The gentlemen's are actually very conveniently hovering above the high commission's part that actually reduces consumption because smaller towns have low purchasing power and small and unstable supply chain of their own.
    ONDC actually
    1. empowers supplyers with lowest commisions
    2. Gives them ability to make small and robust supply chains and delivery systems of their own because of no third party high commisions.
    3. Digitising their branding at lowest cost
    4. Local markets become competitive
    5. Brings the informal economy into digital infrastructure adding to more transperancy, Trust and increased taxable incomes.
    6. improve digital literacy formally.
    7. Access to credits digitally
    8. Sharing customer details, which zomato and swiggy kept to themselves , which stopped local vendors from self sufficiently managing customer aquisition.
    9. Generate local employment and innovation catering to local markets.
    10. Ultimately increasing competitiveness among players and thus increasing bargaining power to the consumers .

Very aptly mentioned the highlights about ONDC.
I think, delivery systems of their own would be the only differentiator here for ppl coming from diff. parts of INDIA.
ONDC stake holders should do smthing parallel, related to bringing gud delivery infra. for small places, along side growing ONDC.

I think ONDC is just targetting the exhorbitant commissions ecommerce companies take to provide a platform for merchants to sell their goods. Amazon charges 18-40%, food delivery guys charge similarly etc. ONDC is less about same product being visible on all platforms and More about providing a platform for every vendor without suffocating them with platform commissions.

Exactly, after ONDC, seller will have to find new methods to increase the consumption.
Just like china, where everything is available everywhere, every seller is online, India will do the same, and to increase consumption, one will have to come up with more innovative ideas, therefore leading to holistic growth of the economy and country

My guess is that it might result in a ''first mover advantage'' situation.
The early adapters to this online-presence platform will be more visible to their potential customers; and build a strong customer base, compared to those who adapt late.
Maybe that will create the "edge" for anyone wishing to benefit from this new technology.

  • @rajatjain7894
    @rajatjain7894 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I agree with Kishore that it may not lead to an immediate increase in net consumption but what he doesn't talk about is the increase in competitiveness in the market. Let's say (keeping up with the soap example) there is a soap company which is making a better soap (say it results in 20% more softer skin) but due to lack of visibility they are selling much less than the soaps produced by large fmcg companies with huge distribution networks. But what if this soap is visible on every ecommerce website and some youtuber reviews it on YT and people start noticing it. So, just by increasing the products visibility and reducing the cost of logistics, the sales of that soap startup may skyrocket which may compel the likes of HUL to come out with a better product.
So, in the end the customer wins.

  • @pviveknair
    @pviveknair ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nikhil is asking the question from the wrong perspective. ONDC like the UPI is for the benifit of the customers and not the benifit of the sellers.
Just like how UPI did not provide any additional benifit other than an additional medium of payment processing for the Banks but it simplified the payment processing options for the customers, ONDC will give buyers a single location to search for products from different market places. They dont need to go to different sites, compare prices and look for similar features with lowerst prices. The customers can do all that on ONDC.
Sellers on the other hand will force their market places to get enrolled with ONDC as that will allow their products to be available to more buyers. Getting enrolled with ONDC for Market Places like Amazon & Flipkart would be like getting advertisement services with Google, Microsoft, Facebook or Yahoo. They only need to share small commission on the products sold through ONDC.

As I understand when ONDC (open network digital commerce) is a platform where any seller can register himself on this platform and delivery services will be managed by the seller it's own at initial. When any big platform will join ONDC then before registered products of seller will also reflect on that E-Commerce site (without sharing profit to that E-Commerce platform).

But you can own the logistics/fulfillment and you can collect commissions etc. for traffic going through your app and you can differentiate yourself as a *trusted* fulfillment provider. It also brings customers to your ecosystem if you’re say Amazon because they really make their money off of more prime customers. If you can free up the Kirana store from
Having to develop and manage an app and digital platform but still get him online then isn’t this a huge win for them and the flipkarts and amazons of the world ? Though everyone may offer the same bar of soap some sellers may have a cash crunch at a certain time of the week/month and may offer deep discounts to clear inventory and free up cash. The customer wins in the end. What am I missing ?

This is already proving to be a bad idea as I've seen various sellers charging 50rs+ delivery for a 1-2km distance, them feeling the need to profit from that process too.
And there are going to be many problems with the end delivered product, quality issues, etc and also many bad actors and without anyone overlooking the quality in place, it is just going to be a bad experience.

No big players have the incentives to create somthing on ONDC. Its an ambitious project like UPI. In UPI government had controls on Government banks and government mandated all goverment banks to open bank accounts for free for zero balance even for poor anf marginalized, second asked all government banks to be IMPS interoperable and then built the tech stack of UPI over it. Private banks jumped in because they were losing on the big game.
In ONDC, all big players are privately owned and they themselves becomes the buyer and themselves become the seller. What they are technically doing is they are still creating a closed platform over ONDC network. Because democratizing the entire value chain makes them not "the player" anymore. Eg meesho makes money from commissions over each sales but in ONDC once can't charge commissions, because then people will find other platforms where they charge less commission and the product will display on meesho for buyers to buy. Sames goes for logistics too.
No player has incentives to make ONDC a success.

ONDC will be a boon for Delivery businesses 😁
    # Its just a place where a Merchant can upload all his products...All Apps connected to ONDC will automatically update his product list..
    # All orders he received on that day will be visible for him on ONDC itself....no ned to open every app...
    # If he changes price of his product...it will immediately reflected in all apps linked to ONDC...

As of now, the Apps are managing transactions manually. Actually, this is the issue with a few buyer apps. They have not created a payment settlement service post cancelation period. Thus, this issue arises.
Ondc will soon announce that until the time payment settlement is not automated, settlement of the money must be after the cancelation period.

Bhai user ko product se Matlab hai na. Your brand they don't care about. They just might care about the brand of the product. With ONDC the trust of the government brand comes in thus making your brand equity null and void. Y'all are anyways competing on discounting, this is only gonna make it fiercer between each of you.
