"We had to push ourselves to create a format that tells the story of games within games themselves," says our studio head, Mike Mika. The result is the Gold Master Series of interactive documentaries, led by The Making of Karateka. It's the next evolution in our 30-year journey to bring games the respect they deserve and preserve gaming history through the medium of games themselves. I nominate Digital Eclipse for official curator of all things related to classic gaming history.

A calendar of upcoming Gold Master Series games would be interesting, and we could vote on the next game.

We'll be revealing more details on the future of the series soon, but honestly, public voting not a feasbile or reaslitic way to create projects like these. They are individually crafted and sorting out the IPs is often a nightmare. We do keep a list of what fans request, so we can approach those IP holders, but often times they are simply not interested in doing what we're proposing, or might have alternate plans already in motion. So it's good to know what fans are most excited to play, but it would offer false hope to suggest that fan "votes" are anything more than suggestions -- which we already take and apply whenever we can.

@@DigitalEclipsebeen playing this the last day or two now that it's out, I keep seeing references to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? series, how impossible is it to port/document those games? Doesn't Disney partially own that because of the TV show? It made me wonder that seeing that in the game, I remember Where in Space is Carmen Sandiego on Macintosh in my elementary school.

@@DigitalEclipsebtw The Making of Karateka is Excellent, love your Karateka Remastered version, Deathbounce Remastered was awesome, Jordan sure was a pioneer. Its barely mentioned but Prince of Persia alone created it's own genre of video games.

@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone A version of Carmen Sandiego that included the weird state variants would be insane. I want to play Where in North Dakota is Carmen Sandiego again. That and Number Munchers, Sticky Bear Bop, Mixed Up Mother Goose, Subnodule, and Lucas Arts Night Shift.
Subnodule is a John Romero made game. Along with Pyramids of Egypt. I would love a Gold Series that was just: "The Early Works of John Romero." Similar to the releases that Palm Pictures did for people like Spike Jonze or Criterion did for people like Marlon Riggs.

I heard you guys doing this series from The Nextlander Podcast. Atari 50 was aces! You guys have the winning formula now. Make hundreds of these. Well done!

This is groundbreaking stuff, honestly. This format's going to be the new benchmark for releasing classic games. The new gold (master) standard.

Karateka is an awesome start. I was completely blown away when I first saw it, and jealous of my Apple II friend. I've got it on my wishlist. Looking forward to watching it.
The Gold Master Series is a very cool idea. I'm sure whatever they decide to cover next will be great, but I hope to see stuff like Ultima, Out of this World, Kings Quest, and the old LucasArts games someday.

This is SO important and rad that you are doing this and doing it right. Loved Atari 50th and even though this game is just a bit before my time, I can’t wait to learn, watch, peruse and play.😅

Continuing the idea you started with Atari 50 is brilliant, but these titles are more than just game releases. What you're doing is important and needs to be able to be passed on in the future. To that end, hopefully you're able to do physical releases even though the scope of a singular game is how you're moving forward. If not, hopefully the ability to bundle these interactive docs into a release down the road will be possible.
