    Congratulations ! 🎉 She looks even more beautiful on the water. Until the side by side with the Rose I hadn’t really appreciated how much smaller Mini D is. During the build it came off almost just a spacious. A tribute to the design. Long may she sail 👍

      Dianne kept telling me that MiniD was the same size as our Rose as she took up so much room in the shop! She was also surprised to see here up against DR and the size comparison! MiniD offers alot for here size! She temps me to downsize but Dianne loves our D Rose!!! AllthebestRoy

      @@roydesignedthat Your view may shift one way or the other after the first good outing. The difference in fuel consumption might become the bigger factor though. A sippy 4hp 4 stroke might be quite frugal and give you more time on the water per gallon of gas especially once you get the motors trim and prop dialed in.
      Best!

    • @roydesignedthat
      @roydesignedthat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @neilfromclearwaterfl81 I agree Neil! As a point of interest, it is good to test the 9.9hp as well! It may not be bad on fuel as I run her at 6mph and it would manage this with little fuss! BestRoy

    • @neilfromclearwaterfl81
      @neilfromclearwaterfl81 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@roydesignedthat Yes the 9.9 would not be running as close to MAX and likely closerto its economy sweet spot if you resisted opening the throttle up. When I upgraded from a 150cc motorbike to a 250cc my fuel economy on 35 to 45 mph roads went from 45/50 MPG to 65/75 MPG since intake vacuum stayed higher and more steady with the 250cc engine at those speeds.
      You can also do it by adjusting engine trim and prop pitch to get the 4 HP engine into its sweet spot at 6 MPH.
      Best!

      Thanks Zack! I'm liking as well! I'm looking at uping the motor size to a 9.9hp 2 cylinder I have. It is a 4 stroke and would be quieter! I saw MiniD can handle the extra weight, no problem and I need not run it hard, so it will still sip gas running with lower revs! AllthebestRoy

    Hold on a second - I'll just get myself a beer and watch it again from the beginning. What a beautifull boat you created there, Roy. Huge respect!
    Great choice having that roof overhang design - definitely superior compared to DR. Whatching her move with that 4 hp, I believe an electric outboard should perform well too.
    Thank you for taking us on this build journey.

    • @roydesignedthat
      @roydesignedthat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Max! With MiniD she is not close to road width max and the overhang was an option that I would have don on our DIANNE'S ROSE but some highway width limits are 8ft, Most are 8 ft 6in but I;m glad I stayed with 8ft as we trailered our Rose down to Texas and construction lanes, beside large trucks was a wee bit stressing! The overhang does add charm and practicality on MiniD! You'll howl as I just now mocked up a flower box for her! I'm all in n this design! Lol! AllthebestRoy

    I'd say that she exceeds expectations by an immense order of magnitude!
    She's pretty, practical and purposeful, too!
    For winter water wanderings may I suggest an American made Fatsco Pet Stove, which is extremely compact at 9.5 inches high, 6 inches in diameter and has an 8.5 inch lantern base.
    Burning charcoal briquettes, wood or cut up fire logs, using a 3 inch diameter stovepipe, they heat up beautifully and have a lovely ambience.
    Made in America for over a century, from cast iron and marine grade stainless steel, they're only about two hundred and thirty dollars.
    I don't have any connection to them other than as a happy customer. I bought myself one over a decade ago and imported it into the UK.
    They're very popular with liveaboard winter boaters for their dry heat.
    Its lovely to see her on the water, and you should be hugely proud of yourself because she's gorgeous.
    Looking forward to seeing the plans, and if I'd be able to scale down the beam to 6' 10" so she can fit on the UK canal networks which are limited to a six feet ten inch width.
    That's why they're called Narrowboats...

      @felixcat9318 thank you Fellix! I was nervous until I saw her running on her lines and over the next few days we had her loaded up with four large guys and still had room for one more. She handles weight so well that I will next season try testing my old 1996 9.9hp 4stroke. The noise of the 4hp single cylinder was bearable but my guests would have liked to carry on a conversation in normal tones! Lol! More to come! AllthebestRoy

      Re woodstove, we have a Cubic Mini aboard our DIANNE'S ROSE Tiny Houseboat and love it! I just bought a heater attachement for my alcohol cook stove for MiniD! I'll try that on my next trip. With a cast iron frypan on top it holds good heat but even with our wood stove, we don't burn when sleeping! I winter camp, so have warm sleeping gear to bundle up until morning! You were wondering about width, MiniD is in fact perfect size for the canals as she is only 6ft 4in wide (6in with rub rails)! Length is 13ft 6in but add another 6in for the overhung helm and bow posts, so you can call her 14ft long. Interior is 5 ft 2 1/2in clear but hatches can be propped open for 6ft 6in clear where needed and with the lexan clear panels in place, she is rain proof as well! Then you can stand full height in the galley/ head area and by the enterance! I have now added oars mounted on the sides between the rub rails and rowing can work by opening the side's second window to row from inside! More to come Felex! AllthebestRoy

      Oh you are so into my brain, Koda!!! I now have 9ft Ash oars mounted on the outside of the hull, which fitted nicely between the two rub rails. These oars would make a good mast and top yard for a square sail! When using MiniD as a camper, I plan on having a tarp awning that can clip under the roof overhang, where I'll add hooks! This same tarp can double as the sail for mostly down wind use. This is why I like to build and keep my designs for awhile, to be able to advance ideas like you mention! Being able to sail, offers a valuable back up if a motor quits, you are short on fuel, etc.! I will never design a boat that can't be rowed for the same reasons! AllthebestRoy
