US Route 22 - Altoona to Pittsburgh, PA

87 miles west, the fastest route between Pittsburgh and Altoona. Route 22 serves the eastern suburbs, turning into a congested business-oriented route west of Route 66 in Delmont (1:11:00) into Export, Murrysville, and Monroeville.

Thanks so much! I want to visit Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, and was curious if the drive had any "gotchas" to be on the lookout for. As I get older, I get less confident about driving in mountains and stuff, but this looked easy breezy.

A portion of this route is my daily commute.....Snowy weather makes it a bit tough on the drive up and down the mountain to/from Altoona.
I remember the lane closures near the Lilly Rte 53 exit....about a year or year and a half ago.

When I think of 22, I think of 22/78 through the lLehigh Valley. This is a stretch of road to be avoided during rush hour as it approches route 5 in LA for congestion.
