  • Girsan is making good quality firearms but what I love best is they are bring back older, discontinued classic designs. The Beretta Model 86 tip up barrel is expensive and hard to find, so this is great to see. A big thanks to Jon G for the loaner! #BerettaTipUpBarrel #GirsanMC14T #380acp

    One thing people tend to not mention about tip up barrels is they not only make it easier to load a round in the chamber but they also make easier and safer to REMOVE a round from the chamber. Some pistols don't take well to having a live round racked out of the chamber.

      There are a couple of companies making affordable remakes, the originals are still better. Plenty of junk pistols coming out of there too. Then there is a half dozen companies rolling out absolute garbage shotguns, one maybe two making passable affordable shotguns and one shotgun company making actually good stuff. The only thing that appears to be exceptional is the Mete MC9, lets see if it stands the test of time.

    Hi Scootch00, Great Review as always. I bought one of these cool little pistols a few weeks ago, because I'm also a lover of the Beretta flip up barrel pistols. Here are some things I discovered....
    Yes you can use your Beretta 84 13-round magazines in this pistol. I used them and the pistol ran flawlessly.
    I'm a gunsmith, and I was able to easily remove the front barrel pin and break down the firearm for cleaning and lubrication. It's not that hard, and I would recomend a few things... Have a quality set of firearm punches and pin starter punches. The big takeaway from tearing the pistol down is to put some masking tape or blue painters tape around the area where you will remove the pin. You don't want to rub the frame and get an idiot mark on it from the pin or the punch as your are driving it in or out.
    Overall, I really like the pistol. Hope this helps a few people.

    Every time I found a Beretta Model 86, it was way out of my price range. I just found and bought a Girsan MC14T very affordably, thanks mostly to your reviews! Many thanks! An Extractor is incompatible with the tip-up feature on any of the tip-up barrel types, as it would be engaged when the bolt is in-battery, and you wouldn't be able to tip up the barrel without damaging it, or the cartridge rim.

  • @Ed-ig7fj
    @Ed-ig7fj ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Great review, Sootch. One thing I would stress with these Beretta-style tip-up barreled guns is that racking the slide will NOT clear a round from the chamber. I found this out with a tiny .25 I bought decades ago. Most of us old timers are programmed to clear an automatic by dropping the mag and racking the slide to eject the round in the barrel. It doesn't work here, and you could have a tragic accident if you don't tip the barrel up and check. That being said, I now want one! --Old Guy

The one thing I’m concerned about is the inability to get in there and clean those rails and other areas out good after a while who knows if you’re gonna start having malfunctions because it gets so dirty. Isn't a real issue for 380 unless you've put a lot of rounds through the gun without cleaning the barrel. I like the Turks bring back some of the older guns. I would love to see Turkey make the Ruger old P series pistols with quality sights. P89, P90, P45. Those were bulky, but at the time, pretty good guns. I got rid of my P45 but I still have a P89. I shoot it quite a bit. Fun and accurate.

    I just thought of how you make it in 9mm, a small roller delay lock system ala the H&K roller lock system, the Walther system used in the 92 won't work for a tipping barrel.

    It's a shame they make all these promotional videos on EAA for the release of these new pistols and then they don't make enough or they are allocated whatever that means. I just tried ordering one a couple weeks ago at two different FFLs and both we're unavailable.

    The Beretta 86 didn’t have an extractor either. The reason being is the tilt up barrel design. That’s also why the other Beretta tip ups don’t have one. But great video. I hope to add one of these to my collection of 80 series.

    • @sae1095hc
      @sae1095hc ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I don't think it would be easy to have an extractor in the tip-up barrel models.
      It's a safety issue, in that racking the slide doesn't guarantee an empty chamber. I'd hope the manual would emphasize this!

    • @adrianotero7963

      Tip up barrels usually do not have extractors........but the downside to this model is that the slide cannot be removed.....

    An external extractor would not be of any use. The barrel is pinned to the front of the frame, so the barrel does not recoil any to impart rearward movement to the slide to enable a slide-mounted extractor to remove a casing from the barrel. All of the slide's rearward movement is derived from a casing moving backwards out of the barrel.

