet things
hocotate must not have oxygen so they adapted to breath something else
Louie also is shown to like fruit and glow sap, and he mentions that stuff like fruit and meat are enjoyed by more than just Koppaites, so Koppaites aren't special in what they are _able_ to eat, they're just _really_ picky with what they _like_ to eat.
If there was too much oxygen it would make it hard for them to breath instead of kill them
also why their ears are more rounded

after all this time we finally know why louie's logs mention a bunch of earth ingredients with their earth names instead of names similar to food treasures
They were brought over from earth, it seems.
Louie could survive in the Oxygen ridden ship of the Koopaites without a helmet.
He is beyond all comprehension.

yesterday i was arguing with variety television about how hard and expensive it would be to grow earth fruits on koppai
and he said there was a quote from brittany saying the fruit would grow much smaller on koppai
you can apply that to humans and it explains why theyre so small
Plot twist: Pikmin is part of all tomorrow's universe
might be also the fact they're small due the real life phenomenon called insular dwarfism, which is caused by limited resources within a creature's small ambient, so it would make sense of the humanoid races in pikmin ending up like that due either the limited resources in multi-generational colony ships or limited resources on planets like Hocotate and Koppai, adding up to those planets have higher gravity than Earth/PNF-404 and there's been some scientific theories that life might be smaller on planets of high gravity to be more efficient on those conditions
i think fruit will be a big part of pikmin 5
i hope they make it more realistic
i want to see more fruit hanging from trees
i want things like breadbugs and swarming shear grubs taking the fruit
Finally someone points this out. I was thinking about that possibility when I read the Shepherd's Logs, which provides information that further supports your theory. Although, like someone comment over here, I was thinking about the possibility to them to adapt to the planet they had moved on.
I too was speculating on the subject of Hocotatians and Koppaites being miniature humans. 🤠
i dont think people became small out of the need to survive radiation. i think they became small in order to require less resorces for living aswell as to get rid of weight to help with the ability to actualy make it to their destination

I think that maybe instead of a shrink ray, the humans just evolved for their newer environments. I mean, why else would oxygen be toxic to them by the time they come back? The smallest survived because they consumed fewer resources and then passed on those smaller genes. Couple that with needing less and less oxygen and then eventually at least one of them having an odd mutation that allowed them to rely on a different gas for breathing and you've eventually got the space faring people that we all know and love!
my theory is that the humans left the planet after nuclear war
they were either in nuclear war against the umi bozu or the umi bozu was brought to earth due to the nuclear war
i just use umi bozu as a place holder for whatever the plasm wraith and water wraith are
and i do believe they are connected, im not sure if the goolix and foolix are connected to them but if they are that helps my theory
the umi bozu gets its power from humans, it could be similar to the monsters in monsters inc scaring humans to collect energy, or it could be the presence of their souls
the umi bozu restored earth to how it looked before the humans left in order to lure them back so it could get stronger
with just a couple humans on earth in pikmin 2, the water wraith was able to be killed by what are basically ants
but back when there were billions of people it probably took nuclear weapons to take it down
you can see that there are several water wraiths now that there are many more people on the planet, the umi bozu's plan is working
theres a guy who said he was gonna build houses on pnf-404
i hope we get an awesome wraith in pikmin 5

Really interesting logic. I had never really thought of the nuclear war being caused by umibozu. Also that they get stronger as more people are around. Very interesting. The only thing I had ever really thought of was the common Goolix, evolves into waterwraith, and then into plasma wraith.
like they would fight the umibozu with nuclear weapons
i think more people means its more powerful
as more people visit the planet it will evolve and get more powerful
we started with the simple goolix, then the water wraith, then the plasm wraith and all the fake creatures it was able to spawn, and now several water wraiths and the foolix in pikmin 4
when everyone left the planet it lost its power, its forever trapped on pnf-404 the best it could do was restore the planet to how it looked before everyone left to lure them back@@Invizeron
Two months late, but. When you go to see Olimars notes on the object that features two dogs, like actual dogs, he says something along the lines of; "I recognize these lifeforms. I have never seen something like it. Maybe I recognize it because of something deep within my DNA." Basically Olimar saying that at one point his species, most likley being being humans, long within the past had known normal earth dogs.
Interesting, there are probably a few other things I missed here and there with more references to support the theory.
Given the fact that Olimar's Geiger counter in Pikmin 1 was going off constantly, this theory does hold some merit.
There's also the fact that they have the same names for some things. Dogs are called dogs still, Pikpik carrots are still called carrots, and on Hocotate they even have onions (which is what the Pikmin onion is named after). That's only a few of the many things that have the same names. You could argue that its a translation thing, and that they don't actually speak our languages, but whether or not that's the case, the simple fact is they still have onions and carrots regardless. They wouldn't be called that if they weren't actually the same thing.
Don't forget that i think louie or louie's aunt in pikmin 2 says about geese, and i mean, charlie has a rubber ducky

also days on pnf-404 are much shorter than in real life
i think this is due to the nuclear war
i think pikmin 4 takes place after pikmin 3 but its also entirely possible that pikmin 3 is being retconned and pikmin 5 will take its place in the story
i think its weird to have pikmin 4 take place anywhere other than after pikmin 3
based on the intro to pikmin 3 it took a long time for koppai to find pnf-404 with the SPEROs, they would have had an easy time finding it with all people from different planets going there in pikmin 4
so i dont think pikmin 3 can take place after pikmin 4 but it could be retconned
we wont know for sure until pikmin 5 happens but it seems like koppai is running out of food again
one sunseed berry which is giant compared to the koppaites, gives you 1 days worth of juice
i assume normally each person drinks one juice per day, but alph brittant and charlie were drinking less because they had such little supply
according to variety television, brittany said the fruit would grow smaller on koppai so they would need a lot more of it to grow
and variety television says it would grow on koppai just smaller, but i dont believe it would be possible for it to grow that easily, plus why cant they grow fruit from their own planet?
did they destroy ecosystems? if so no wonder theyre in another food crisis
their "basic lack of planning" might be worse than we thought
so it would be expensive to get juice on koppai
thats why there are koppaites on the planet in pikmin 4
they are collecting treasure to raise money to help people pay for food
and the koppaites are not about to eat pikpik carrots
i heard on dr stone that people have starved because they didnt like the food they had
koppai could easily just buy carrots and other vegetables from another planet but they refuse because it doesnt suit their pallet
the koppaites are a bunch of spoiled brats really, starving to death because they daddy never told them to eat their vegetables
To go along with the theory, it’s possible that the humans who didn’t escape became pikmin and the Sage Leaf is one of if not the only one to not have completely turned.

yeah, lots of things olimar says in this game pointing towards this. There are probably more treasures and entries with additional info, these were just the big ones I found.

Shepherd's family captain's log is very ambiguous, so I think it's the opposite.
My denial: planet kagiya is originally a planet without a name.
The seventh Shepherd aims for the blue planet. I think it suggests moving from planet kagiya to pnf-404.

i thought this was obvious even though i was the only one saying it
on power rangers dino fury i heard radiation can make fruit grow larger
yeah, it was tested a long time ago, and radiation can create mutations and variations in fruit (like them being larger). There would normally be the side effect of the plant giving less seeds which makes it harder to maintain though. Of course there are a bunch of other factors but those are like 2 of the bigger ones.

And the old lifthing doesn't remember everything because wen someone becomes a lifthing doesn't die from old age but the only native is that he doesn't remember enithing but he can create new and more fun and scary memories
