Would be interesting to see the difference in audio production because the multithreading of virtual instruments and plug-ins works only on the high performance cores. Theoretically the M2 Pro should be able to play more tracks.

You should do M1 Pro vs M3
it is implied .. m1 pro is within 20% of m2 pro … just a bit less performance in more demanding tasks… basically m1 pro should, no longer be a consideration today, unless you have a great discount over m2 pro (my office machine is a m1 pro 32g, which will work great for the next 3 years, i would just not buy it today)

@@Alperic27 you don’t think M1 Pro is good? It’s priced at $1399 used and at that price it’s a pretty good deal. Still better than anything else on the market. If someone doesn’t use demanding programs it’s pretty good.

The screens are actually indentical too. You have for some time been able to increase maximum SDR brightness in third party software. All Apple have done is enabled that by default on the M3

I'm a fan of refurbished Macs so I have to agree. I have an M1 Pro MBP 14 (16GB/1TB) that I got in like new condition last July. Both of the MBPs you reviewed would beat it in the benchmarks but that's not something I would notice in day-to-day use.
I got the same exact computer the same month, eBay Certified Refurbished. Incredible laptop for a great price

Compelling conclusion at the end supporting the M3 over the M2 Pro. I had purchased a base M3 without really considering the M2 Pro until recently. I'm typing now on the M3 base and was strongly considering returning it and getting a refurbished M2 Pro, but I after your video, I have my answer now. I'm keeping the M3 base which was $150 less than the refurbished M2 Pro. However, I did have to spend that $150 difference in getting a DisplayLink Dock to support a second external monitor.
How are you liking your M3 since your purchase? I’m debating between M3 and M2 pro. After watching this video and reading your comment I’m leaning towards M3. I really like the idea of having a brand new unit vs refurbished.

For me, the key difference is the loss of 50GB of memory bandwidth. The new MBP3 has 150GB/s memory bandwidth, whereas the MBP02 has 200GB/s. For everyday users who dabble in images and maybe some short videos, this plays into that decision over the additional 2k upcharge to see 300/400 GB speed in the Max. So if you have a MBP 02 or even M1 you may want to wait until the next intderation for basic users.

H.264 and the likes are done by asic in this chip and he asic is the same for all currently existing M cpus, but max has two and ultra has 4
i have the macbook pro m1. I just plan to use it until it breaks. These things are far too expensive to replace on a regular basis.

I'm on a 2018 macbook pro, and I'm waiting for an M1 macbook model to be cheap, or a mac mini/studio to become cheaper (with 16 GB of ram)
If you look at the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro, even with 3nm and the new redesign, the chip draws a lot of power making the efficiency not that much better or possibly even worse than the A16/A15, the M3 chip is based on the A17 Pro while the M2 Pro is based on the A15 from the iPhone 13 Pro. The M3 should have been a lot more efficient and shouldn’t have similar battery life to a higher power older chip (M2 Pro) while having similar size batteries!
Please could you do a music production benchmark in Logic Pro / Ableton Live between the two devices? I've seen some users post a test involving Serum / Diva.

@@DayoAworunse The m2 pro is like 70 dollars more but it’s worth it since it has twice the memory bandwidth at 200 which is important since I am doing video editing. Anyways thanks for your help it really helped me make my decision.

14 inch MBP M3 Pro vs. Refurbished 16 inch MBP M2 Pro
I have hard time to decide between brand new MacBook Pro M3 Pro 14 inch with 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD or Refurbished MacBook Pro M2 Pro 16 inch with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD.
Currently I am using MacBook Pro 16 inch late 2019 on Intel i9 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. So, I don’t have any issue with portability at all.
The indecisive comes from the M2 Pro vs M3 chip and RAM difference between those 2 machines (36GB RAM on M3 Pro vs 32GB RAM on M2 Pro)
Which one do you think has better value and better investment protection between brand new MacBook Pro M3 Pro 14 inch with 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD and Refurbished MacBook Pro M2 Pro 16 inch with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD? I am not video editor or digital content creator or any graphic intensive users here.

That's because you need to actually use the MacBook devices for the tasks that are intended from the target audience. That includes intensive graphical/3D work, video and image editing, and rendering tasks. You'll notice that most of the MacBook's upgrade is not linked whatsoever to what generation of the M-series chip you have but rather stuff like memory bandwidth and the number of performance and efficiency cores in the CPU and GPU. If all you do is web browsing, office work, or media consumption, you can manage with a low end processors and that extra power won't do anything.

I still think m1 air for 65%, then m2 air for 10%, then m3 base for 10%, then m2 pro for 10%, then m3 pro for 4% then m1/2/3 max for the remaining 1% who actually see real world slowdowns without the GPUs.
This is very true. M1 is great for a lot of people and will be in a future video in my holistic buying guide. This is more for people shopping in the same price point between which one they should get of a used m2 pro or m3.
finally someone who gets it! I've seen soooo many tech youtubers talk themselves in knots about the base m3 (and the 13" pro) on the mystery of "who is this foooor?" when it's obviously for targeted at businesses- oh I'm sure apple doesn't mind others buying it too, of course.
Yeah the m3 offers more than windows laptops that businesses buy in bulk at the same if not cheaper. Buying in bulk I'm sure they get some discount maybe like 3-5%, but that's still something

Apple has created an interesting problem for itself. M3 laptops are great. But various new and refurbished M2 laptops are tremendous values that will last a long time and get updates. There is something for anyone who wants a MacBook. If you are on a tight budget, I would even say look for the best M1 or M2 machine in your preferred price range.
That's because you haven't used an M3, I've used an M1 13" MBP and it's night and day, the only thing I would recommend is upgrade to 16gb RAM on the M3 it really unlocks the performance in everything

Perfect comparison since the price point is very similar. Several other TH-camrs did the exact same comparison.