    Great video as always Sootch!! This Gun is on the cover of Guns and Ammo and the featured firearm! It seems like this gun is also a mix of the 92FS compact with the rail because I own one besides an M-9 , 92FS, 84FS and a Bobcat . I'm not a big fan of Turkish gun's especially 1911's when you can buy American for a few dollars more 🤣.. but this gun is cool and unique!!
    One thing you didn't point out is Girsan ships the gun with an extended mag that has an external notch for a round on the side for a quick reload if needed.

    In any blowback .380 you have to hold tight onto the gun it is imperative that it have a solid backstop to push against. I have carried a Walther PPKs for many years. Whenever one of my friends limp wrist my gun it jams. It never does that to me. I just tell them to use their man hands and hold on. Any malfunctions that this gun is having can probably be attributed to the same thing.

    Professional analysis is always important. This gun might have been the most accurate gun on the market. You would simply have to add a small soloist at the end of the barrel to the rear sight and place it on top of the aforementioned soloist, in such a way that the sights are fixed on the barrel. It would be necessary to put a polygonal barrel and a nail extractor is also essential. Without a doubt the remarkable design of the tilting gun could have easily been perfected and made perfect. It is understood that the wonderful Beretta gunsmiths were not supported enough by the Engineers, otherwise we would already have it available. The other modification must come to the 380 caliber that has to go to 9x18 of German origin and perfect the loads, to obtain an ideal projectile in terms of pressure, recoil and tuning in pocket weapons for the 21st century.-

    I am impressed with the Turkish craftsmanship! During the pandemic I purchased a couple of Turkish pellet Rifles! We set up a range in the back yard and we could shoot as much as we liked. The Turks are going to be a major manufacturing country if they can quit all the fighting over there! I’m glad the U.S. is out of there. All we ever did was poke the bear and cause trouble!

    Lucked up on one of the surplus beretta 81s(under $200.didn’t pay for handpicked option & still one with a beautiful finish)from classic firearms.they were carried in a flap holster(whole gun was well protected through the years)think.?.Appears to be a carried a lot,shot very little.Grips looked new but sooo glad I tried the thin checkered grips from LOK (grip measurements in description on LOK website didn’t seem like a lot of difference,but in the hand..a lot thinner feel & just better all around.original grips in such good condition & LOKs cost %30> of the gun…but worth it. This gun looks pretty nice & love the 13+1 rds.Going to have to keep & eye out for one.agree that it would be better with extractor but not a deal breaker.hopefully it doesn’t have a goofball magazine disconnect.Could do without unnecessary directions to read a manual engraved on any gun!If gun manufacturers feel the need or must (for legal/import restrictions)put a warning of some sort on a gun.?.a sticker or printed (removable paint or something)would be appreciated.Bottom line,can deal with the gun as is.They have some pretty sweet high value 1911s I’m eyeballing already. The Turks are doing a good job & getting their part of the American gun market while the getting is good..Smart..Thx for showing us the gun Mr.S.Take care over there on the W side of the mighty PD..

    The model you shot here is maybe / likely not 3.81" barrel as some sites say, but 4.5". Even when you put it next to the 80x which is 3.9" barrel you can see the difference. I wonder if it is a typo on the Girsan site? I am bit confused about it too, so I am saying likely. My eyes say this is definitely a longer barrel. The 86 was a larger barrel. And seeing it next to other guns indicate it too. Yet some sites quote it as 3.81". Maybe there are two models?

  • @DanielSnyder-bz8kp

    Girsan has a ported barrel version of this gun called the "Lady" for less muzzle rise and faster follow up shots. It has gold accents too for not too much more money. I'd like to see a review of that gun and how well the ported barrel reduces the recoil. Also in the video you said that the barrel was 3.81", but beretta says that the 86 is 4.375 and Girsan says 4.5". That is the longest barrel .380 that i've ever heard of, and .380 is one of my favorite calibers. I wonder how much extra velocity you get and more reliable expansion from hollow point ammo.
